Find out about kidney disease research

PATIENTS with chronic kidney disease and their carers are invited to an event on research into the condition. The Healthy Kidneys, Healthy Lives event takes place at The Whites Hotel, Reebok Stadium, Bolton, on Sunday, December 8, from 11am to 3pm and includes lunch. Visitors can hear about the research being carried out at Salford Royal Hospital and learn from other patients what it is like to be involved in studies. The event is free to attend and patients are asked to register at gmkin.org.uk/ hkhl/ to help with catering. Professor Philip Kalra, of the renal department at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, said: We can make a big difference to patients. Survival rates and patients quality of life are much better if chronic kidney disease is spotted early and treated early. Its really important that we have the best possible knowledge of the disease and continue to work on improving treatments so that we can avoid some of the terrible effects that can happen.
