Madiba statues

Former president Nelson Mandela is a global icon, depicted in statues in cities all across the world

1 A bronze statue unveiledin Worcester on July 18, 2012.

2 To mark his 94th birthday, German jewellery artist Tom Rucker created a sculpture of Mandela using platinum wire. The sculpture was unveiled by Helen Zille at the Cape Town International Conference Centre.

15 A sculpture built near Howick in KZN, to commemorate 50 years since Mandelas arrest here. It consists of 50 steel posts, seemingly randomly placed, but from a distance they reect Mandelas face. It was designed by South African artist Marcho Cianfanelli.

21 Former Archbishop Emeritus and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Desmond Tutu, unveiled a Mandela statue in the Hague on September 25, 2012. 22 Left: On 29 August 2007, this statue was placed in Parliament Square in London. The campaign to erect the statue was started in 2000 by the late Donald Woods, a South African journalist.
