Vincent Robles Iowa State University Ames, Iowa 50010 SUBJECT: Usability test report Introduction Our project requires that our audience clearly comprehend the information we provide in our pamphlet on electronic ignition systems. In order to test this comprehension, we had some of our fellow students read the information and complete a brief questionnaire afterwards. We assessed their answers and any additional feedback they provided to us to determine if any particular section of our pamphlet needed changes or clarification. Any requisite adjustments found would then be applied to our final product. Methods For our usability test, we asked six of our roommates to complete our questionnaire. We had each subject read the information, complete the questionnaire, and attempt to navigate through the pamphlet to find the correct answers. Our questionnaire consists of six questions, see attached. Each of the questions is specific to some sort of process within the system. If the subjects were able to respond with the correct answer using the pamphlet we provided, this would then demonstrate retention. Results Each roommate was able to successfully complete the questionnaire with the correct answers. However, one test subject suggested that we could number each of the processes and then place a corresponding number on the diagram relating to what was going on. With a 100% success rate for our questionnaire, we decided that the audience had a decent retention of the information contained in the pamphlet. Discussion With the feedback we received from our test subjects and the class, we have some ideas for ways in which to improve our technical description. We had originally

decided not to number the diagram and processes as the diagram was supposed to be used for looking at the locations of the parts involved. However, after we presented to the class, we felt that we should incorporate some sort of numbering or arrows in the diagram to show where the steps take place. Our six original test subjects were helpful, but we also decided to include the class as test subjects as well. With this in mind, by judging the reaction from you and the class, we decided to revise this project along the lines suggested, as we were initially unsure whether or not to number the diagram after only one test subject suggested it. This will hopefully allow for a more logical flow of information in the pamphlet and therefore greater understanding from the audience. Overall, our original test subjects found the organization of the pamphlet to be adequate for their needs and had no problems answering the questions we asked.
