English language requirements for programmes in the College, with conditions and exemptions.

The English language qualifications we accept are listed below. If you have taken or plan to take an English language test that does not appear on our list, please contact the relevant College Admissions Office to check if we will accept it. Minimum test scores for entry in 2013

US qualifications
Students from Indonesia applying with US qualifications will be required to reach the same levels as American applicants. American applicants must have, or expect to obtain, certain US qualifications. Our requirements for students with US qualifications vary by degree programme. All subjects except Medicine & Veterinary Medicine


All subjects in the College of Humanities and Social Science and the College of Science and Engineering require completion of the High School Diploma, plus one of the following as a minimum requirement.

A successful completion of one year of University in the USA

OR
SAT score of 1800 (600 minimum in Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) plus two APs at Grade 4;

OR

SAT score of 1800 (600 minimum in Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) plus two SAT Subject tests with 650 minimum

OR

ACT Composite score of 27 minimum plus two SAT Subject tests with 650 minimum;

OR
ACT Composite score of 27 minimum plus two APs at Grade 4;

OR
Three APs at Grade 4 minimum;

A combination of AP and SAT subject tests are acceptable provided they are in different subjects, i.e. AP French and SATS Physics is acceptable as two qualifications but AP French and SATS French is only considered once. Entry to some degree programmes requires SAT subject tests or APs in specific subjects. These subject requirements are listed in the undergraduate prospectus. If you are unsure of the subject requirements for your chosen degree programme please contact the relevant college admissions office.

Further detailed entry requirements for applicants to the College of Humanities & Social Science

Veterinary Medicine
US candidates must normally have either studied APs, the International Baccalaurate (IB) or A level examinations. 3 APs all at 4 or above in Chemistry, Biology and either Maths/Physics would be required. If Physics has not been studied as part of the AP examinations, candidates must also provide evidence of a qualification at a minimum of SQA Standard Grade 2 or GCSE Grade B or equivalent in this subject. All applicants to Veterinary Medicine will be expected to have relevant practical experience of handling animals.

Medicine
Entry directly from high school will not normally be considered.

Graduate entry to Medicine and Veterinary Medicine

For entry to most postgraduate taught or research degrees, the minimum requirement for students from the USA is an undergraduate degree from a recognised university or college with a minimum 3.25 GPA.

Medicine (MBChB)
Applications for graduate entry to the MBChB will be considered for the 5-year programme (A100) with:

Pass in a 4-year undergraduate degree with a science major and a GPA of 3.4 or better

plus, MCAT score of at least:


Verbal 9 Biological Sciences 10 Physical Sciences 10 Writing Letter M

Veterinary Medicine

a minimum of at least two years of a pre-veterinary or science course at College a minimum of one year (two semesters or three terms) in Chemistry additional courses in Biology, Physics and/or Mathematics a minimum grade point average of 3.4, with more than 3.0 in science courses which have been completed

College leavers must apply through the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) not through the UCAS application system. Contact VMCAS directly to apply.

Indonesian qualifications
Students who have completed the Surat Tanda Tamat Belajar Sekolah Menengah Umum Tingkat Atas (STTB - SMA) are required to undertake further study as this qualification does not meet our minimum entry requirements.

Applicants with qualifications other than those listed above will usually be required to complete a Foundation Year before entering the University.
