Windows Shortcut Commands

This document outlines Windows keyboard shortcuts. The list is based on information available through the MSDN website http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126449.

Table 1: Windows system key combinations F1 CTRL-ESC ALT-TAB ALT-F4 SHIFT-DELETE c-L Help. Open Start menu. Switch between open programs. Quit program. Delete item permanently. Lock the computer.

Runs the alternative default command (the second item on the menu. Display properties. Deletes an item immediately without placing it in the Recycle Bin.

If held while inserting a CD-ROM, autorun feature is bypassed. Displays the main windows System menu. Displays the Multiple Document Interface child windows System menu. Switch to the next child window of a Mutliple Document Interface program. Open the menu (c is an underlined character in a menu item). Close the current window. Close the current Multiple Document Interface window. Switch between mutltiple windows in the same program.

Opens the Start menu. Opens the Run dialog box. Minimise all. Undo minimise all. Help. Windows Explorer. Find les or folders. Minimises all open windows and displays the desktop. Find computer. Moves focus from Start, to Quick Launch Toolbar, to the System Tray (use and to move on toolbar and tray). Cycle through taskbar buttons. System Properties dialog box.

Table 10: Dialog box keyboard commands TAB SHIFT-TAB SPACE Move to the next control in the dialog box. Move to the previous control in the dialog box. If the current control is a button, this clicks the button. If the current control is a check box, this toggles the check box. If the current control is an option, this selects the option. Equivalent to clicking the selected button (the button with the outline). Equivalent to clicking the Cancel button. Move to the corresponding item (c is an underlined character in dialog box item).
