Dmitri Mendeleev
Dmitri Mendeleev was a famous chemist. He was born in 1834 and died in 1907. He died at the age 72 of inuenza. He was the youngest of fourteen kids.
Accomplishments
He formed the periodic table of the elements, similar to the one we use today. He also had an element named after him. It was element 101. It is called Mendelevium.
His
While writing his textbook, Principles of Chemistry, he found that if you put the elements in order of atomic mass, their chemical properties had a pattern. This lead to his periodic table, which is the guide line for the current periodic table. His table had blank spaces where he predicted three unknown elements which turned out to be germanium, gallium, and scandium.

Interesting Facts
He is credited for bringing the metric system to Russia. He was the director of Russia's Bureau of Weights and Measures. When he got older, he became known for his large beard and long hair. It was said he would only cut his hair and beard once a year.
Marie Curie
Marie Curie was born November 7, 1867 in Poland and died on July 4, 1934. She passed away from aplastic anemia, which is caused from too much exposure to radiation. Marie Curie was buried with her husband. She was the rst and only woman to be buried in the Panthon in Paris.
Accomplishments
With the help of her husband, Pierre, she discovered polonium, after that she discovered radium. Marie Curie was the rst woman to receive the Noble Prize. In her lifetime she won two Noble Prizes. She was the rst scientist to receive two Noble Prizes. She was also the rst person to win two Nobel Prizes in two different subjects, Chemistry and Physics.
Polonium
With the help of her husband, Pierre, she discovered polonium a new radioactive element. They used the mineral and quickly discovered radium. After the war had ended, Marie raised money to build a hospital and laboratory focusing on radiology. This type of method uses Xrays and radium to treat and cure disease.
Interesting Facts
Marie Curie discovered Polonium, but she also named it. Marie named Polonium after her home country, Poland. She learned that the strength of the radiation depended on the amount of uranium or thorium and had nothing to do with the compound it was mixed in. This was important because it helped kill tumors. She also had an element named after her it was called Curium, element 96, cm.
