Fall Tour
SHOWCASE

SEPTEMBER 11 & 12
NOON - 7 PM

www.UtahDesignersLeague.org
Welcome
As president of the Utah Designer’s League Association, UDLA, I personally welcome you to
our annual Designer Showcase Fall Tour. Our second year promises to be more exciting than
ever. I am confident you will enjoy the tour!

As a reminder, the Designer Showcase Fall Tour is unlike other home tours that feature
builders and suppliers. This home tour specifically showcases the design work of South Davis
County architects, house plan designers, and interior designers. Some of these homes may
have undergone renovation while others are new construction. Either way, all of the homes in
the tour are livable, personal and full of character.

Thank you to all the designers and home owners for their support. We would not be able to
pull this off without you! We are excited to watch the tour grow over the years and we hope
you continue to tell friends and family about this exciting event.

Sincerely,

Robert McArthur, UDLA President

2008-2010 Board Members

From Left to Right: Karen Larkin, Secretary; Jeannette Oakes, President-

his design project never meant to go beyond finding the perfect rug for underneath
the kitchen table. However, as with most home projects, it only takes a small
change to start that chain reaction. In this case, Bob and Kris Gross’ ended up with a major
home overhaul!

Finding the rug was only the beginning. From there, the project expanded with new paint for
the fireplace, the walls and furniture. Following that, the Gross’ decided to update the living
room, dining room, and master bedroom.

With the upstairs practically brand new, the basement was next for a major overhaul. First, the
rather normal design scheme was replaced with a sports bar theme. A total of five televisions
were added: three in the pool room and two in the exercise room. Also in the basement, the
adjacent family and kitchen area completed the interior renovations.

With the interior of this home completely redesigned, the Gross’ felt the outside needed some
changes as well. The exterior of the home was completely redone resulting in entirely different
home!

his inspiring remodel, designed by Robert McArthur, includes his signature

architectural details throughout each of the three levels. Take note of the moldings,
wall and ceiling treatments, custom tile work, exquisite stone and hard surface details which
were all completed by various talented artisans and add appeal to the beautiful design.
Robert’s plan called for the hallways to be widened and a spectacular glass railing to intersect
the home at each stairway.

Relocation of the kitchen allowed space on the main level for a laundry room, butler’s pantry
and mudroom while keeping plenty of family living areas. Eliminating two walls on the upper
level gave a breath of fresh air by turning a dark, narrow hallway into an open, contemporary
living space. The lower level contains a guest bedroom and bath. It also boasts of family fun
space which includes a kitchenette, media room and playhouse.

Outdoor patios, living space, and specially designed fireplace, add serenity to Robert’s
remarkable landscape design. Visit the boutique in “La Casita”. This carriage house has a
mother-in-law apartment above a two car garage and completes the exterior face lift of the
property.

This home is for sale. Contact Donna Pozzuoli with Prudential Utah Real Estate at 801.580.8152.

his timeless masterpiece has undergone several changes, updates and renovations
in the twenty years since Robert McArthur designed this house as his personal
residence. In 1992, Robert built an addition to the house including enlarging the master
bedroom, adding a media room and a third car garage. In 1996, Val and Bunny Holbrook,
owners at time, remodeled the kitchen and laundry room. Eight years later, Jeff and Tonya
Olsen purchased the home. The Olsen’s have renovated the basement, three bathrooms and
the master bedroom.

The design of this home takes advantage of the terrain as it was built into the mountain side.
The mature landscape includes many varieties of flowers, shrubs, ground cover and trees.

Inside the home, architectural details accentuate every room in the house. Leaded glass
transoms, archways and columns, various ceiling heights and multiple french doors make this
house one of a kind. Not to mention Viking appliances, granite countertops, hardwood floors,
natural stone and new carpet throughout.

This home is for sale as are many of the furnishings and accessories. Please contact Jeff or
Tonya at 801.295.3420 for more information.

ll homeowners find features about their existing home they don’t like and after
years of seeing other homes, also find features they would like to have. This
scenario describes Glenn and Karen Larkin’s situation after their kids left the nest. In 2003,
that became the catalyst for building their dream home.

This home, built by Stout Construction, sits in a cul-de-sac and is covered with the thick oak
to help maintain a high level of privacy. The backyard flows into a lush, beautiful ravine.

Inside, the smartly designed 3,600 square foot home includes two kitchens, four baths, and
four bedrooms. It features a walkout basement, two car garage plus a workshop, a large
master bedroom with an adjacent reading area and study. The large master bath includes two
sinks and a whirlpool tub. Karen easily fits her wardrobe and collections in the walk-in closet
with built-in cabinetry.

Entering the home, guests are greeted by a beautiful tray ceiling in the visitor’s area. The
kitchen, which adjoins the great room, includes a large granite island with built-in appliances
surrounded with light hickory wood flooring. Glenn insisted the cathedral ceilings have a
moderate pitch and the basement ceilings set at 8.5 feet to provide an atmosphere of coziness
and comfort. The rear patio is perfect for barbecues and picnics with friends and family.

oble House had just finished Steve and Carol’s other home when they found
this one. They walked in and loved the floorplan and especially the view which
includes an entire vista of the valley.

Taking the colors the Osborne’s loved, Karen incorporated them into their new home.
Interestingly enough, it all came together.

As you enter the home, the high ceilings and beautiful banister immediately catch your eye.
The openess is very welcoming. There is plenty of room for family dinners and get-to-gethers.
Off the entry is the study where Steve spends a lot of his time.

The master bedroom is on the main level. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a study
area which overlooks the living room. The basement includes bedrooms and a playroom for
grandkids, an exercise room, a great room, a kitchen and a theater.

The Osborne family has the perfect home for lots of fun times!

eannette and George are both native Californians. They moved into this rather
plain, all off-white rambler in 2005 and wanted more pizazz. Living in Mexico for
two years and in Rio de Janiero and Sao Paulo for six years has definitely affected Jeannette’s
personal design style and live of impact.

Often these smaller in scale urban residences have to rely on smart design to maximize their
potential. Saturated walls give a contemporary lift. This is a house dancing with color.

Melding antiques, a multi-color palette, and unique accessories compose alluring rooms that
invite friends and family to linger. You will see a lifetime of collecting mainly from auctions,
estate sales, garage sales and anywhere the price was right. Enjoy!

his home uses both modern and tuscan influences to dazzle everyone who enters.
At 8,400 square feet, with five bedrooms and seven baths, the interior is open and
inviting, yet still maintains an intimacy that is hard to achieve in such a large home.

Every room is intricately designed from floor to ceiling and built with the finest craftsmanship.
It boasts a breathtaking master with a large air tub and beautiful glass tile accents. A large
guest suite that shows off the contemporary side of the home with a tone on tone color
scheme and classic lines.

A huge gourmet kitchen with onyx and granite accents and all the appliances a cook could
ask for. The butler kitchen is a caterer’s dream and keeps the mess out of the kitchen while
entertaining. Add to that a huge sport court and super elegant theater and it really makes the
drive to Park City worth it. This home truly is a masterpiece.
