AUXILIARY POWER CONSUMPTION IN THERMAL POWER STATIONS


11.1

The Auxiliary power consumption by the thermal stations during 2000-01 is 9.01% against
8.81% in 1999-00. This comprises the power consumption by all the unit auxiliaries as
well as the common station auxiliaries such as station lighting, air conditioning etc. The
regionwise auxiliary power consumption as percentage of gross generation from 19961997 onwards is shown below:

From the above table it emerges very clearly that auxiliary power consumption is more in NorthEastern. Stationwise auxiliary power consumption details from 1996-97 onwards are given in the annexure

From the above table it emerges that lowest auxiliary power consumption is in 500 MW
Group and highest in the 85/70 MW group.

Agewise no definite trend emerges, as at different times, different capacity group units of
different makes were installed. During 2000-01, 4 years age group units had the minimum
consumption.

The above table clearly indicates that the auxiliary power consumption is higher in
BHEL/ABL make units followed by USSR/USSR make .Lowest Auxiliary Power
