Notes
1. Clearance listed provide proper assemly and hex wrench access to CPS mounting bolts on all disc brake models, as well as the cable anchor bolts on ball bearing mechanical
disc brake models. Tighter clearance may be possible on hydraulic disc brake models. Verifying clearance using 3D sales models on all desired configurations is highly
recommended.
2. All clearance envelopes are measured from the center axis of International Standard mounting bolt holes or the top surface of the direct mount posts and center axis of the
rear CPS mounting bolt.
[3] International Standard Rear:
Sketch applied to the smallest rotor size desired on frame. Clearance is sufficient for all larger rotor and bracket sizes. 140IS rear setup shown in view.
[4] Direct Mount (non step-up compatible):
Sketch applied to the smallest direct mount size desired on frame. Clearance is only sufficient for the desired mounting size. Caliper/seatstay interference may occur if larger
rotor and bracket sizes are used. Direct mount 140 mm shown in view.
[5] Direct Mount (step-up compatible):
Sketch applied to the smallest direct mount size desired on frame. Clearance is sufficient for the desired mounting size and all larger rotor and bracket sizes. Direct mount
140 mm with step-up bracket for 160 mm rotor shown in view.

The use of proper brake fluid is critical. The only brake fluids currently certified by Avid are DOT 4 and DOT 5.1.
OEM shipping condition - brakes are shipped filled and pre-bled, unless otherwise specified.
Hydraulic Line
Aftermarket hydraulic line lengths (one front, one rear): one end is crimped and terminated. Replaceable fittings are installed by the end user into the un-terminated end to allow
custom hydraulic line length.
Banjo bolt torque: 3.5 Nm (40 in-lb)
Calculating Hydraulic Line Lengths:
Front: Stem Length (center-to-center) + Fork Length (center of dropout to top of steerer tube) + 65 mm.
Rear (Top Tube routing): Stem Length (center-to-center) + Top Tube Length (center-to-center) + Seatstay Length (center of seattube to center of dropout) + 65 mm.
Rear (Down Tube routing): Stem Length (center-to-center) + Head Tube Length + Down Tube Length (center-to-center)
+ Chainstay Length (center of seattube to center of dropout) + 65 mm.

Note
For the indicated length, refer to the closest tabled value of X
Banjo Fitting - Compression Nut Fitting: measure from the end of the compression nut to the edge of the banjo crimp ferrule.

Brake pad and cable adjustments: the barrel adjuster on the brake levers should be used to remove any slack in the cables. The brake pad adjusting knobs should be used to
adjust for brake pad wear. This prevents affecting the actuation of the brake lever arm.

Brake levers with a cable pull of more than 32 mm are compatible with vid Single Digit, BB7 MTB, and BB5 MTB mechanical disc brakes, but reduce brake power.
Avid Single Digit, BB7 MTB, and BB5 MTB mechanical disc brakes are compatible with virtually all side-pull specific brake levers. As with any side-pull brake, it is
recommended to use adjustable leverage brake levers when using Single Digit, BB7 MTB, and BB5 MTB mechanical disc brakes.

To prevent the link from contacting the cable anchor arm, and to prevent further
movement, the link must be at least 38 mm from the inside edge of the cable
anchor arm. However, if the link and arms are too far apart, the top of the brake
arms can extend too far from the frame or fork and contact the riders feet.

Caution
Roller-Type Noodles: Do not use roller-type noodles with Avid side-pull brakes. Due to the radius of most
roller-type noodles, and the diameter of the brake cable, there is a safety concern. DO NOT modify or use
the Avid Rollamajig for brake application.
The Avid cable link on all side-pull brakes (except Single Digit Ultimate) is made of stainless steel and is
riveted onto the brake arm. It is specifically designed for use with the Avid noodle.
The Avid noodle on Single Digit 7/SL and Ultimate is specifically designed to allow the installation and
removal from the link without removing the Overcoat boot from the noodle tip.
The noodle is available in the following bends: 90, 110, and 135 degrees.
