FORMWORK
SIGNIFICANCE OF FORMWORK:1) Formwork constitutes 30% of the cost and 60% of the time in concrete construction. 2) Quality of concrete finish and soundness of concrete depends very much on the formwork system 3) Desired shape of concrete is not possible if formwork not done properly. 4) Formwork should be properly designed, fabricated and erected to receive concrete. 5) Accidents happen because of the faulty formwork and scaffolding or staging
SAFETY IN USING FORMWORK:1) Components are light in weight for manual handling. 2) Loose or hanging components are minimal. 3) Appropriate use of tools. 4) Minimum operations are involved in each reuse.
PLANNING
Planning of a CPWD Project mainly includes: Pre-requisites for execution of work. Deposit works Preparation of estimates. Execution of original work. Expenditure on survey, exhibition. Register of buildings. Green building norms. Preparation and accounting of Standard Measurement book. Preparation and passing bills for payment. Documentation of accounts. Plastering
Make sure to wet the surface at which you are applying plaster.
This will ensure better sticking of the plaster. Dont use dry cement over the plastic surface, as there chances of it getting distorted. Use the appropriate amount of water while mixing chemicals or else, there are chances that it wont set up to the brick wall. Wait for 24 hours after plastering the wall and splatter water over it for the next 3-4 days. The splattered water will ensure better set up of the plaster. If you are doing the patch up work in a smaller area, like in a room, make sure to keep newspaper pieces on the ground, so that if the plaster falls over it, it can be removed. Once dried, it is difficult to remove the plaster.

Surface Preparation
before painting.
Check for hand prints, greasy fingerprints, algae as well as dirt and stained Use a scraper, putty knife or scrub brush to remove any dirt, grease, rust, or
flaking.
Fill in the holes, cracks and joints with plaster. Clean and dry the surface. Make sure the area to be painted is well ventilated as well as free of dust. As far as possible, dont paint under much humid conditions.

INTERIOR WALLS
Apply a coat of Wall Primer (water thinnable) on new surfaces. Fill and level the minor undulations of wall by applying putty. In case of major undulations on the wall surface, POP (Plaster of Paris) work needs to be carried out. Ensure that the surface is uniformly smooth by sanding after POP or putty work. One liberal coat of Wall Primer (solvent thinned or water thinned) is
recommended on puttied areas before the application of top coat. The primer should be allowed to dry for 10 - 12 hours. If the primer coat is not applied over the puttied areas, there can be a patchy appearance of the top coat.
Avoid application of putty or filling compound while painting exterior surfaces. Fill up cracks with a 1:3 (by volume) cement and sand mixture. All external drainage pipes must be checked for rusting or leakage. Any faulty plumbing must be rectified Special attention must be given to the roof. Exterior Walls Pre-painting For exterior surfaces it is very important to undertake repairs of any wall imperfections before commencing painting.. Avoid applying putty or filling compound while painting exterior surfaces. Fill up cracks with a 1:3 cement and sand mixture. All external drainage pipes must be checked for rusting or leakage. Any faulty plumbing must be rectified. Special attention must be given to the roof. Check for cracks near the edges and close to the water reservoirs. Proper masonry or waterproofing work on the ceiling will enhance the performance of the painted surfaces.
recommended method. Apply two coats of top coat paint at recommended dilution. You can use Apex Weather Proof Exterior Emulsion or Apex Textured Exterior Emulsion or Ace Exterior Emulsion as top coat. A gap of 4 to 6 hours must be given between two coats. It is recommended that horizontal surfaces like the tops of awnings and Parapets must be given an additional coat for greater protection.
Metal Surfaces
Surface should be free from dirt, dust, grease, rust, moisture etc. The
area which is not to be painted must be covered by a masking tape, paper and/or cloth.
For best results, allow the primer coat to dry for 6 hours and dry
sand with emery paper no. 320 before application of subsequent coat.
Allow the surface to dry overnight after application of primer as above. Apply top coat using the recommended thinner. For best results, apply

CONCLUSION
It was a wonderful learning experience at CPWD office, IP
Construction site.
I was given exposure in almost all the departments at the
site, but I had liked to highlight the areas of safety, quality management, material management and execution.
I hope this experience will surely help me in my future and
