The GE problem statement analysis Here we have an apartment complex with 1) 5 high rise buildings with 10 apartments each

(5 x 10 = 50 households). 2) Shared services and common resources : a) Must have not more than 20% share in the total area. b) Must be accessible to all the apartments in the complex. The design should have: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Rainwater harvesting system. Water purification systems Water reuse Water metering Water discharge

Engineering considerations State of the art structural and power engineering ( support with data) Space matters!!! Energy required to operate (power per unit volume); limiting additional energy required to 10% of the normal energy consumption of the household.

Financial considerations Low cost and maintenance Capital expenditure over the making of the system Annual consumption and annual payments for it ( operating expenditure)

My view of the problem: 1. What we have to design is a complex with Autonoumous buildings considering the favourability of a person to dwell in it. Remember we have to design something which is supposed to be the future so the first question for us is: are we going to live in such a house which has such feature? Will it suit me? Wont i have to sacrifice my space? 2. Remember comfort is always a priority when we are designing a space like this. 3. The technical aspects can be considered with googling on the internet about the new easy to use or artificial pumps and containers. Also the containers should be kept either underground or on an elevated aquarium like tank which can be made of either plastic or any new technology.

RAINWATER HARVESTING
Roof water needs treatment: mercury; dust; coal; bird faeces. Used for secondary purpose such as toilets, washing vehicles, washing clothes etc. Use of rainwater harvesting tanks Excess of rainwater can be used to fill aquifers by groundwater recharge.( for this evaporation, evapotranspiration(ET and Potential ET) and infiltration are required to be calculated). Rainwater harvesting in the urban area needs the study of the geophysical analysis of any aquifer present inside the earth below the complex and looking for a proper catchment system with reference to the aquifers catchment area. We should also look forward for the other possibilities of an artificial installation even underground.

WHITE/GREY/BLACK WATER
White water: fast speedy water; generally created turbulence instead of laminar flow; gradient , constriction and obstruction are considered in the topography; geophysics may be involved; Grey water: This basically is the used household water. It contains no human faeces. Black water: contains human faeces.

GREY WATER TREATMENT

Use of sump, greywater pressurization pump and secondary plumbing. Designing waterless urinals and compositing toilets( master make-yourself designs are also available) Sono-arsenic filter for water treatment if a well is dug. Reverse osmosis and chlorination are the traditional methods for roof water. Use of a solar still. Use of multiple effect humidifications. Atmospheric water generator in humid areas. We can consider a green roof idea.

WATER METERING
The water meter for the above can be Use of plastic, bronze or brass displacement water meters can be preferred. To improve accuracy multi-jet water meters can be utilized.
