Refra in 후렴:
Silver threads and golden needles
cannot mend this heart of mine.
And I dare not down my sorrow
in the warm glow of your wine.
You can't by my love with money
for I never was that kind.
Silver threads and golden needles
cannot mend this heart of mine.

Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine.
And I dare not drown my sorrow in the warm glow of your wine.
You can't buy my love with money 'cause I never was that kind.
Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine.
Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine.

Refra in: Green, green; it's green they say, on the far side of the hill.
Green, green; I'm going away to where the grass is greener still.

Refra in:
And some say love is holding on
and some say letting go.
And some say love is everything.
Some say they don't know.
Perhaps love is like the ocean:
full of conflict, full of pain;
like a fire when it's cold outside,
thunder when it rains.
If I should live forever,
and all my dreams come true,
my memories of love will be of you.

She stepped away from me and she went thro‘ the fair.
And fondly I watched her move here and move there.

This song is an example of the use of a traditional folk tune ("Red River Valley") in a later
setting. Here, it's used by the Americans who formed the American battalion of volunteers
who fought on the Republican (socialist) side of the Spanish Civil War (1936-'39) against the
Nationalist (fascist) rebellion in 1937 and '38. This recording was made in 1940 by Pete
Seeger, Tom Glazer, Baldwin Hawes, and Bess Hawes.

’by felling and
