1 About This Manual

2 INSTALLATION

2 Installation
The program files are delivered in zip format and shall be unzipped during the installation process. Therefore, in order for the programs to be run on the computer, you must first run the setup program. This chapter covers the following procedures: Single-User Installation: This is used when the Single-User version of the program has been purchased and shall be installed on a single PC where no programs or databases will be shared with other users. Installation on a Server: This is used when the networking version of the program has been purchased and shall be installed on a server where programs and databases will be shared with other users. Installation on a Workstation: This is used when the networking version of the program has been purchased and it has been previously installed on a server. This installation sets up each Workstation to be able to run each program and share the databases located on the server with other users.

SINGLE-USER INSTALLATION
Minimum Hardware Requirements 32-bit operating system Windows 2000/XP/Vista Processor 800-MHz Pentium III or higher RAM memory Windows 2000/XP: 256MB (512MB recommended) Windows Vista: 1GB (2GB recommended) Disk space 500MB (with video courses installed) 130MB (with no video courses installed) Monitor 1024x768 pixel resolution, high-density color Other CD-ROM drive NOTE! If the computer operating system to be used is Windows 2000 or XP, make sure that the user you are working with has administrator privileges for this equipment.

2. A short description of the selected module appears on the right-hand side.

3. Select the appropriate option to install or not to install the module.

NETWORK INSTALLATION
There are two steps to be followed for the network installation: First. The program setup should be performed in a shared folder on a server (refer to Installation on a Server later in this chapter).

Second. From the shared folder on the server, users should run the setup on their own Workstations (refer to Installation on a Workstation later in this chapter).

Installation on a Server
Minimum Hardware Requirements on the SERVER Operating system Windows 2000 Server/2003 Server Processor 500-MHz Pentium III or higher RAM memory 512MB (2GB recommended) Disk space 240MB Other Access to a CD-ROM drive

2 Installation To install the programs on a server, you need to have complete network access privileges. The network installation should be executed by the network administrator. Programs need not necessarily to be installed on the network server; they can be installed on any PC accessible to all users who will use the programs. The computer where the programs are to be installed should be continuously turned on, so that the network-connected Workstations can have access to the programs and shared database at all times. These are the steps to follow: 1. Insert the CD into a CD-ROM drive. If the program does not automatically run, choose Execute on the Windows Start menu and write D:\SETUP.EXE.

2. 3.

Select the MP option and follow the on-screen instructions. After installing the programs, install the HASP key as described in Chapter 3.

Installation on a server does not create any groups or shortcuts to the programs in the computer. In order to operate the programs, you need to make an installation on each computer where the programs are to be operated, by following the next procedure.

2 - Installation

Installation on a Workstation
Minimum Hardware Requirements on the Workstation 32-bit operating system Windows 2000/XP/Vista Processor 800-MHz Pentium III or higher RAM memory Windows 2000/XP: 256MB (512MB recommended) Windows Vista: 1GB (2GB recommended) Disk space 470MB (with video courses installed) 100MB (with no video courses installed) Monitor 1024x768 pixel resolution, high-density color Installation on a Workstation is only executed when programs have been previously installed on a server. Installation on Workstations should be individually performed on each PC that will use the programs from the network. Even if the programs shall be operated by the same server, the installation should also be locally conducted. The folder where the MPsofware programs had been installed on the network (e.g. \\SERVER\MPsoftSv or F:\MPsoftSv) shall be completely accessible for the Workstations, that means, the program folder must be shared throughout its levels with total access (Full Control) to all users who will access the program. These are the steps to follow: 1. 2. From the Windows Explorer, locate the computer and the folder where the MPsoftware programs have been installed. (e.g. \\SERVER\MPsoftSv or F:\MPsoftSv). Execute the NSETUP.EXE program. NOTE! If the computer operating system to be used is Windows 2000 or XP, make sure that the user you are working with has administrator privileges for this equipment. NOTE! If the computer operating system to be used is Windows 2000 or XP, make sure that the user you are working with has administrator privileges for this equipment, and proceed to disable the User Account Control (UAC) under User Accounts in the Control Panel.

1. Choose the application you want or do not want to install. You may also choose any of its modules separately.

2. A short description of the selected module appears on the righthand side.

3. Select the appropriate option to install or not to install the module.

MODIFYING, REPAIRING, OR REMOVING A PROGRAM INSTALLATION

To uninstall all programs or to add or delete a single module, these steps should be followed: 1. 2. 3. From the Start> Setup > Control Panel module, choose Add or Remove Programs. Search for the MPSOFTWARE application and click on the button in order to modify the installation. Select the displayed desired option and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once the installation is complete, the service should be enabled. Below you will learn how to do it.

10

2 Installation
This option enables you to add and/or remove modules over the previous installation. This option re-installs all the modules, in the event that they have resulted damaged on the computer.

This option completely uninstalls the application.

NOTE! Once the MPsoftware programs have been installed, whether you run the SETUP.EXE application from the CD or the NSETUP.EXE application from the network server, the installation will acknowledge that a previous installation exists and this screen will be displayed once again.

3. HASP KEY

3 HASP Key
To operate the programs, you need to properly install the HASP key on any computer USB port.

The programs include any of the following two HASP keys: HASP HL Pro key (single-user; purple) HASP HL Net key (network; red)

NOTE! The evaluation programs do not include any keys. When running the programs for the first time, an access password shall be prompted. To request it, you should call your dealer or contact Tcnica Aplicada Internacional, S.A. de C.V., and provide the data shown on screen.

HASP LICENSE MANAGER

In order for the PC where the HASP key is installed to be able to properly communicate with the key through the USB port, the installation of the HASP License Manager is mandatory. The HASP License Manager interfaces with the programs and the HASP key. In other words, the programs communicate with the HASP connector through the HASP License Manager. Whenever a HASP key is inserted on a computer that has a Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista operating system, the HASP License Manager must be installed. If the HASP License Manager is not installed, the programs will not be able to find the key.

12

3 HASP Key

INSTALLING THE HASP HL PRO KEY (SINGLE-USER)

To operate the programs (single-user version) on a local computer, you only need to insert the HASP HL Pro key in any of the available USB ports. The HASP License Manager is automatically installed simultaneously with the programs. NOTE! The HASP License Manager uses port 1947 to communicate with local and/or remote keys. If you use firewalls, make sure this port is not blocked.

INSTALLING THE HASP HL NET KEY (NETWORK)

These are the steps to be followed when installing the HASP HL Net key on a network: Install the HASP License Manager. Install the HASP HL Net key.

Networks and Protocols Supported by the HASP HL Net Key

The HASP HL Net key supports all networks compatible with IPX, TCP/IP, and NetBIOS communication protocols.

3 HASP Key The HASP HL Net key can be inserted in any network computer that has the Windows operating system installed. That computer does not necessarily have to be the network server or the same computer where the network administrator had installed the MPsoftware programs. The computer where the HASP HL Net key shall be installed should always be turned on, so that the network-connected Workstations may have access to the key at all times.

13

HASP License Manager

The HASP License Manager is an application not related to the MPsoftware programs that serves as a link between the HASP HL Net key and the programs. Notwithstanding that the programs require Windows 2000/XP/Vista to be run, the HASP HL Net key and the HASP License Manager can be installed on any computer that has Windows installed. The HASP License Manager shall remain active while the programs are being operated by any user from any Workstation.

Installing the HASP License Manager

To install the HASP License Manager, follow these steps: 1. Execute the Windows Explorer on the computer where the HASP HL Net keylock will be installed. Locate the computer and the folder where the MPsoftware programs have been installed and access the ..\Hasp_SRM subfolder. Execute the HASPUserSetup application and follow the on-screen instructions. Install the HASP HL Net key on the USB port. The computer will detect the new device and complete the installation of all drivers.

2. 3.

NOTE! The HASP License Manager uses port 1947 to communicate with local and/or remote keys. If you use firewalls, make sure this port is not blocked.

Setting Up the HASP License Manager

Typically, when running programs namely, the MP, Spare Parts Inventory, and/or Tools Tracker-, these start an automatic search and find the HASP key location. However, there are occasions where programs are not able to automatically find the key. In these cases, it is necessary to set up some parameters of the HASP License Manager in order to manually specify the HASP key location.

14

3 HASP Key To set up the HASP License Manager, follow these steps: 1. 2. From the Start > Programs > MPsoftware > HASP Utilities menu, execute the HASP Admin Control Center. Choose Configuration > Access to Remote License Managers.

3. 4. 5. 6.

Verify that the Broadcast Search for Remote Licenses box is not checked. On Specify Search Parameters, add the IP or server name where the HASP key is physically located. Click Submit to perform the setup modification.

4. WORKSTATIONS MANAGER

4 Workstations Manager
When the MP is installed on a Workstation or client, this installation should be considered a license. The MP can be installed on as many Workstations or clients as licenses have been purchased (e.g. If you purchased a 5-license MP, you can only execute the MP from 5 different Workstations). The number of licenses has nothing to do with the number of users that may access the MP, since users are logged in separately on each database. This means that a 5-license MP may be accessed by n number of users, but they can only do so from the 5 Workstations where the MP has been installed. When running the MP for the first time, this Workstation is automatically registered on the Workstation Manager. If you would like to run the MP from another Workstation, the program itself will prevent you from doing so. If you would like to run the MP from a Workstation which has been blocked by the program for having exceeded the number of purchased licenses, you may choose 2 options: Purchase additional licenses to be used with the MP program. Remove any existing Workstations from the Workstations Manager, in order for the new Workstation to be later automatically registered.

Removing Workstations
To remove a Workstation on the Workstations Manager, follow these steps: 1. From the Start > Programs > MPsoftware menu, execute the Workstations Manager.

18

4 Workstations Manager

1. Choose the Delete option.

2. Once changes have been made, click the Save Information button in order for them to be applied.

5. MP UPDATE SERVICE

5 MP Update Service
The MP Update Service is a standalone program that connects to Internet and automatically downloads the latest versions of the programs for all the languages available. With the computer turned on and this service enabled, all the available updates are seamlessly downloaded from the Internet into a shared folder on the local network. Then, all the Workstations with any MP application installed will search the downloaded updates on the same folder and those will be installed on each one of the Workstations without the need of being collectively and individually logged on to the Internet. This process dramatically streamlines the program update, since the Internet download is performed just once for all the Workstations. There are multiple approaches on how to install this service. A. Equipment with single-user MP and Internet connection

B.

Equipment with single-user MP and no Internet connection

20

5 MP Update Service C. Server with network MP and Internet connection

D.

Server with network MP and no Internet connection

INSTALLATION
The steps to be followed for the installation are virtually the same in all instances: First. The service installation shall be performed on a computer with Internet connection. (Refer to Installing the Service later in this chapter).

Second. Set up the Support Center on each Workstation where any MP application is installed (refer to Setting Up the Support Center later in this chapter).

Installing the Service

NOTE! The MP Update Service shall be installed on a single equipment. This equipment shall have an Internet connection.

5 MP Update Service

21

NOTE! The computer where the service will be installed can be the same where the single-user MP version is installed, the server, or any other computer connected to the network. To install the MP Update Service, follow these steps: 1. Insert the CD into a CD-ROM drive. If the program does not automatically run, choose Execute on the Windows Start menu and type D:\SETUP.EXE.

2. 3.

Select the MP Update Service option and follow the on-screen instructions. Once installed, the MP Update Service will be displayed on the next screen.

22

5 MP Update Service 4. Write down the location of the update folder displayed at the bottom of the window. This folder is where the updates will be downloaded to from the Internet (e.g. C:\MPsoftSv\Updates). This folder will be later located from each one of the Workstations when setting up the Support Center. If you would like to choose another folder, you may do so under the Settings Options.

NOTE! The folder where the updates shall be downloaded to from the Internet should be shared by all MP users. Simply installing the MP Update Service does not mean that the applications will be automatically updated on the clients or Workstations. You must set up the Support Center, as described below, in order for the Workstations to take the latest downloads and install them on all clients.

Setting Up the Support Center

The Support Center is in charge of updating, from the download folder, the applications installed on each one of the clients or Workstations. This is also applicable to the MP single-user versions. In order for the Support Center to know where the updates downloaded from the Internet are located, you need to proceed as follows: NOTE! The following process shall be performed on all Workstations where any MP applications are installed. 1. 2. From the Start > Programs > MPsoftware menu, execute the Support Center. Go to the Updates module and select the Settings option.

3.

Search and choose the same folder where the updates will be downloaded to from the Internet through the MP Update Service (refer to Installing the Service later in this chapter).

6. MAINTENANCE REQUESTS VIA THE INTRANET/INTERNET

6 Maintenance Requests via the Intranet/Internet (Enterprise Edition Only)

The Maintenance Requests module enables users to report failures from any location via the Intranet or Internet, by using an Internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) so that all these requests may be later managed by the maintenance staff using the Request Manager module. The database where the requests reported by the users are stored (Requests.mdb) is completely independent from the databases managed by the MP (*.m91), which means that this module can be installed either on the same computer where the MP was installed (network or single-user) or on any other computer within the same network, or even on an Internet server. There are 2 ways of installing this service: Locally on the company network (Intranet). The service is locally installed on any network computer. The Intranet is a computer network within a private, corporate, or educational Local Area Network (LAN) providing Internet tools. On the company Internet server. If the company has an Internet domain name (e.g. www.mycompany.com), this service can be installed by using the Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Services) on the company Internet server. This installation process shall be monitored by the Systems staff or by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Once a maintenance request has been reported, it shall be managed by another MP module called Request Manager. In this module, the administrator keeps track of all the requests reported by the users and can even forward them to the MP program from which a work order can be generated.

LOCAL INSTALLATION (INTRANET)

To install the service to report maintenance requests on the company local network, these steps should be followed: NOTE! The computer where the service will be installed can be the same where the single-user version MP is installed, the server, or any other computer connected to the network.

24

6 Maintenance Requests via the Intranet/Internet 1. Insert the CD into a CD-ROM drive. If the program does not automatically run, choose Execute on the Windows Start menu and type D:\SETUP.EXE.

2. 3.

Select the Request Service option and follow the on-screen instructions. Once installed, the Request Service will be displayed on the next screen.

4. 5.

Make sure that the service status is INITIATED. If not, click the Install button. Write down the link displayed on the window (e.g. http://ws-pablo:8081). This link shall be typed later on your Internet browser to access the service.

To learn more about how to use this service, refer to Requests via Internet/Intranet on the video course.

From the Start > Programs > MPsoftware > Maintenance Requests, execute the Request Manager. When accessing the Request Manager for the first time, the program will prompt you to specify the location of the Requests.mdb database. You may modify these settings later, if desired, from the Tools-> Connection Settings option.

3. 4.

Select the Local (Intranet) option. Search for the Requests.mdb file under the BasesMDB sub-folder on the computer where you installed the service to report maintenance requests.

INSTALLING ON THE COMPANY INTERNET SERVER

If the company has an Internet domain name (e.g. www.mycompany.com), the service can be installed by using the Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Services) on the company Internet server. This installation process shall be monitored by the Systems staff or by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). To install the service to report maintenance requests on the company Internet server, these steps should be followed: 1. 2. 3. Insert the CD into a CD-ROM drive. If the installation begins automatically, cancel it. From the Windows Explorer, locate the D:\ServSolicitud\ServidorWEB folder on the CD. Copy the entire folder content to your Internet server.

26

6 Maintenance Requests via the Intranet/Internet

Enabling the Request Service

In order to be able to use the Request Service and report failures via the Windows Internet Explorer, the Request Service should be enabled. Follow these steps to enable the service: 1. 2. Using the Microsoft IIS service, add the Request Service by selecting the folder on the Internet server where the files were previously copied to from the installation CD. To access the Request Service through your Internet Explorer, you must type the path or link on the Explorer where the service was enabled (e.g. www.mpsoftware.com.mx/scripts/RequestService/MPRequests.dll).

To learn more about how to use this service, refer to Requests Via Internet/Intranet on the video course.

Setting Up the Request Manager

In order for the Request Manager to know where the database that stores the requests (Requests.mdb) is located, you should proceed as follows: 1. 2.

3.

Select the Remote (Internet) option.

6 Maintenance Requests via the Intranet/Internet 4. Specify the server path where the service to report maintenance requests (MPRequests.dll) was installed.

7. ONCE THE PROGRAMS ARE INSTALLED

7 Once the Programs Are Installed

When the programs installation is complete, you will be able to access them from the group being generated Start > Programs > MPsoftware. A database called SAMPLES is included for each program, which will be useful to you to begin practicing with the program.

Practical Video Course

We highly recommend you take the video course included with each program. These courses are structured as lessons, with explanations and videos showing in great detail the steps to be followed for implementing these programs.

Creating Databases and Users

The programs allow for working with different databases. You can create different databases with the purpose of organizing your information. Each database is totally independent from the other. The names of the users who will have access to each one of the bases can be registered for each database. The access privileges each user will have on the program can be also registered. All this information has been detailed in the video course.
