The Other Words Writers’ Workshops:


Hone your skills and build your creative
energies with a full-day of Master Workshops
by writers and editors from the Florida Literary
Arts Coalition on Friday, November 6, from 9
am-5 pm., at Flagler College in St. Augustine,
Florida.

The daylong program includes workshops in poetry, fiction, playwriting, and creative nonfiction, an introduction to
small presses, a panel on building your credentials through publishing in literary magazines and journals, a panel
on promoting your work and yourself, and a panel on how to pitch a manuscript.  Participating writers include
Jordan Smith, Jenny Browne, Lynn Chandhok, and Terri Witek (poetry); Joseph Hayes (playwriting); Ira
Sukrungruang (nonfiction); Audrey Colombe (fiction), and others. Editors and publishers include Richard
Mathews (Tampa Review and the University of Tampa Press), Rick Campbell (Anhinga Press), Terry Kennedy
(Greensboro Review) Ted Pelton (Starcherone Press), and Michael Neff (Web Del Sol).

Cost for the Friday Workshops is just $40.  Only a limited number of participants can be enrolled, so
please contact us as soon as possible to reserve your place.* Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

BUILD YOUR OWN PROGRAM: We will work with each person enrolling to build a schedule best suited to your
individual interests. We will offer one on one chat sessions with writers and editors and individual manuscript
consultations for an additional fee.

Chat sessions: $25 for 20 minutes.


Manuscripts consultations: $75 for 20 minutes. (Prose manuscripts limited to 25 pages; poetry 12 pages).

The Other Words Writers’ Workshops are being planned as a pre-conference event for the annual Other Words
conference of the Florida Literary Arts Coalition, cosponsored by Flagler College and Jane’s Stories
Press.  Friday evening the OTHER WORDS Conference of Literary Magazines, Independent Publishers,
and Writers begins. The Conference will be kicked off by a reading by Michael Waters and Jordan Smith,
Jenny Browne, and Peter Meinke from the University of Tampa Press. The conference continues all day
Saturday and Sunday until noon with panels, readings, workshops and a book fair.  Saturday’s night’s reading
features Diana Abu-Jaber and Judson Mitcham. Registration for the literary conference begins at 5 p.m.
on Friday, November 6 and the conference fee is $80. Writers’ Workshop participants can register for
both the Friday writers’ workshops and the Saturday conference sessions for a special rate of $100.

Panel proposals for the Other Words conference relating to writing, publishing, and literary arts are being accepted
now and should be sent to Jim Wilson at jimwilson@flagler.edu If you’re interested, please let us hear from
