Process Paper
Our information and research gathered was about J. Robert Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project. The topic was chosen because World War II has always been an appealing topic to our group. We wanted to learn about the atomic bomb that ended World War II. The building process was known as the Manhattan Project which was led by J. Robert Oppenheimer. This action taken by the United States ended the conflict with Japan, thus marking the end of World War II. Our information portrays balanced research of both primary and secondary sources. Two sources were the most informative out of all the other sources. One of our sources was from Harry S. Trumans letter to the White House titled Announcing the Bomb of Hiroshima. The Atom Bomb Project by Sabrina Crewe, was also one of the more informative sources we have. In Harry S. Trumans letter, Announcing the Bomb of Hiroshima, he announced that America had just released Little Boy over Hiroshima. He also informed the White House on the design specifications of the bomb. Sabrina Crewes book The Atom Bomb Project, went into detail on how the atomic bomb worked. In theory, the neutrons of an atom would split other atoms to cause a chain reaction. This process of a large amount of splitting atoms would cause the bombs explosion. With this information from both Harry S. Trumans letter Announcing the Bomb of Hiroshima and Sabrina Crewes book The Atom Bomb Project, we can provide an immense amount of information to our website. We will present our project as a website because it would provide a better format for our presentation. Choosing to use a website will fulfill our expectations of having a marvelous demonstration of our hard work. Our website will allow our viewers to have access to an

Gabriel, Nazy, Nguyenla, Pinedo 2 organized database of information. Presenting our topic J. Robert Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project as a website is the best option. J. Robert Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project relates to the theme, Rights and Responsibilities in History because the United States had believed they had the right to construct and release the atomic bomb. They believed they had the right to construct it because they believed that the nuclear weapon would end World War II sooner. If other countries had the weapon, they could threaten the United States by dropping it on them. This came with the responsibility of keeping Americans safe. With the atomic bomb in the United States possession, it would prevent other countries from attacking because of the destructive power it could cause. This would allow Americans to be safe from harm. The United States also had believed that they the right to drop the bomb on Japan because it was for revenge of Pearl Harbor. The Japanese had bombed the island without warning. Dropping the atomic bomb was to also show Russia and other countries what the United States were capable of doing, so that they would not attack. The United States designed and released the atomic bomb in order to put an end to World War II and to save American lives in the process. On the other hand, Japan believed that the United States did not have the right to design and drop the bomb. They believed that the bomb was too destructive and would bring an end to mankind.
