Jan. 10 - Apponequet senior swimmer Alex Turner sets two school records -- in the 200-yard freestyle and 500 freestyle -- during a win over Seekonk. Jan. 12 - Bishop Stang's Zach Mello takes fourth place in the 55-meter dash at the Dartmouth Relay Carnival, which coaches believed was the first time a Spartan had placed in the top 10 at the national meet. Jan. 13 - Old Rochester's girls track teams won the Division 4 relays, while the boys team finished second. Megan Bell, Paige Santos, Kristen Fuller, Ally Saccone won the shuttle hurdles with a school-record time of 30.18 seconds. Jan 15 - Cory Ponte scores 33 points to become the third member of GNB Voc-Tech's 1,000 point club. His 1,000th point came on a 3-pointer in the first quarter. Jan. 16 - Apponequet's Megan Yarmolovicz breaks her own school record in the shot put (33-foot-5) in a 61-25 girls track victory over GNB Voc-Tech. Also, Cam O'Connor scores four goals in an ORR/Fairhaven boys hockey win. Jan. 19 - Simeon Bailey cleared 6-6 to set a GNB Voc-Tech school record (and meet record) in the high jump at the East Coast Track and Field Championships in Providence. Jan. 22 - The Apponequet boys swim team wins its first-ever, dual-meet, Southern Conference title with its first undefeated (7-0) conference record after topping Brockton 96-59. On the last day of the month, the Lakers win the SCC outright with 312 points at the conference meet. On that day, Alex Gallant breaks his own school record in the 100 backstroke (1:04.93). Jan. 23 - Old Rochester's boys and girls track teams clinch South Coast Conference championships. For the girls, it was their fifth straight league title, while the boys won for the third consecutive

year. Jan. 25 - Darien Fernandez becomes the all-time leading scorer in Wareham boys basketball history when he hits the first of two free throws in the third quarter of a win over Fairhaven. He finished the game with 1,225 points, edging past Aaron Strothers' mark of 1,224 set in 2007. Jan. 29 - Cory Ponte becomes the all-time leading scorer in GNB Voc-Tech history when he notches his 1,083rd point in a win over Seekonk, eclipsing the previous mark of 1,082 set by Billy Dias in 2009. Jan. 31 - New Bedford wrestling beats Durfee 52-27 to clinch the Big 3 championship for the 14th straight season.

FEBRUARY Feb. 1 - Dartmouth girls basketball clinches a share of the Old Colony league title with a 46-18 win over Bridgewater-Raynham. Feb. 2 - New Bedford's Paolo Tavares pins Oliver Ames' John Holleran for his 163rd career victory, surpassing the previous school record of 162 set by Kenny Francis in 2008. Feb. 6 - Bishop Stang senior Charlie McKeeman signs a National Letter of Intent to play football under a full scholarship at the University of Rhode Island. Feb. 7 - Wareham clinches a share of the SCC title with a 71-54 victory over Bourne. Feb. 9 - A massive blizzard cancels the Sectional Swimming and Diving Championships and the South Coast Conference track championships. All high school events were canceled or postponed for two days and the Div. 1 South Sectional Wrestling Championships were pushed back a week. Feb. 13 - Ashley Brown scores her 1,000th career point for Fairhaven in a 49-47 loss to Dartmouth on Senior Night. Brown now plays for UMass Dartmouth. Feb. 14 - Apponequet's Dylan DeMoranville (55-meter hurdles) and Bishop Stang's Zach Mello (55 dash) win state championships at the Division 3 Indoor Track Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury. Feb. 15 - New Bedford beats Durfee 88-48 to share the Big 3 Championship with Brockton for the second time in three years. Feb. 15 - After 28 years at Dartmouth, boys basketball coach Steve Gaspar coaches his final game, a 64-58 loss to Barnstable. He won 312 games and made the playoffs 19 times. Feb. 16 - New Bedford's Melissa Isidor makes school history as the Whalers' first-ever double winner at the Division 1 State Indoor Track Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury. She won the long jump (17-6) and the 55-meter hurdles (8.48 seconds). Feb. 17 - Bishop Stang girls swimming and diving team takes fourth at Division 2 State Meet at Harvard University. Two relays finished third. Feb. 21 - Wareham boys basketball finishes its second consecutive undefeated South Coast

Conference season with a 16-0 mark. Feb. 23 - It's a busy day for SouthCoast athletes. Melissa Isidor just misses a state championship for New Bedford when she finishes second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.35 seconds) and third in the long jump. On the same day, New Bedford's Paolo Tavares finishes fourth at the All-State wrestling meet at 138 pounds. He reached the semifinals before dropping a 10-8 decision. Meanwhile, the GNB VocTech and Old Colony boys basketball teams win state Vocational titles. The Bears beat Whittier 6963 in the large school division, while the Cougars beat South Shore 69-54 for the small school title. Feb. 24 - The UMass Dartmouth women's basketball team reaches its first LEC championship game and sets a school record for wins in a season (20). Colleen Moriarty is named LEC Player of the Year after averaging 19.0 points per game. Five days earlier the team had won its first-ever LEC tournament game.

MARCH March 2 - The Corsairs' hockey team defeats Plymouth State 2-1 for its first MASCAC hockey championship and a spot in the NCAA Division III tournament, where it will lose 5-2 to Bowdoin. On the same day, New Bedford's Melissa Isidor finished third in the 55-meter dash at the 26th Annual New England Interscholastic Track and Field Championships, while Old Rochester's Ally Saccone took fourth in the same race. New Bedford wrestler Paulo Tavares takes third at 138 pounds in the New England meet. March 5 - Fourth-seeded GNB Voc-Tech upsets top-seeded and unbeated Blue Hills 57-42 in the Div. 4 South girls basketball semifinals. March 9 - GNB Voc-Tech's girls basketball team wins the Div. 4 South Sectional championship with a 62-55 win over Millis, while the Wareham boys basketball team falls 77-71 to Martha's Vineyard in the Div. 3 South Section finals. Also on this day, Dartmouth High alum Molly Rouillard finishes seventh in the one-mile run at the NCAA Div. III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, earning her All-American status. March 11 - Playing at the TD Garden, Fenway tops GNB Voc-Tech 56-47 in the Div. 4 Eastern Mass. Championship. March 18 - Twenty-four-year-old Kevin Johnson out-races defending champion Matt Pelletier to win the 36th annual New Bedford Half Marathon in 1:06.04. Pelletier finished second by 50 seconds. Stephanie Reilly wins the women's race. March 27 - Bishop Stang's Morgan Lester wins the Dave Cowens Achievement Award, becoming the seventh Spartan to win the award.

APRIL April 1 - Harry Lowe wins his 500th win as New Bedford High's softball coach in a 3-2 win over Dartmouth in the team season opener. At the time, his career record is 500-130. April 4 - Bay Gammons sets a school record in the 2-mile for Fairhaven, finishing in 12:18.2, besting the 26-year-old record, set by Julie Isaksen in 1987, by 10 seconds. April 5 - Apponequet's Josh Fickert no-hits Old Rochester with 12 strikeouts in a 1-0 win.

April 22 - Bishop Stang's Olivia Decas signs a letter of intent to swim under scholarship at Sacred Heart University. April 23 - Jake Friar puts his signature on a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Sacred Heart University. April 26 - Dartmouth beats Apponequet 13-12 to end a Lakers regular-season winning streak that had lasted nearly two years. April 27 - The GNB Voc-Tech 4x100 relay team teamed up to place sixth at the Div. 2 State Relays and broke a 31-year-old school record of 45.1 by finishing in 45.01 seconds. April 28 - New Bedford's javelin throwers broke a school mark that had stood for 23 years when Ellie Bucknell, Leslie Roda and Aubrey Williams combined to throw for 287 feet, 2 inches. April 29 - Apponequet's Alee Wright hits for a cycle, including a two-run home runs, and also throws a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in a 12-0 win over Bourne.

MAY May 1 - Apponequet girls tennis shocks Old Rochester 4-1, ending the Bulldogs' seven-year win streak that stretched over 111 regular-season matches. May 2 - New Bedford's Alexis Debrosse signs a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Central Connecticut State College in New Britain. May 4 - A three-sport star at Bishop Stang, Morgan Lester decides to try rowing at Division 1 University of San Diego. She turns down offers to play DIII basketball. On the same day, Wareham's Aliyah Alley breaks the meet record at GNB Voc-Tech's sunset meet in the 200 with a time of 25.97. To finish a busy day, the UMass Dartmouth men's tennis team falls 5-4 to UMass Boston in the LEC championship. May 6 - Darien Fernandez takes his basketball talents to Laramie County Community College in Wyoming, with the hopes of raising his academics and earning a spot in Division 1. On the same day, Fairhaven lacrosse's Kobie Edwards scores his 200th career goal in a 13-9 loss to Abington. May 10 - UMass Dartmouth tracksters set three school records at the Open New England Championships. Krista Chauvin won the hammer throw with a stadium-record toss of 182 feet, 6 inches. Gerald Arneaud set a school record in the 400 (49.06), and Jillian Van Ness set a school record in the 400 (49.06). May 11 - Wareham's Aliyah Alley sets a school record in the 100 dash (12.8) and also anchors the 4x400 squad that breaks a 33-year school record with a 4:19.2 finish. Also running were Caitlyn Berger, Maddie St. Julien and Paige Fehskens. On the same day, UMass Dartmouth's baseball team loses in the title game of the LEC tournament, 7-6, to the University of Southern Maine.

May 13 - Fairhaven's boys lacrosse team tops Apponequet 12-7 to win its second consecutive South Coast Conference crown. On the same day, Bob Ryan wins his 300th team match as the New Bedford boys tennis head coach. At the time, his record is 300-241.

May 14 - Dartmouth softball clinches its second-straight Maritime League Championship with a 13-5 win over Bridgewater-Raynham. On the same day, Bishop Stang girls lacrosse earns a share of the Eastern Athletic Conference title with an 11-10 win over Bishop Feehan. May 15 - GNB Voc-Tech wins the South Coast Conference track championship, while Old Rochester wins the girls title. On the same day, Apponequet tops Bourne 20-10 in girls lacrosse action to capture its second straight SCC title. May 16 - Wareham's Aliyah Alley, who the day before was named SCC Runner of the Meet, signs a National Letter of Intent to compete for UMass Lowell. On the same day, UMD's Krista Chauvin wins the hammer throw at the ECAC Championships. May 19 - Dartmouth's Pete Breault and Christian Machado reach the quarterfinals of the state individual tennis tournament, as does Old Rochester's Abby Offringa. May 20 - Apponequet softball beats Wareham 12-1 to earn a share of the SCC title with Case for the first time since 1999. May 21 - New Bedford baseball climbs back from a 2-8 start to win the Big 3 championship for the fourth straight year. On the same day, GNB Voc-Tech boys volleyball tops Worcester Tech 3-0 to claim the State Vocational Large School championship. May 22 - GNB Voc-Tech boys track wins its ninth straight State Vocational Championship and 13th in 14 years. May 23 - Longtime Dartmouth baseball coach Tom McDermott announces his retirement after 30 seasons with 334 wins. May 24 - Legendary Hall of Fame New Bedford boys basketball coach Ed Rodrigues takes over as Wareham's athletic director. On the same day, UMD's Krista Chauvin earns All-American honors in the hammer throw. May 25 - GNB Voc-Tech's Derek Lewis shatters the school single-game record for kills with 39, easily surpassing the old mark of 30, set by Chris Jorge in the 1990s and matched by Richie Gomes in 2002. May 26 - A pair of records fall at the MIAA Div. 4 track meet. Old Rochester's Ally Saccone lowered her own meet and school records in the 400 hurdles (62.97), while Mike Wyman breaks the school record in the 2-mile (9:22.23). May 27 - New Bedford's Ellie Bucknell sets a school record in the javelin throw (123-8), set by Sherri Arruda in 1991, and finishes second at the Div. 1 Track and Field Championships. Teammate Melissa Isidor wins the long jump (17-10.75). May 28 - Fairhaven lacrosse tops Watertown 12-9 to win the first playoff game in program history.

JUNE June 1 - Old Rochester's Ally Saccone wins a state title in the 400 hurdles and sets a school record time of 62.50 seconds, which coach Cindy Tilden said was a top-25 time nationally this year. Saccone also finished second in the 100 hurdles. At the same meet, Wareham's Aliyah Alley set a new school

record in the 200 (25.63) and ORR's boys 4x800 relay team set a school record of 8:18.91. June 7 - Two former members of the New Bedford Bay Sox, Luke Farrell and Steven Janas, are selected in the MLB draft. Farrell is taken 174th by the Royals and Janas is taken 193rd by the Braves. June 8 - New Bedford's Irvin Johnson finishes second in New England in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.89 seconds. June 9 - Bishop Stang softball continues its Cinderella run by beating Dedham 5-3 to capture the school's first-ever Div. 2 South sectional title. Four days later Stang will fall 4-3 to Burlington in the state semifinals. June 22 - Two local players, Wareham's Darien Fernandez and Anthony Abbott, play in the Aleppo Shriner's All-Star Football Classic. Coach Dan Nault serves as an assistant for the South squad. June 29 - Wareham's Darien Fernandez and Old Rochester's Ally Saccone are named the StandardTimes Scholastic Athletes of the Year.

JULY July 4 - East Bridgewater's Jason Eddie and Milton's Molly Comerford win the men's and women's divisions, respectively, at the 4th of July Mattapoisett Road Race. July 9 - Fairhaven's Tyler Hemingway leads three local competitors in the New England PGA Junior Championships at Marlborough Country Club. Hemingway finished 23rd, Acushnet's Ted Romanelli is 39th and Lakeville's Zach Smith is tied for 44th. July 17 - Brian Medeiros coaches the Coastal team to a gold medal in soccer at the Bay State Games. July 18 - The Greater New Bedford PONY League's 13-year-old all-star team reaches the zone championships in Cranberry Township, Pa. July 20 - Lakeville's 10-year-old all-stars take second place at the Massachusetts Little League State Tournament. July 22 - Four New Bedford Bay Sox play in the NECBL's 20th All-Star Game: Pitcher Johnny Lieske, catcher Chris Travers, outfielder Carl Anderson and Chris Shaw played for the Eastern Division. Wareham, meanwhile, sends four to the Cape Cod League All-Star game. July 29 - The Dartmouth Post 307 American Legion team reaches the semifinals of the South Sectional tournament before losing two one-run games against Franklin.

AUGUST Aug. 3 - The three local girls -- Hannah Cook and Caroline Cabral of Dartmouth, and Taylor Ryan of Lakeville -- help the Vipers FC U17 3v3 team to a national championship at the Challenge Sports tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complexat Disney World. Aug. 4 - Greater New Bedford's Pony League U14 all-stars reach the East Zone Championship in High Point, N.C., to Chesterfield, Va.On the same day, Vivian Picinisco and Helga Lind win 2-and-1

over Jan Santos and Kim DeRossi-Walecka in the finals of the Allendale Country Club Women's Member-Guest Fourball. Aug. 10 - The city-wide Summer Basketball Classic brings hundreds to New Bedford for a 3-on-3 tournament organized by Eric Britto. Aug. 11 - Jason Hantman and his father, Dr. Ron Hantman, defeat Bob Marinelli and Brian Radell in the 83rd Annual Country Club of New Bedford Invitational Fourball. Aug. 16 - A retirement ceremony is held for longtime Wareham assistant football coach Gil 'Dobie' Franklin, who coached in the program for 37 years. Aug. 23 - Kim Walecka and Rosemary Zehntner notch a 3-and-2 win over Deb Hynes and Terry Garrett in the championship match of the 35th annual Country Club of New Bedford Women's Fourball. Aug. 24 - Dartmouth High grad Jordan Todman runs for 105 yards in a preseason game against the Eagles. He scores a touchdown on a 63-yard scamper.

SEPTEMBER Sept. 2 - Jason Eddy wins the Acushnet Road Race in 21:27, while Anne Preisig wins the women's division. Sept. 6 - Ten South Shore All-Stars are members of Team Massachusetts, which takes fourth in the PGA Junior League Golf Championship at TPC Sugarloaf. Sept. 19 - New Bedford's Jacinda McCartney scores the lone goal in a 1-0 girls soccer win over Dartmouth, marking the first time the Whalers had beaten the Indians in three years. Sept. 22 - Jordan Todman scores his first regular-season NFL touchdown on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter of a 38-10 loss. Sept. 28 - New Bedford born and Mattapoisett raised Peter Uihlen holds the lead after three rounds of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews in Scotland. He ends up losing a playoff to David Howell. Sept. 29 - Old Colony football beats West Bridgewater 30-22 in overtime, marking the first time it has beaten the Wildcats since 2001 and its first Mayflower League win in four years.

OCTOBER Oct. 8 - Apponequet boys golf clinches its first South Coast Conference in 19 years with a 193-120 win over GNB Voc-Tech. The Lakers wrapped up the second undefeated regular season in program history two days later against Wareham. On the same day, Dartmouth girls soccer beats BridgwaterRaynham 2-1 to clinch its sixth straight Old Colony League title. To complete a busy day, Old Rochester's Mike Wyman sets an Apponequet course record of 16:09. Oct. 9 - Old Colony boys golf takes first at the 21-team State Vocational Invite. The Cougars were 29 strokes ahead of second place.

Oct. 11 - The New Bedford boys soccer team is ranked eighth in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and No. 1 in the state by ESPN Boston. Oct. 11 - Apponequet field hockey claims its second straight South Coast Conference championship with a 6-0 win over Bourne. In the same game, Cara Storms sets a new single-season scoring record with 26 goals, breaking Lisa Mello's mark set in 1998. Later in the season, teammate Lizzie Loranger will also surpass the previous scoring record. On the same day, Apponequet football coach Bob Lomp wins his 100th game. Oct. 15 - The Old Rochester girls cross country team captures its third straight SCC title. Meanwhile, ORR's Mike Wyman sets a course record at Dighton-Rehoboth with a time of 16:18. On the same day, the Apponequet boys win the South Coast Conference golf championship by eight strokes over Old Rochester, and Logan Patenaude of Dartmouth sets a new course record at Barnstable. Oct. 16 - Old Colony boys golf earns a share of the Mayflower League championship with Tri-County. Oct. 18 - With its sixth win of the year, a victory over Wareham, the Old Rochester football team clinches its first winning season since 2008. It was ORR's first win at Spillane Field since 2002.

Oct. 21 - Apponequet's boys soccer team captures its second consecutive South Coast Conference title with a 9-1 win over Wareham, while on the same day Lakers' girls soccer team clinches a share of the SCC championship. Oct. 22 - Logan Patenaude sets a new cross-country course record at Dartmouth, finishing in 16:32 and besting the previous time of 16:48 set by New Bedford's Paolo Tavares in 2012. Meanwhile, the Indians' Maddie Pfirrman set a new school record of 21:07, more than a minute faster than the old record of 22:36 set in 2011. On the same day, New Bedford field hockey beats Brockton 5-2 to clinch the Big 3 title. Oct. 23 - New Bedford's girls volleyball team wins the Big 3 for the 30th time in 31 years by beating Brockton 3-2. Two days later, the Whalers will cap their third undefeated regular season. Oct. 25 - GNB Voc-Tech beats Bourne 35-14 to punch its ticket to the Div. 5 state football playoffs for the first time in school history. It was also the Bears' first win at Jackson Field since 1991. Oct. 26 - Cole Bernier scores on the final play of the game to give Old Colony football its first October win in six years and first two-win Mayflower conference season in more than a decade. On the same day, New Bedford girls cross country claimed the Big 3 title with a win over Brockton, snapping the Boxers' 10-year conference reign. Oct. 28 - ORR's Mike Wyman wins an individual South Coast Conference title, while Fairhaven's Bay Gammans wins the girls crown. ORR's boys and girls won the team titles. Oct. 29 - Fairhaven girls volleyball tops Case 3-1 to win a share of the SCC championship. Oct. 30 - GNB Voc-Tech boys soccer wins its second straight vocational state title with a 2-0 win over Blackstone Valley. Oct. 31 - This time it's the GNB Voc-Tech volleyball team winning a vocational state crown, beating

Blackstone Valley 3-0. On the same day, UMass Dartmouth announces former NHL and New Bedford High defenseman Brian Pothier has joined the Corsairs' hockey staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

NOVEMBER Nov. 5 - The Bishop Stang volleyball team beats Somerset-Berkley 3-1 to advance to the Div. 2 South Semifinals for the first time in school history. On the same day, the UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team wins its first-ever LEC tournament game, a 2-1 victory over Southern Maine. Nov. 8 - Old Rochester football advances to its first South finals with an 38-20 win over East Bridgewater. A week later, the Bulldogs fall 47-20 to Abington. Nov. 9 - Fairhaven girls volleyball wins its first-ever Div. 3 South Sectional championship by beating Case 3-0 in Pembroke. On the same day, ORR's Mike Wyman wins the Div. 5 boys cross country title in 15:27, and Apponequet field hockey falls in the South Sectional championship game. Nov. 16 - Fairhaven girls volleyball falls one win short of a state title, losing 3-1 to Frontier in the Div. 3 state finals in Northboro. On the same day, ORR's Mike Wyman finishes fifth at the state cross country race. Nov. 17 - Bishop Stang swimming finishes 10th at the Div. 2 state swim meet while Sienna Lapalme takes second in the 100 breaststroke. On the same day, Tabor Academy shares the Class B NEPSAC girls soccer championship with The Rivers School. Nov. 18 - Bishop Stang's Jared Zaniewski signs a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at UMass Lowell. Nov. 24 - The Fairhaven High cheerleading squad finishes third in the MSSAA State Cheer Tournament. A week earlier, the Blue Devils had captured the Div. 4 South Regional championship. Nov. 27 - Old Colony's Jake Pringle becomes the first area player to throw for 20 touchdowns in a season in at least 39 years when he connects with Cole Bernier. Nov. 28 - On Thanksgiving Day, New Bedford wins the Big 3 football crown with a 33-6 demolition of Durfee, and Old Rochester wins the South Coast Conference with a 14-6 victory over Apponequet. It is the Whalers' first conference title since 2010 and the Bulldogs' first since 2002. Also, GNB VocTech ties a school record for wins in a season with seven.

DECEMBER Dec. 3 - Tabor Academy's Halle Silva, an Acushnet native, signs a National Letter of Intent to play Division I women's ice hockey at Northeastern University. Dec. 7 - UMD's Kevin Cutler and Krista Chauvin set new school records for the indoor track team. Cutler's comes in the high jump (6-10.25) and Chauvin's is in the 20-pound weight throw (54-8.25). On the same day, Westport grad Matthew Medeiros scores his 1,000th point at St. Joseph's College. Dec. 11 - Bishop Connoly's Brian Quinn wins the 2013 Otto Graham Award at GNB Voc-Tech. Dec. 15 - Jordan Todman totals 153 total yards in his first NFL start, including 109 rushing on 25 carries and 44 receiving yards.

Dec. 18 - The Boston Red Sox' 2013 World Series Trophy makes a stop in New Bedford, where hundreds of residents stand in line to have their picture taken with it. Dec. 20 - Bill Kavanaugh, Jr., Dartmouth High grad and son of the longtime UMD football coach, is hired as the head football coach at Bentley University after six years as an assistant at Penn State. Dec. 21 - Bishop Stang wins the New Bedford Christmas Tournament with a 5-0 victory over GNB Voc-Tech. Dec. 22 - For the second time in a week, Old Rochester's Kevin Saccone breaks his own school record in the 55 hurdles in 7.6 seconds. Dec. 27 - The Bourne-Mashpee-Wareham girls hockey team wins the 2013 Judy Kostas Tournament and Tannah O'Brien is named MVP after having a hand in 11 consecutive goals. On the same day, Dartmouth's Skylar Barthelmes sets a new school record in the shot put (37-2.5), breaking the old mark set in 2006. Dec. 31 - Junior Sean Sylvia and Boston College wrap up their season with a loss to Arizona in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl. Sylvia, a Dartmouth grad, starts every game for the Eagles at free safety.
