In a Word, Hygge
The Danes have a wonderful word for which there is nothing comparable in English. Visiting Copenhagen last winter was my rst encounter with the concept of HYGGE. I saw it in magazines and overheard it in conversationsso many times that I couldnt ignore it. Turns out, the concept aligns so perfectly with our culture, clothes and mission that it was destined to be the inspiration for our Fall 14 collection. First I had to learn how to pronounce itits hue-gah. Hygge instantly conveys the profound sense of well-being that comes from close friends and family, enjoying good food, drink and conversation in cozy environments and elevating the simplest daily rituals into something special. Hygge translates into embracing a life of simple pleasures, being fully present and surrounding oneself with people and things that inspire. The Danes have turned coping with long, dark winters into an art form that balances modern sensibilities and rustic traditions. They have a deep connection to the natural world that the harshest cold doesnt faze and a strong inward focus that compels them to create beautifully, if simply, designed personal environments that glow with warmth. A hyggelit life is an uncomplicated study in being connected, comfortable, content and cozy. In many ways, hygge is all about getting down to the pleasurable business of real life, which is great inspiration for design. Weve added an amazing array of shirts, especially annels, from improbably light and soft to dense, reversible and lushly brushed. There is plenty of coziness and warmth in our new sweaters and jackets and rich colour and pattern throughout the collection. A particular focus for men this season is our expanded pants program. Weve made major changes to our pantsthe t, fabrics, exterior and interior details, the works. We created styles that allow us to feel like a local whether were in Santa Barbara or Copenhagen, whether working or playing, indoors or out. All our pants have a little stretch for long haul comfort, a neutral palette and ample and secure pockets so you can depend on them to travel well. A sampling: We all know that jeans are at the heart of everyones wardrobe so were introducing Drover Denim: 11 oz. organic cotton/spandex denim, regular t in two washes. Timeless and classic, only better. The Norse Pant is a direct result of spending time in Copenhagen and is a uniquely textured, small-scale dobby pattern with a sturdy but soft hand in an organic cotton/spandex blend. The Highroad Work Pant is our utilitarian take on a chino. Its made from a great hybrid twill that blends organic cotton with polyester and spandex. Denmark is rumoured to be one of the happiest nations on earth. Maybe its because the Danes incorporate hygge into their daily lives. Being truly comfortable starts on the inside and extends to what you wear. In a word, hygge.

The spine of this organic cotton twill is the mini herringbone that gives it subtle texture that just gets better with age. A versatile fabric with the kind of mettle that allows its wearer passage to uptown bistros and tractor pulls alike. Its also a quiet fabric that takes getting close to in order to fully appreciate.

Technically a working mans oxford weave, our Dot Matrix is to classic oxford as panini is to grilled cheese. A subtle dot pattern imbedded in the structure puts a slightly neo-spin on this venerated staple, and the soft-nish 100% organic cotton will exceed your expectations for comfort.

Flannel embodies the heart of fall and soul of winter and none expresses that more perfectly than our Marled Flannel. Twisting dark and light yarns together creates a mottled, tweedy base on which to build rich plaids that are both timeless and completely fresh. There is a pleasant heft to the soft, organic cotton that feels like an old friend from the very rst wear.

Our Bandwidth eece is on the same wavelength as laid back. This subtle yarn-dyed French terry is ne tuned not too light and not too heavy to handle seasonal transitions and everyday utility. Perfectly comfy, the polyester speeds dry time, adds durability and keeps it lightweight.

We cant live without denim so we set out to make our own. The sweet spot: organic cotton, a little bit of stretch, sturdy but exible, current but not too trendy, wearable day in and day out. Offered in two washes: straight rinse for those who believe breaking in their jeans is an inside job, or enzyme wash for those who like a head start.

We call it Mlange because its a medley of similarly colored yarns that create a more pronounced visual texture than, say, heathered yarns. Bottom line: Our Mlange OC is 100% organic cotton goodness in a comfortable jersey knit of medium weight that is just what you want on your body most every day.

Hollow means light and a place to trap body heat so it insulates super efficiently with the least amount of weight. Perhaps its true best-in-show traits are a puppy-soft hand and greyhound-fast dry time.

Our low-maintenance Framework brings classic thermal knit back in a blend of down-to-earth organic cotton and hardworking poly. Mojo Flannel is for the brawny type that hugs trees rather than chops em down. The 100% organic cotton yarn-dyed oxford weave is durable and broken in for you with a good wash so it feels welcoming right off the rack. Sturdy in construction yet light enough to wear daily. Byway is a lightweight shirting thats both road trip-ready and casually dashing. It reads and feels like the favorite cotton youre always drawn to, but a dash of nylon shirks wrinkles and improves dry time, while a trace of spandex keeps it from looking too straight. For social versatility, we gave it lowkey stripes so you can pull up a chair anywhere.

Substantial and sturdy, this premium twill nails the intersection between work wear, street wear and get out there. Its mostly organic cotton because we love its natural comfort. We added a soft, peach nish so it feels great from the rst meeting and just gets better over time. Poly boosts durability and improves drying time. A hint of spandex for stretch makes it move beautifully.

This tropical-weight, core-cooling fabric is engineered to pick up the least amount of breeze with an open weave enhanced by the presence of slightly thicker yarns to lift it off your skin. Think of it as your personal organic cotton A/C system.

Ottomatic Stretch is canvas with an infusion of mojo. Like any good canvas, it works hard for a living, but unlike most canvas, it moves with you, thanks to a shot of spandex. The ottoman weave provides horizontal cords and rm character, and the organic cotton is brushed lightly for pure tactile pleasure.

The texture of this denim-like fabric draws you in. Then you see the pattern. Now youre hooked. Dobby Check is small-scale and personal so you can introduce the non-solid pants in your life without complicating things. MACHINO MERINO - 100% MERINO WOOL

Oh the praises of this wool! Its machine washable and so soft that wearing it next to skin is a pleasure, not a sentence. Perfectly attuned to the bodys heating/cooling mechanism, its also itchless, stinkless, naturally stretchy and adept at handling moisture. This low-maintenance wonder-wool will forever free you of the curse of owning a sweater that requires special care and feeding.

Its the bite of lime after a shot of tequila in a fabric. A slight pucker here and there adds life, dimension and avor to the subtle weave. Not extreme, but just enough to encourage texture that oats over skin and eliminate the need to iron forever. Organic cotton provides the lightweight twill, spandex provides the pucker.
