Are you in pain? Has this economy (or something else) made you nauseous? Are you fatigued by life? YOU may be candidate for Medical Marijuana in more ways than one. With over 14 states legalizing Medical Marijuana, Pot Cafes are one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. As states move forward in their attempt to legalize Medical Marijuana so that it can be regulated and taxed, many challenges face growers, distributers and dispensaries which have become a whole new cottage industry that Law Enforcement will have to monitor. Since marijuana can be grown just about anywhere, inside or outside, finding ways to monitor growers is going to be the greatest challenge of all. Portable Farms, Inc., is the first company in the world to provide a turn-key solution that provides security, Medical Marijuana in your home quality control, remote monitoring for county and state agencies, and a new way of growing that is about as green as you can get. Portable Farms Organic Aquaponics Medical Marijuana Systems can be customized by correctly sizing the growing space to limit production based on local regulations for year-round growing. Each facility can be monitored using video surveillance cameras, security scanners, and alarm systems. These innovative systems offer a model for both grower and law enforcement to achieve compliance. These new systems are now available from Portable Farms, Inc. and have been specifically designed for growing the finest organic medical herbs in a fully automated growing system . The units contain deeper grow trays for enhanced plant growth; they offer a scientifically based timed water-flow cycle to meet the unique growing requirements of marijuana. These new systems require fewer fish than a normal aquaponics system, and allow for a wider variety of fish to maintain maximum plant production and quality to ensure a high level of crop and blossom yield. A 10 x 12 unit can grow 36 plants to maturity during each 90-day growth cycle. Each 10 x 12 unit produces 4 crops per year. If a user is only allowed to grow a few marijuana plants at a time, the remainder of the growing area can be dedicated to other herbs such as lettuce, basil, and even tomatoes, etc. For those authorized to grow and sell to medical marijuana dispensaries, a grower, if allowed, can grow 36 plants (2.25 pounds at maturity) at a time. By using the low wholesale price of US$200 per ounce (US$7.14 per gram), and a yield of 144 ounces or 4082 grams (36 plants x 4 90-day cycles) with production of one ounce of product per plant, the gross profit will be approximately US$28,000. The systems are offered as Do It Yourself Kits from Portable Farms, Inc. and can save customers significant amounts of money on the initial installation costs. They also offer fully installed, turn-key installations anywhere in

Interested in Building Wealth Hello, This is Dudley Pierce Baker and I welcome you to take a serious look at two unique websites and investment services which I have assembled for investors around the world. My newest service, www.InsidersInsights.com is so simple. We track for you the insiders transactions basically on the Canadian resource shares. When I determine it is time to buy I issue Warren Buffet a BUY ALERT and perhaps even more importantly, I issue a SELL ALERT when I believe the time is right to exit the trade. This service was started in April 2009 and you can see all of our closed out positions on our homepage of which we are currently averaging over 120%.

US Tax Facts for Americans Living and Working Abroad

Subscribe to our newsletter Again, what subscribers love is the simplicity of the service; you just follow my lead and my alerts. We all know the power of following the smart money of corporate insiders and we are on top of the filings each day. In my first service, www.PreciousMetalsWarrants.com launched in March 2005, we present a detailed database of all warrants trading in the United States and Canada on companies in the natural resource sector. I have consistently added new features to the service over the years and it is now a site envied by many in the business. Everything to need to assist you in deciding which warrants, if any, to include in your portfolio. We provide a Warrant Summary, Ranking of Warrants and our proprietary leverage calculations for each warrant. As I like to say, Weve Done The Math You Pick The Company Lets first remember that warrants are merely one investment vehicle, albeit, an important piece that can greatly increase your overall investment gains in the years ahead. Even for myself, the value of warrants in my personal portfolio has rarely exceeded 25% and currently my warrant holdings represent 24% of my portfolio leading many subscribers to ask me what else I own? This was the incentive for me to introduce in April 2008 what I call, A Look Over My Shoulder which is my entire portfolio (over 80 positions), well organized, weekly audio comments, tracking of all Insiders Transactions and Charting of all companies. You may sign up for this service and it includes our great Warrant Database as well. See the Gold Subscription. Unsubscribe Here

Also our Gold and Platinum Subscribers receive access to all of the Insiders Insights data and alerts as part of their subscription. I realize many of you are asking, what the heck is a warrant? On our website, we have a complete Learning Center but lets just cover a few basics to get you started. If I told you, that you could buy up to a 5 year call on perhaps one or more of your favorite mining companies or energy companies, would you be interested? Who wouldnt? Can you imagine having the right, but not the obligation, to purchase the common shares of one of your favorite mining or energy companies with up to 5 years before expiration? As with options and LEAPS, we would suggest an allocation of no more than 10% to 20% of your portfolio in longterm warrants. This investment vehicle has been around literally for decades and has been overlooked by the investment community. Most of the analysts today do not even understand or take the time to understand the benefits of this investment. As the owner and editor of this unique investment service I have been referred to as the Commodities-Stock Warrants Guru by Adam Hamilton, owner of the popular Zeal Intelligence investment service. Public-traded warrants have been around for decades, maybe centuries, yet few traders are aware of them. I have to admit I had not thought about them since I learned about them in college finance classes. Then in early 2005, Dudley Baker came along. In early 2005 he decided to share his awesome database and ongoing research in a fantastic service that I highly recommend if you are interested in warrants. It is www.PreciousMetalsWarrants.com. Mr. Baker is now the worlds premier commodities-stock warrants guru. As far as I am concerned, he has achieved near omniscience in this fascinating realm . Over the last couple years, he has taught me much about warrants and greatly expanded my perceptions of the great array of warrants available for traders. Adam Hamilton July 2007 This did not happen by accident as my extensive knowledge of warrants goes back to the 1970s and my fascination with the writings of Sidney Fried and The R.H.M. Warrant Survey, a hardcopy newsletter and a popular read at the time. Sidney Frieds first book, The Speculative Merits of Common Stock Warrants (1949) is a rare and timeless educational tool for warrants and is the core of knowledge used by me in this service. Sidney Fried passed away in 1991 at the age of 72 and since 2005 I have used my cumulative knowledge of warrants which I learned from the master to educate and assist investors around the world. Of course you would.

I not only write about warrants but I put my money where my mouth is and currently have 24% of my portfolio invested in warrants. Your Best Option Is A WARRANT Would you be interested in an investment vehicle that offers: Increased Leverage Decrease your Investment at Risk (yes, thats correct) Time (much more time than options or leaps up to 7 years No margin Trades like a stock thru your brokerage account Incredible opportunities and choices Often overlooked by 90% of investors and analysts Of course you would be interested, who wouldnt? So, what is a warrant and why should you be interested? A Warrant is a security issued by a company which gives the holder the right, but not the obligation, to purchase the underlying stock at a specific price, within a specified time period. In essence, a Warrant is a long-term call option. Warrants are usually issued by a company in connection with a private placement or financing arrangement. Many of these Warrants remain privately held and do not trade in the open marketplace. Guide to Real Estate in Costa Rica Latest Ebooks

Unique Investment Strategies Used by Rich and Famous Investors | EFAM | Escape From America Magazine $20.00 Our service only covers Warrants which are traded on the exchanges and which can be purchased by you and me . As individual investors, our objective is usually to only trade the Warrant, not to exercise the Warrant. The Warrants trade, freely, just like the common stock. Currently there are many Warrants trading with expiration dates out to the year 2012-2014 and two which expire in 2017. Warrants expiring within, say, 2 years, while they may possess great upside leverage, also pose a greater risk. It is widely recommended for most investors to focus on Warrants with at least 2 years left before expiration date giving you more time to play this bull market. Remember, warrants, like options and LEAPS can expire worthless, so we are looking for warrants on our favorite companies with the longest remaining life possible. We want Time to be on our side. Why should I be interested? Increase your Leverage & Decrease your Risk Incredibly, warrants offer the investor the best of both worlds: increased leverage and a means to decrease your risk. Leverage: The reason most investors acquire Warrants is to increase their Leverage. Most investors are looking for at least a 2:1 ratio. In other words, if the common stock doubles (100%), we are looking for a minimum 200% move in the price of the Warrant. Risk: Another primary reason for buying Warrants, in lieu of the common stock, is to decrease your investment dollars and thus your risk all the while maintaining the same equity position. Allow me to share with you some of my personal trades in warrants: Some Examples of Past Performance Average Company Desert Sun Mining Wt Breakwater Resources Wt Metallica Resources Wt Yamana Gold Wt Silver Wheaton Wt A Rio Narcea Gold Wt Cost Basis $0.36 $0.19 $0.26 $0.396 $0.26 $0.267 Sales Price $4.48 $2.21 $2.95 $4.25 $2.10 $0.91 Profit $4.12 $2.02 $2.69 $3.85 $1.84 $0.64 Percentage Return 1144% 1063% 1035% 973% 708% 241% Tell us what you want EscapeArtists - Tell us what you want to see that you are not seeing: What articles would you like to see added? What questions would you like answered? We want to provide you with more of what you want to see. Expatriate Life in Singapore - $15.00 Living and Working in Portugal - $15.00 Living and Working in Nicaragua - $9.95 Living and Working in Malaysia - $20.00

All of these trades had one common denominator working in my favor: TIME The first decision always is selecting the underlying company and second, if there are warrants available, how much TIME is remaining on the warrants until expiration. When I purchased these warrants all of them had well over 3 years until expiry date. TIME was on my side, TIME was my friend, and TIME allowed the markets to ebb and flow while I maintained my positions and picked the right TIME to sell my positions for excellent profits. An incredible amount of money is being spent by the investment community in the promotion of options. Its almost impossible to visit any investment website and not see advertisements by brokerage firms and analysts encouraging the use of options. Why? They are making a lot of money off of commissions and selling you systems or investment strategies. The fact is investing is not the correct word as statistically we know that 80% to 90% of the time, individuals lose their investment dollars. Order Now The investing public and professionals of today are, for the most part, not aware of the enormous profit potential of warrants and thus absolutely nothing has changed since Sidney Frieds comments in 1949. By providing this website and learning center on warrants, we also are trying to educate the investment public and professionals to wake up to this greatly overlooked investment vehicle.

Unique Investment Strategies Used by Rich and Famous Investors | EFAM | Escape From America Magazine

Recently I was asked to write an article for Futures Magazine on warrants. Below is the link to the article on their website and we encourage you to consider being a regular visitor and subscriber to their magazine. How To Trade With Warrants Perhaps you are saying; Dudley I see the upside potential and increased leverage, but what about my downside risk? Good question, and the easy answer is that you can not lose more that the amount you decide to invest in warrants and you can control the same number of shares of one of your favorite companies with a much smaller investment. Let me show you this in an example (not a recommendation): Say, you like Goldcorp and the common shares are selling around $39 and you discover (of course through our warrants database) that Goldcorp has a warrant trading for around $4.50. If you are comfortable with the terms of the warrant, i.e., the exercise price and the length of time remaining until the expiry date, then perhaps you should purchase the warrant. If you purchased 1,000 shares of the common, it would cost you $39,000. Where as if you purchased 1,000 warrants at $4.50 for a total of $4,500, you still control the same position in Goldcorp saving yourself $34,500 in cash and limiting any loss to a maximum of $4,500. There are numerous advantages to owning this vehicle and virtually no disadvantages. So, why is there a disconnect? Personally, I have to sum up the lack of interest in warrants as merely a lack of knowledge and information. So many investors and professionals just do not take the time to investigate the incredible opportunities which warrants can provide. Precious Metals Warrants The Authority on Warrants But now, let me ask you a question. Where do you see the price of oil, uranium, gold, silver, copper, zinc, etc. in the next few years? If you follow many of the popular analysts/newsletter letters, i.e., Jim Dines, Doug Casey, The Adens, then you are already bullish on the commodity sector, particularly, gold, silver, oil and uranium. Most of these analysts are expecting gold to greatly exceed $1,500 per oz, possibly up to $3,000 to $5,000 per oz. We are also big believers in this continuing bull market in the commodity sector and are looking to achieve maximum gains by selectively purchasing long-term warrants on some of our favorite resource shares. Some investors will make a killing, if correctly positioned to profit from the rise in gold, silver, uranium, etc., the sky is the limit. many analysts. These analysts believe this bull can be bigger than the technology and internet bubble. Can you imagine? You cannot afford to be left out in the cold. But today, the important thing is to get invested NOW Order Now A Different Approach What if instead of buying the common shares of mining and energy companies, I could educate you in a few minutes on a different investment vehicle as I referred to earlier which will give you not only increased leverage but up to a 5 year call on many individual mining and energy companies. Would you be interested? So, allow me to share with you how I once again became interested in this exciting and extremely profitable and leveraged investment vehicle; warrants. In September 2004, while attending one of the Gold Shows in Las Vegas, I heard the highly respected Frank Holmes, Chairman of U.S. Global Investors (A family of Mutual Funds) make a brief mention of warrants. Well, that was the spark I needed to get interested in warrants once again. This is not just my personal opinion but that of

Unique Investment Strategies Used by Rich and Famous Investors | EFAM | Escape From America Magazine Upon returning home from the conference, I began researching for an investment service providing me the complete details on all mining and energy companies. Yes, there are warrants trading on companies other than mining and energy companies, but for me, my hot button and my belief in the current bull market was my only area of interest for warrants. Well, I could not find any company providing this service. As an investor I wanted to know ALL of the mining and energy companies with warrants. I enjoy making my own decisions but I needed the detail list of ALL companies with warrants. Sure, I knew a few of the companies with warrants, like Bema Gold, but I wanted to know ALL of them, from the biggest of the companies to the smallest. I would have paid any price to get this information but it did not exist in any form acceptable to me, if at all. It was obvious that if I was to have the information needed to make my investment decisions; then I was going to have to accumulate the information myself. and so I did. In March 2005, with the encouragement of several good friends, I launched Precious Metals Warrants providing not only myself but all investors interested in learning about warrants the opportunity to do so. To my knowledge, we are the only comprehensive source of this valuable information. Who Is This Guy? If you are wondering about my skills and background please visit my bio on our website. We are The Authority on Warrants and the leading source for information on warrants. In Conclusion Remember that some of the most savvy and respected professionals in the business, Warren Buffett, Frank Holmes, Martin Weiss, David Morgan, James Turk and Adam Hamilton, among others, agree that warrants have a place in an investors portfolio. This fact alone should peak your interest. Warrants Offer Great Leverage and Time (up to 7 Years) Decrease your investment dollars at Risk Trade like a stock Purchased thru your brokerage firm Most overlooked investment vehicle even by the pros You pretty much have our entire story of what we do and what we provide at Precious Metals Warrants with the opportunity for incredible gains, so why not subscribe NOW. Some schools are so understaffed that some teachers have up to eighty children in one classroom. And of the 8% of the population that ends up going to university, only 20% of those avoid failing out. Two words for you if you have school aged kids and you want to live in Hondurasprivate school. Since 1920, primary education in Chile has been free, compulsory, and nonsectarian. The adult illiteracy rate stands at 4.3% and is declining every year. 89% of primary-school-age children were enrolled in school, while 72% of those eligible attended secondary school. The government is even enforcing a program to try to make the country bilingual, and will begin mandating that students pass English exams. Chile has committed to increasing the percentage of its GDP on education, and recently went from 2.6% to 4.3%. Many students go on to university, and ten Chilean universities are ranked among the top universities in South America. Score: Chile 1, Honduras 0 Cost of Living Compared to other Latin American countries, Chile is by no means cheap. Especially when it comes to consumer goods like electronics and appliances, you should be prepared to pay much more than you would in the United States. For example, a generic brand DVD player, which you may not pay more than $40 for in the US, can easily go for over $200 in Chile. A basic, stripped-down computer will easily set you back $700. On the flip side, Chilean cities are among the cheapest in the world to live when it comes to buying a home. A study by Global Property Article Tags Africa Asia Subscribe to our newsletter

reasonable in the worldbut it definitely helps if your income comes from outside the country, as Honduras also has the lowest hourly wages for workers in Central America. Its not much consolation that groceries are cheap if you are making$3.50 per day, which is the national wage. Real estate deals are still to be had in Honduras. You can purchase a large home with a pool for as low as $50,000. Construction costs begin as low as US$15 a square foot. For a more substantial home made of concrete construction, youll pay closer to $25 a square foot on the mainland, and for the same house on Roatan in the Bay Islands, youll pay about $60 a square foot. On the islands, costs tend to be higher as goods need to be shipped in. Expats in Honduras have told me that it is possible to live like a king in Honduras for $1500 a month. While it is very possible to live in Chile off of this amount, your dollar will be stretched much further in Honduras. Score: Chile 1, Honduras 1 Health Care Health care in Chile is very advanced and state of the art on the high end. The national health care system provides basic medical service and coverage to all levels of society. Quality is however better at private clinics and hospitals around Chile, though even the most expensive private clinics are relatively affordable (at least by U.S. standards). Doctors are well trained and professional. Hospitals are run with national regulation of standards that meet or exceed international standards of care. Many drugs that require a prescription in the USA, such as insulin, do not need a prescription in Chile. If you can convey what you need to the pharmacist, then they will get it for you without you having to see a general practitioner. Private health insurance is easily obtained in Chile. Companies are well regulated and government mandates that they must accept certain preexisting conditions, while keeping overall cost down by creating a collective pool of catastrophic insurance coverage for all health care insurance policies. Selecting insurance policies often comes down to issues like do you want a private room covered by the insurance, not will they refuse to cover things like open heart surgery. There is also a program in Chile to allow foreign retirees in Chile to buy in to the Chilean public health care system based on a fixed percentage of their foreign pension or social security capped at around 7% of their income. This guarantees that all those living in Chile or moving to Chile have options for some form of affordable access to health care insurance. In Honduras, health services are not readily accessible to a majority of the population. An estimated 1.3 million Hondurans are without access to health care. In the isolated regions of Honduras, there are almost no physicians. The ratio of doctor to population has been as high as one to 1,510. Government clinics often are empty shells lacking adequate personnel, equipment, and medicines. In Honduras the quality of and access to health care are directly tied to income levels. Adequate health care is available to those able or willing to pay the for private care. For example, Honduras does have two decent private medical facilities, one in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, and one in San Pedro Sula. One expat shared that he recently saw three separate doctors, had a battery of blood work and tests done, plus a complete physical, and his bill was $300. So the cost is less than it would be in the States, but if you are relying on public care and medical care is important to you, there are better countries to move to. Score: Chile 2, Honduras 1 Climate The climate of Chile comprises a wide range of weather conditions across a large geographic scale, extending across 38 degrees in latitude, making generalizations difficult. Chile within its borders hosts at least seven major climatic subtypes, ranging from desert in the north (the Atacama is the driest non-Arctic place on earth), to alpine tundra and glaciers in the east and southeast, humid subtropical in Easter Island, Oceanic in the Patagonian south and Mediterranean climate in central Chile. There are four seasons in most of the country: summer (December to February), autumn (March to May), winter (June to August), and spring (September to November). Honduras is hot and humid almost year-round. Temperatures vary by altitude rather than season. The average high temperature nationwide is 32C (90F) and the average low is 20C (68F). Temperatures are coolest in mountain areas. The Caribbean coast can experience a lot of rain, the heaviest being from September to February, and the north coas can see average rainfall of 2400 millimeters. In Tegucigalpa, the capital, the climate remains more temperate and the dry season takes place from December to May. The capital can get chilly between December

Chile v Honduras | EFAM | Escape From America Magazine and January when the temperature in the city hovers around 23C (73F). Honduras lies within the hurricane belt, and the Caribbean coast is particularly vulnerable to hurricanes or tropical storms that travel inland from the Caribbean. For the variety of climate options available, plus the fact that Chile does not fall within the hurricane belt, I have to give this one to Chile. Score: Chile 3, Honduras 1 Ease and cost of buying real estate The Chilean real estate market has experienced a steady increase in property values across Chile over the last 10 years, while at the same time the Peso has also steadily strengthened against other World Currencies. Laws related to ownership of real estate in Chile by foreigners are applied the same as to Chileans, and are fair and predictable. There are certain exceptions to where a foreigner can buy real estate, such as in the case of national security areas close to the border of Argentina. For other situations, nationality or residency is not a consideration in owning property in Chile, although owning property in Chile does in no way provide any sort of residency. To make things simple for foreigners, you can buy and own property in Chile with simply a tourist visa, and even without ever physically visiting Chile. Everything can be done through a power of attorney, although of course it is recommended to physically check out any property you may want to buy. One thing to be wary of is that real estate agents in Chile are not regulated in any way. Anyone can be a real estate agent, and there is not certification. There are real estate agent associations, but they also have not responsibility or over site of the activities and practices. While there are certainly cheaper places in Latin America to buy real estate, Nuwire Investor recently stated that Chile is the number one investment destination in Latin America based on a combination of prices, economic stability and their booming economy. Buying property in Honduras can be a fairly simple process. Foreigners enjoy the same rights of property Tell us what you want EscapeArtists - Tell us what you want to see that you are not seeing: What articles would you like to see added? ownership as Hondurans and can purchase up to three-quarters of an acre as an individual, or more by forming a Honduran corporation. Title is held in the same manner as fee simple, or freehold. You receive an Escritura Pblica (publicly registered document) and, if buying in a corporation, you will hold bearer shares. Property taxes are low. Although some places are past their prime for finding deals, such as some of the coast or the islands, it is still possible to buy a decent house on the mainland for $50,000. An exclusive country club estate, boasting three bedrooms and being perched on the side of a mountain, strategically located right outside the temperate capital city, can set you back less than $200,000not saying that this is not a lot of money, but it is much less than what you would pay for the same thing in the states. HoweverU.S. citizens should be aware of the risks inherent in purchasing real estate in Honduras and should exercise extreme caution, particularly with purchases in coastal areas, on the Bay Islands and near international borders. There are many cases of disputed or fraudulent deeds and titles. In addition, the Honduran judicial system is weak and inefficient, often prolonging disputed cases for many years before resolution. There have been claims of widespread corruption in land sales and the registry and dispute resolution process. Squatter activity, spurred by earlier land reforms, has also been a problem. U.S. citizens have spent thousands of dollars in legal fees and years of frustration in trying to resolve property disputes, even in cases in which local attorneys and Honduran and U.S. real estate agents had given assurances to the investor. Investors should talk with other U.S. citizens who have bought property in Honduras and thoroughly check references and bona fides of attorneys and real estate agents prior to engaging in transactions. HmmmChile has higher prices but a more trustworthy, streamlined process. Honduras still offers great deals but with more inherent risk. I consider this a tie and do not give either a point. Score: Chile 3, Honduras 1 The Job Market Chile already has the most open, market-friendly economy in Latin America. The government has negotiated freetrade agreements with the United States, Canada, the European Union and South Korea in recent years, is in talks with New Zealand and Singapore. Many business people are very accustomed to working with American business people, and many speak English. The government even is implementing an aggressive program to make more of the population bilingual, as they hope to infiltrate more of the American market in the future.

Chile v Honduras | EFAM | Escape From America Magazine Getting a work visa is fairly straightforward, and unlike in Europe, Chileans are not as restricted on how many foreigners they can hire. In most circumstances, the Chilean Ministry Foreign Affairs will require that at least 85% of the Chilean companys workforce are Chilean nationals; however, this requirement is only in those companies where there are over 25 employees. Wages are decent, especially compared to other Latin American countries, but the work environment is much more Western, including longer work days and a more competitive work atmosphere than in some other parts of the world. In Honduras, I only hope that you run your own business or do not need to work to support yourself there. The average wage, for those that can actually find work, is just a little over $3 per day. Not per hourper day. Unemployment is high, and most of the available jobs come from the struggling agriculture industry. However, the government offers attractive benefits for those willing to boost the local economies. If you are involved with a government-approved tourism projectand that could be anything from a restaurant to a hotel to a souvenir shopyoull pay no income tax on your profits for 20 years. Even if you make $10 million, you will not pay one tax penny to the Honduran government in that time. In regards to other forms of business, foreigners are allowed to create, own and profit from a business on Honduran land. And the law provides them equal opportunity with public enterprises regarding market access, credit and other business considerations. And just think of how low your employee costs could be at $3 per day!!! Although Honduras offers investors some good perks, I think Chile gets this one for being all-around strong. Chile 4, Honduras 1 So, it looks like Chile came out way ahead on this one. But remember, there are an infinite number of other factors that you personally may need to consider. Honduras is much closer to the States if that is important to you. Chile is much more Westernized, complete with franchises and strong infrastructure, so if the more laid back, slow, rustic life appeals to you, Honduras just may be the place for you. experience or opinion? My first personal experience with runaway inflation happened in Poland not long after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. I was in Krakow for a meeting and told my local contact I would call when I arrived. I tried from the hotel but could not reach him, so I decided I would take in some local culture and call him from town. Now it may be hard for some of you to remember but these were the days before mobile phones so a pay phone was the most logical and convenient form of communication. After dinner I set out to make the call and asked the barman for change for the pay phone. He looked at me as if Id asked for a unicycle to go with a shot of motor oil. The inflation in Poland was such that there were no longer coins in circulation. There was only paper currency even though the pay phones only took coins. Not only did the phone company lose revenue that night, but I had to walk back to my hotel to make the call. A day or two later I was enjoying an espresso in the main square when church let out. In Krakow it is tradition that children throw coins into the fountain and From Russia With Gloves pray for a loved one after the service. Since there were no coins and not wanting their loved ones to suffer eternal damnation, they threw paper currency into the fountain. Shortly afterwards a church worker came over with a large wheelbarrow and fished out the prepaid salvation. quickly. I was reminded of this recently in, of all places, the gym in Punta del Este Uruguay. The boxing trainer there is quite a character. Everyone just calls him Polako, which is the Spanish way of saying The Polak. He was a non commissioned officer in the Polish Army when the Soviets stopped funding the payroll. After about six months without a salary, he and a couple of friends headed west looking for opportunity. In those days there was no EU so he was a tourist. When his visa ran out he happened to be in Marseilles. What does a soldier do when he runs out of money and his visa expires in Marseilles? Why he joins the French Foreign Legion. Naturellement, mon ami. After spending the bulk of his contract in Africa he left the Legion and relocated to the beaches of South America where he makes his living coaching boxers and wannabe boxers, bouncing at hot night clubs and working as a bodyguard for visiting Europeans. Not a guy you would expect to be well versed on the vagaries of international capital flows. Right? Au contraire, mon ami. While catching my breath after a tough workout, I was chatting with Hans. However bad you think it will be, it will be much worse and last much longer. Polako then went on to discuss the currency crises he has witnessed first hand. Poland, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Everyone, he explained, even the most pessimistic underestimated how far and how fast a currency can drop once people lose confidence. First it starts with the bankers then it spreads to the people. Polako then explained how the best way to preserve purchasing power is to buy real things. companies and analyzing political risk. His advice was, Everyone should own physical gold. Everyone should own some shares in the best big mining companies and if you really want accumulate multigenerational wealth when all hell breaks loose, build a portfolio of junior gold stocks. We tend to agree with him. Junior gold stocks are one of the best kept investment secrets because they are so volatile and hard to analyse that it isnt worth the time of mainstream brokers to study them. Another problem is that mining is a cyclical business and as a result of persistently low commodity prices for most of the last three decades it was a dead industry. No hot shot engineer or financier wanted anything to do with the industry. But the small mining companies that explore for gold offer the most spectacular leverage to the gold price. Those that do make a career out of learning the business really clean up when the gold price explodes. By leverage to gold we mean that for every $1 rise in the price of gold the shares of good junior resource stocks that have discovered economic deposits goes up several times. It is not unusual to see these shares go up several hundred percent in a few weeks once a discovery is announced. Then again it is not unusual to see these shares go to zero when the company spends all its money drilling holes in the ground that reveals little more than dirt and rock. We suspect that the junior resource sector will be the next mania once global currencies start to melt. We are not experts and it takes an enormous amount of work to separate the best junior resource companies from those that will go bust. Report. Bariloche, considered the gateway city to Patagonia, is a land filled with wonderful opportunities. It is not uncommon to spend your day walking amongst a forest void of others, taking in the setting sun on an empty beach as the sky flows through a rainbow of colors and finishing it off with a delectable seven-course meal that tempts the palate with treasures like empanadas stuffed with Patagonian lamb, hand-made trout filled raviolis in a wild mushroom sauce or crme brulee accompanied with homemade lavender ice cream. Although the intense beauty of the area is found outside of Bariloche, for those that like the hustle and bustle of city life, apartments located in el centro may be more suitable. Prices for a room start around US$300 a month. A private studio apartment with a lake view normally begins around US$600 a month to rent, and around $90,000 to purchase. Long-term rentals outside of town, in what is considered the kilometers, are a price-efficient option for leasing. The quality of housing is also usually higher in this area. The kilometers stretch out along the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi for approximately 25 kilometers. The main road bordering the lake is Avenida Bustillo. Off of Bustillo there are many different suburban areas that offer stores, restaurants, and comfortable housing choices. One or two bedroom houses go for around US$500 to US$1000 a month in the outer limits of city center. For those that would like to stay for an indefinite amount of time, or want a place of their own, buying is a great option. As of March, 2009, Resolucin 166-2009 has relaxed it requirements for foreigners buying property. Now title is automatically approved so long as the property is under 5,000 square meters of land (or 1.25 acres), located in a suburban or urban area and not used for commercial purposes (rental property is allow). This provides a great opportunity for those looking for real estate prices well below those found in the United States and Europe. For example, an opportunity not to be passed up that is currently on the market is a turn-key, income-producing property with excellent rental history. Located in the exclusive Llao Llao neighborhood on the famous Circuito Chico, this gem includes three houses all boasting exceptional views of Lake Nahuel Huapi, the Andes and the Chilean crest, individual parking and private atmosphere for $379,000. Where to work? The best way to make the most amount of money when living in Argentina is to work via computer or a job that offers long distance consulting, while earning a foreign currency. One of the benefits of living in Argentina is the exchange rate, making earning an Argentine wage not as attractive. If working from abroad is not possible, there are some other options. The easiest position obtainable for a foreigner is teaching English. This is especially true for those that are native United States English speakers, as there a shortage of teachers with the US English dialect. There are various schools around Bariloche that are looking for foreigners, such as the Hudson English Institute, Steps English School, Colegio del Sol and Colegio San Patricio. German is another language that is popular within the Bariloche school system. As noted earlier, Bariloche is the epicenter of some of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world. Due to this major expanse of wilderness, guiding work is another option if knowledgeable and proficient at particular sports, such as rock climbing, snow skiing, mountain biking, river rafting, fly fishing and hiking. There are various guide businesses throughout the area that are looking for bilingual guides. Another option in income possibilities is purchasing a rental property or properties. Bariloche is a booming tourist center, growing 23% in influx of foreign and Argentine travelers in 2007. The real estate market offers different options whether single house or multiple-structure property that can achieve positive cash flow. If able to give your time instead of having to earn an income, there are different volunteer efforts around the city. There are interactive school projects, orphanages, a humane society, and programs looking for people to teach English as a foreign language. La Montaa Spanish School, Fundacion Cruzada Patagonica and Patagonia School are different establishments that offer easy ways to become involved with the community. Where to have fun? Bariloche is truly the Mecca of outdoor activities. The Parque Nacional de Nahuel Huapi contains hundreds of hiking trails. The trails are all beautifully maintained single tracks that wander through the dense, green, old-growth forests. Many of the trails are interlinked by huts that are manned by a local resident. Fresh food, drinks and beds are offered in the various refuges. Some of the backcountry lodges offer thirst-quenching home-brewed beer, a nice finish to a long day in the mountains. Great cycling is also plentiful in Bariloche. There are multiple different excursions ranging in difficulty. One of the best single track trails in the world is located in the Parque Nacional de Arrayanes, outside of nearby Villa La Angostura. This is an amazing single track ride that wanders through thick forests and beautiful meadows. It ends at Lake Nahuel Huapi, amongst a grove of Arrayanes trees (the inspiration for the trees in Disneys Bambi, this particular area of Patagonia is the only place in the world that the orange and white barked tree grows). Another beautiful paved circuit is the Circuito Chico that follows the shores of Lakes Nahuel Huapi, East Moreno, and West Guide to Real Estate in Costa Rica $20.00 Latest Ebooks

B is for Bungy Jumping What is there to say? If you fancy leaping off a bridge with nothing between you and the river but a huge rubber band, go ahead! The idea originates from Vanuatu where young studs launch themselves from towers, attached to vines, to prove their manhood. Oxford Universitys Dangerous Sports Club began to experiment with the idea in the 70s and, soon after, a certain Kiwi called Mr. Hackett was inspired to throw himself off the Eiffel Tower. He went on to set up the first bungy site in Queenstown. There are now five located around the adventure capital practice your yodeling as you descend. In fact, why not go the whole hog and jump from a helicopter at 1000 feet its all the rage. C is for Caves The Coromandel Peninsula Spectacularly rugged, densely forested and with a coastline of such beauty it will bring tears to your eyes. Scoop out your own spa on Hot Water Beach or lay back and admire Cathedral Coves famous gigantic limestone arch. Dont miss the award winning Rapaura Watergardens a great spot for lunch and a walk, or to stay overnight. Article Tags Unsubscribe Here Email:

Getting to Know New Zealand: An A-Z Guide | EFAM | Escape From America Magazine D is for Doubtful Sound With eerily quiet fiords, abundant waterfalls and towering mountains, the waters seem fathomless, still as they are in this sheltered spot. Day and overnight cruises can be picked up from Manapouri (a cracking place to stay, with stunning views over its lake). Doubtful Sound actually boasts the deepest of NZs fiords at 421m. E is for Earthquakes Located where two tectonic plates meet, NZ is called the Shaky Isles. Small tremors are not uncommon. The last big quake was in 1931, levelling Napier on Hawkes Bay (East coast of the North Island). Many lives were lost. However, the town was rebuilt in the Art Deco fashion of the time and now attracts large numbers of visitors to its elegant streets. F is for Farewell Spit Nothing short of spectacular, this sandbar arcs out 35km into the sea making it the longest in the world. Its huge dunes create a protective coastal barrier, in the lee of which, migratory birds from Siberia and Alaska annually take refuge. 83 species of wetland birds have been recorded. On the side open to the ocean, waves crash dramatically against the never-ending shore line and seals often lollop onto the sands for a short sojourn. Drive a couple of miles down the road to Wharariki Beach (accessible via a 20 minute path through paddocks and coastal forest). Its littered with caverns and arches along its long stretch of sand and is another top seal-spotting location. G is for Glaciers Outside of the Polar Regions, no other glaciers come as close to the coast as do NZs Fox Glacier and Franz Josef Glacier on the South Island. Both are viewable from walkways near their feet but, from here, they appear rather dirty and disappointing. True enthusiasts take a heli-hike to see them in all their snowy glory further up. Franz Josef is, unenviably, the wettest town in NZ; in 1982, a staggering 2m of rain fell within 3 days. The Fox Glacier settlement has a prettier aspect and is a short drive from Lake Matheson (which mirrors Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman in its still waters). H is for Haka Loud chanting, aggressive arm gestures, stomping of feet and bizarre tongue waggling: its the haka! NZs All Black rugby team is famous for preceding each match with a rendition of this Maori war dance; its enough to have their rivals on the field quaking in their boots and the females in the stadium swooning in delight. Foreign visitors can easily seek out a night of haka entertainment, with local Maoris donning traditional dress and performing with zest since their tribal reputation is closely linked to their ability to perform the haka well. I is for .. The International Antarctic Centre Located close to Christchurch airport, its not to be missed. Recreating the atmosphere of Antarctica with video, interactive features and a replica of the Scott Base, itll have you hooked. Theres even a room of real snow and ice, with a constant temperature of minus 5 Celsius. You can slide down an icy slope, shelter in an ice cave and brave the wind chill machines frosty minus 18. Experience an Antarctic storm with stunning light and sound effects and 40 km/h gusts. Luckily, warm jackets and overshoes are provided. J is for . Jade Latest Ebooks You can buy jade amulets from the South Islands Hokitika or from the North Islands Rotorua. The Maoris traditionally carved the green stone into stylised figures with tongues sticking out fiercely in a warlike challenge representing power and fertility. Other motifs include monsters. Getting to Know New Zealand: An A-Z Guide | EFAM | Escape From America Magazine K is for Kiwi Birds About the size of a chicken and, despite being flightless, able to outrun humans, they are ever alert, with a super acute sense of hearing and smell. They can use their sharp, three-toed feet to kick and slash enemies but still make cute cuddly toys in NZs many gift shops. The men folk are in charge of incubation and nest maintenance for around 10 weeks, leaving them rather slimmer and hungrier by the time their chicks are ready to scamper off. In fact, the babies pop into the world as chips off the old block, ready to lead their own little kiwi lives after just 2 weeks. Its no surprise that New Zealanders are happy to have the kiwi as their national symbol: the birds are independent, tough and like to be left to their own devices. Sadly, possums and stoats are doing a good job of hoovering up unattended eggs and young chicks, leading to a dramatic fall in the number of birds making it to adulthood: from 12 million to less than 80,000 this year. One of the best places to see them in the wild is Stewart Island, which has the most diverse bird population in NZ. Watch out for kiwis which stray onto the beach much easier to spot on the white sands than foraging among the trees. New Zealanders have been calling themselves Kiwis since the First World War and the NZ dollar, which depicts this spunky bird on one side, is often just referred to as a kiwi. L is for Lake Tekapo Lake Tekapo has been blessed with a beauty found in only a handful of places around the world. Its dazzling turquoise hue is framed by thousands of lupins growing wild around its shores (dust from glacial rocks travels down to lend it this unique colour) and the Church of the Good Shepherd built in memory of early pioneers stands picturesquely beside its stony beach. Your camera will be beside itself with pleasure. M is for . The Moeraki Boulders Hundreds of giant spherical stones litter the windswept beach looking rather like meteorites or the eggs of some wayward sea-monster. Maori legend has it that they are food baskets swept from the canoes of their ancestors. Some are an immense 4m in circumference and around 65 million years old. These larger than life boulders have a curious geological history: created on the sea floor by a layering process similar to that seen in oyster shells, they became part of the coastal cliffs when the seabed rose. As the cliffs eroded, the balls of crystal tumbled down onto the sands. Theyre definitely worth a look. Moeraki also boasts its own yellow-eyed penguin sanctuary, a seal colony and a lighthouse. N is for Ninety Mile Beach Actually, its more like 56 miles but its a sight to be seen nonetheless. With so much open beach, its not difficult to find a spot to call your own. On windy days, the sand moves rhythmically before your eyes with a mesmerising rippling motion; on clear ones, the waterwashed beach mirrors the blue of the sky so effectively its as if the earth has disappeared altogether. This northern-most tip of NZ is home to varieties of plants and trees found nowhere else on the planet and certainly has a landscape that stands alone. The eagle-eyed may see a northern green gecko or a rare flax snail. A trip to Cape Reinga lighthouse is a must but, if you have time, why not try dune surfing, blo-karting (using a lightweight micro land-sailor), horse riding or surf casting (throwing your line straight over the lively waves). Although its a designated highway, driving your rental car along the sand isnt recommended unless you are happy to brave unexpected waves, hidden holes and quicksand while voiding your insurance; corpses of wayward vehicles can be seen half-buried in the dunes along the top of the beach. Luckily, its easy to join a bus group or a small 44 excursion for the day. If you do want to drive up, stick to the main road which is unsealed for the last 12 miles. Getting to Know New Zealand: An A-Z Guide | EFAM | Escape From America Magazine This slice of NZ in miniature is home to rare yellow-eyed penguins, Hooker sea lions, albatrosses and the ubiquitous fur seal as well as a host of birdlife waders in particular: herons, spoonbills and plovers. Cape Saunders headlands 250m high cliffs are romantically dubbed Lovers Leap and The Chasm and stunning, windswept beaches are found on its Pacific side; there are very few visitors even in mid-summer. Victory Beach has The Pyramids rocks resembling the ancient Egyptian monuments while Sandfly Bay is named for the sands which are blown up by the wind; the path takes you through banks of wild flowers, down 100m sand dunes (among NZs tallest). The panoramas along this picturesque coastline are unforgettable. Stay at Larnach Castle or rent a cottage with its own sea view. P is for The Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki Strangely enough, lots of rocks stacked upon each other like pancakes: 30 million years old and fabulous. An easy pathway takes you through this amazing phenomenon by the sea. Either side of high tide, water arcs up through the blowholes, giving you even more to oooh and aahh about. Utterly unmissable. Q is for Queenstown Otherwise known as Thrill City, it plays host to all those mad young things queuing up to cheat death. Living on the edge is a full-time occupation and, after a day spent simulating suicide, everyone heads to the bars to celebrate being alive with a cocktail or two. Not a place for quiet contemplation or anyone who likes wearing a suit. Middle aged visitors tend to escape to the restaurant atop Bobs Peak for an all-you-can-eat buffet extravaganza reachable from town via a rather quaint gondola which carries you up 450m. Views of the Remarkables compensate amply for the brain damage you may sustain from being trapped with the live band old Elvis numbers a speciality. R is for Rockets If you fancy being propelled round and round at 106mph in a rocket attached to a circular steel cable, theres probably something wrong with you. The innovative Kiwis have created yet another bizarre way to scare themselves silly: the Fly By Wire. The rocket is made of premium grade aircraft material and is located in a spectacular canyon near Queenstown the cables bolted into the gorge walls. Anyone over 15 can sign up to experience the latest in extreme sporting madness: head-turning red flying suit and goggles supplied at no extra charge! S is for . Sheep With ten sheep to every New Zealander, its not hard to find a rack of lamb on the menu. 48 million of them freely roam the hills and dales, munching on lush green grass; its a sheepy idyll. To see them in action, visit Rotoruas Agrodome the bleating stars strut their stuff on the woolly catwalk as we learn who produces the best wool for carpets, wigs, suits or sweaters and who gives us the tastiest chops. One hapless sheep delivers itself to a public shearing, leaving it looking like a skinny supermodel sans fur coat. Dont forget to swing by the gift shop youll be grateful for a nice lambs wool polo-neck once you hit those mountains; it might even put an unexpected spring in your step. T is for Mt. Taranaki Often likened to Japans Mt. Fuji, it sits broodingly at the centre of beautiful Egmont National Park, dominating all around it. Most of the time, its peak is shrouded in cloud. On the rare occasions that its revealed in its full glory, it exerts such magnetism that it can be hard to look away after all, where else should one look when a 2518m dormant volcano rears up before you? U is for . Umbrella It does rain quite a lot in New Zealand especially during their winter. Fiordland sees the greatest volume of rainfall and the West Coast the greatest number of rainy days. So, dont forget your umbrella!

V is for Volcanoes Rotorua sits on the edge of a volcanic crater. It may smell foul but this mud-spewing gate to hell may be your idea of heaven. Dipping a toe in the Devils Bath isnt an option unless you want to cook yourself like a lobster. Steamy lakes of killer stew seethe and simmer, so keep carefully to the paths or you may find yourself the final ingredient in the acidic broth. Some like it hot scaldingly hot. Its not all demonic though; the greens, yellows and oranges of the sulphuric mix are deliciously jewel-like. Dont forget to pop along to watch the Lady Knox Geyser erupt each morning at 10.15am, courtesy of a dose of washing-up liquid. W is for Wine NZs Sauvignon Blanc is well-known as the worlds finest but there are plenty of other varieties to take your palette to new heights of ecstasy. The Hawkes Bay Region boasts 75 wineries (34 with open cellar doors). Designate a driver and start your tour with the aid of a Wine Trail Map. Early February is a great time to go during Harvest Festival. The South Islands Marlborough Region is also a prime spot for indulging. Wine buffs will be in 7th heaven. Visit the countrys northern-most vineyard on the Karikari Peninsula, just down the road from the Carrington Resorts top golf course, 5 star luxury and a Michelin starred chef. Buy your bottles and drink them en-route or have them shipped home; just remember, its all for the greater glory of NZ. X is for Xena The NZ TV hit Xena: Warrior Princess may have ceased production in 2001 but its memory lives on. It ran for six seasons and left fans in mourning when feisty Xena hung up her leather bodice and booties. Athletic Auckland-born Lucy Lawless played the lead with gusto, enchanting viewers in more than 115 countries. Decades of re-runs are no doubt ahead. Y is for Yellow-eyed Penguins Penguins may teeter along like tipsy olde-world butlers on land but the little cuties sure can swim. Our love affair seems to be going from strength to strength, fuelled by regular offerings from the film industry. Of the worlds 17 species of penguin, 6 live and breed in NZ, with rare yellow-eyed penguins easily viewable along the South Islands east coast. Blue (aka Fairy) Penguins are found at Oamaru, Doubtful Sound and on the Banks Peninsula near Christchurch while the Erect Crested Penguin is sometimes to be seen off the Otago coast in the late summer. The Fiordland Crested Penguin is among the most timid; it breeds along the rugged coastline of New Zealands Fiordland and on Stewart Island. The Eastern Rockhopper is more difficult to spot, as it lives on New Zealands sub-Antarctic islands: Campbell, Auckland and the Antipodes. Enthusiastic youngsters are occasionally seen swimming around NZs mainland. The Snares Crested Penguin has a distinctive yellow crest from the base of its bill which extends over its eye and droops down the back of its head. It only breeds on Snares Island and no tourist landings are permitted; however, you can watch the penguins swimming and waddling onto shore from your boat. Z is for Zorbing To zorb or not to zorb, that is the question. Moreover, do you get wet n wild with a squirt of washing-up liquid and a bucket of water inside your personal bubble or do you opt for the dry run. The latter involves strapping yourself into the giant plastic ball and tumbling head over heels down the slope; weigh your chances of emerging covered in vomit. The slippery option allows you to slide around the zorb; bring your friends and share the laughter. Ads by Google New Zealand 3D New Zealand Expat Panama Expat Mexico

There are increasing numbers of Americans who are not only emigrating to other countries, but are renouncing their American citizenship as well. This trend has not been widely reported, but the coverage by mainstream publications such as the NY Times and Time Magazine of this growing practice indicates that this is not merely a passing phase. However, the major media has diverted attention on the economic rather than the political reasons for people fleeing the US.

It has now become common knowledge that the Federal Reserve Bank is not a part of the US government and is in fact controlled by a handful of banking families who have been at the helm of the US Ask yourself, do you want to be an expat or a refugee? economy for several generations. This was successfully kept from the attention of Americans by the corporate controlled media and only recently has come to light due to the efforts of Rep. Ron Paul and the late Arron Russos film, America, From Freedom to Facsism . Previously, those who attempted to bring this issue to light were dismissed as fringe groups or anti-government whackos. Now that the world has become aware of this fraud of near Biblical proportions, it is the opinion of many that it is now only a matter of time before countries like China pull the plug of financial support through the purchase of US bonds and treasury notes. When that happens, the domino effect will be world wide and the epicenter of this economic tsunami will of course be the US. Many trend forecasters such as Gerald Celente, Jim Rogers and Max Kaiser have been predicting the inevitability of economic collapse and revolution for years and as such have been dismissed just as those who screamed FED fraud for decades. The absence of any political reference as being the fuel for the fires of expatriation is akin to the saying, The silence is deafening. Economics and politics are inescapably tied to one another, so to place the blame of an increase of expatriation exclusively on economics and ignoring the political scene should be seen as suspicious at least. Not so long ago the United States was the most admired and respected country in the world, and held this status for years. Perceived by many as a protective big brother, numerous governments welcomed US companies with open arms in the hope of being able to ride on their economic coat tails. The political price for doing so was not recognized until years later, and is now seen for what it is and what it was meant to be a trap from which there is no escape! Economic influence and control leads inevitably to political influence and control. This is not an opinion. It is a fact, and can be clearly seen and understood by anyone who takes the time to check historical records. The dilemma that has arisen by the advent of multi-national and international corporate control over national economies is that these corporations have no allegiance to any one country. Corporations are almost like a new man made life form that has no concern for peace, progress, prosperity or people. Corporations feed only on profit and anything that is not profitable is seen as a liability and is eliminated as waste. This is a moral issue that manifested in the past several decades as these corporations saturated many western economies. Many of the participating countries have been transformed into economic, corporate junkies whose labor forces now cannot survive without absolute reliance and compliance with corporate policy and control. Ask yourself could this corporate Borg be the Great Satan that many middle eastern nations refer to when they refer to countries like the US or the UK? After all, it is now recognized world-wide that the military industrial complex is driven by the same corporations that have spent untold billions to lobby and influence governments to do their bidding. Indeed, many people are recognizing that their tax dollars are being used to pay for war efforts that feed the corporate beast and fuel hostilities to the hosting countries, but this is secondary to the concern of basic survival of unimaginable hardships to follow. Because most, if not all of these corporations are all tied to the Federal Reserve, it is not rocket science to figure out that when (not if) the FED and the US dollar fails, the corporations will follow suit (hence the too big to fail philosophy). Many ex-pats foresaw the likelihood and inevitability of this scenario and factored this into their decision to find a place where survivability will be easier than remaining in a country that could become ground zero. If the above stated facts are understood by those who are considering emigrating to another country, it would be wise to consider countries whose reliance on western food supplies commodities and economics are minimal. As the prospective ex-pat begins to take on board these hard to accept concepts and undeniable facts, it is less difficult to understand the prospect that waiting until the first domino falls will determine ones status as a refugee rather than an ex-pat. Surely its better to be a year too early than a day too late. For those of you considering the possibility of leaving your country, you may want to research and consider issues other than simply trying to reduce your tax burdens. If history repeats itself as it often does, and a Weimer Republic scenario is in the cards for the US and all other countries joined at the hip to its doomed economy, it should be a matter of survival rather than an economic hardship that provides impetus and motivation to escape from America before it is too late. Ask yourself, do you want to be an expat or a refugee? About the author: Dave vonKleist is an activist/musician and a broadcaster for 30 years. Invariably, when North Americans visit Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, they have such a good time under absolutely ideal conditions, that they hate to leave. Upon returning home, many start planning their next trip to Vallarta and can only dream about retiring here someday. The fortunate ones, either currently retired or about to retire, often start thinking about how they can own a piece of Vallarta and spend at least a part of their retirement in Paradise.

Bid & Buy Your New Condo

which is most appropriate for you - a condo or villa?

Now is your chance to make an offer On a new NYC luxury condominium

Many visitors interested in pursuing the idea of retiring in Vallarta will rent a condominium during their first extended stay, and while doing so, will experience all the benefits Vallarta has to offer, and will explore the market for condos and/or villas. Once they have determined that Vallarta will be their full time or part time retirement destination, they are ready to start considering which is most appropriate for them, a condo or villa. There are certain aspects of condo and villa ownership that are constant; for seven months from November through May, the climate will be ideal, there will be numerous activities to enjoy and an abundance of friends to enjoy them with, and every condo or villa will have a panoramic, breathtaking view of the Banderas Bay and the Sierra Madre mountains. The following discussion is to address the differences between condo and villa ownership. Email: The first variable that most consider is the percentage of time expected to be spent in Vallarta each year. For those planning full retirement in Paradise, a villa with staff might be the best choice; association fees are minimal, there are no neighbors or renters upstairs, value appreciation is most favorable, furniture and personal items can be shipped into Mexico making living conditions more similar to back home, and most importantly, the old house in the US or Canada can be liquidated, thus freeing up the capital for retirement and travel. Those planning part time residency in PV might favor condo ownership; they will be close to many of the restaurants, shopping areas, and activities, they will be able to turn the key and forget about it at the end of the high season, they will have an opportunity to generate rental income while away, their maintenance expenses will be minimal, and they will retain their permanent family residence back home. The second variable to consider would be the number of friends & family that might be expected to visit each year. When you live in Paradise, youll be amazed at how many dear friends you had back home! Of course, the smaller the condo, the fewer dear friends youll have. Whereas, if you own a grand villa, youll have more dear Article Tags Unsubscribe Here

friends than you ever knew you had. The third variable has to do with the age and health of the retiree. A younger retiree might favor a villa where he can call it home, living there as he would in any permanent residence, without having that temporary or transient feeling. Also, since most of the villas are located on the mountainside, they are usually multi-story and involve stairs, thus presenting obstacles for those less fit. Maintenance of a villa requires much more time, effort, and money and therefore, to many of the older or less healthy retirees, it alone might rule out villa ownership. Typically, the older retirees find the advantages of condo life outnumber those of villa ownership, whereas the younger retirees with many healthy years ahead of them, prefer villa ownership. Due to the ever increasing cost of land, as a rule of thumb, you can use an average cost per square foot for a villa of $250, whereas the average cost for a condo would be a little less, at $200 per square foot. Of course, there are many properties in Vallarta that sell for substantially less, however, were only considering those with magnificent views and all of the modern amenities. On the surface, these prices may seem high, however, similar properties with comparable views would be two to three times as much in the States. Furthermore, association fees are much less and property taxes are negligible in Mexico. An additional consideration that every retiree must have relates to real estate future values. In Mexico in general, and in Puerto Vallarta specifically, there is no housing slump or fear of recession, as prices continue to escalate at a rate of 10% or more per year. All properties, whether condos or villas, are purchased through 50 year trusts, held by a designated bank. These trusts give the holder exclusive right to property usage for 50 years and can be renewed after 50 years, can be given to a designated beneficiary upon death and then renewed for another 50 years, or can be sold, allowing the buyer to renew the trust for new 50 year term. These bank trusts are as safe as the title and deed used in the States or Canada; plus, since they are Mexican bank trusts, they are virtually untouchable by any outside entity. Since all real estate legal transactions in Mexico are done in Spanish, it is imperative that the buyer is represented by a qualified attorney. Also, much of the Mexican coastal land is classified as ejido land, and as such, was designated by the Mexican government many years ago to be used by the natives as farm land. North Americans are unable to purchase some of this beautiful coastal land and therefore, any North American retiree considering real estate ownership in the Vallarta area, must have competent representation to assure them that the land is appropriate for foreign ownership. Due to the differences in laws and language, an exclusive buyers agent is a prerequisite in order to avoid the potential pitfalls associated with real estate purchases in Mexico. Having a truly professional agent with 100% buyer dedication and loyalty will assure you a safe and pleasant real estate purchase, regardless of whether youre buying a condo or villa in Paradise. About the author: Jim Scherrer has owned property in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for 25 years and resided there for the past eleven years. The mission of his series of 50 articles pertaining to retirement in Puerto Vallarta is to reveal the recent changes that have occurred in Vallarta while dispelling the misconceptions about living conditions in Mexico. Tips about where you can live well on a tight budget, and ideas for making your retirement income go further overseas I recently read an article in the British press that suggested a married couple in the UK would need to build up a retirement pot of at least 600,000, (circa $920,000), if they wanted to retire relatively comfortably. I dont know about you but I think 600,000 seems like an incredibly huge amount of money to work towards saving, no matter how young you start a pension! If youre concerned that your retirement savings wont stretch to afford you a decent standard of living in America, or you want to get more for your money by moving abroad in retirement, this report has been researched and written with you in mind. The cost of living in countries like Great Britain and America is high so its no wonder that we need a lot of money to retire on if we want to remain living in such nations. But not all countries in the world have such high prices placed on everything from health to housing there genuinely are places in the world where it is cheaper to live, and where the standard of living is high, affording you a decent way of life and meaning you dont have to compromise. You may be thinking about a retirement abroad because youve always fancied travel, you dream of living in a tropical climate or you just want to get out of the country youre in. Or, perhaps youre in a position where you feel change is being forced upon you in the form of relocation overseas because you know you cannot afford to remain living in the country youre currently in. Either way, whats important to know is that its an absolute fact, you can have a very good life living overseas and so a move abroad should be looked upon as an adventure, and planned carefully to ensure success. Where in the World Are Homes More Affordable? If you currently own your own home and you want to sell it to buy real estate abroad when you retire, you can take your pick of continents because I assure you, there are plenty of places left in this world where a house or an apartment is an affordable commodity in relative terms. Depending on which sources you trust, at the peak of the housing bubble in America the average sales price for a home reached between $230,000 and $300,000 now assuming sales prices have fallen back and perhaps you dont live in whatever constitutes the average home in Article Tags Africa Asia Unsubscribe Here Subscribe to our newsletter

America, lets assume you have between $75,000 and $100,000 to put into real estate overseas. For your budget youll likely be pleased to know you have vast choice. You could choose a villa in Turkey on the Mediterranean coast surrounded by stunning views and enveloped in glorious sunshine for much of the yearor perhaps a condo in Mexico would suit you more, allowing you to be more accessible to your old home haunts? If youre prepared to venture further south youll find homes in the likes of Costa Rica, Belize, Argentina and Brazil for lessor if you want the history and culture of Europe then what about Portugal or even Sweden? A good and detailed real estate search on the Internet, restricted only by your budget, will reveal to you a whole world of opportunity currently out there and perhaps open up your mind to nations youve never even heard of or know very little about. So, if youre not sure where you want to live, why not let your budget guide you. Find real estate you like the look of, and then explore the realities of retiring to the nation in which the property is in. Alternatively, if you have a fixed idea about the country youd like to live in, remember that the further away you are from centers of tourism and business, the cheaper real estate will become. This is simply because property is worth less, as is the land it sits upon because it is less in demand and this can mean you get more for your money the further youre prepared to step off the beaten track. So even if your country choice is considered expensive, you may well find an affordable property if you dig deep and go beyond the obvious communities where expatriates gather. If that doesnt take your fancy one bit and instead you actually like the idea of moving into a ready made community abroad, where you know youll meet like-minded people of a similar age and perhaps even from a similar background, making your integration even easier, what about looking into retirement communities overseas. From Australia to Wales, Greece to Mexico there are dedicated retirement communities abroad where you can buy in for the duration of your lifetime, and live in luxury surrounded by new friends and also care and support from professional staff. With the concept originating in America and now spreading worldwide, you can potentially find a home within a neighborhood thats secure and maintained. Alternatively, gated style residential communities are becoming more common around the modern world too, offering you secure living but without the retirement centric, supportive environment. Where in the World Can You Afford a Better Lifestyle? The cost of living is always relative, in terms of affordability, to that which local people earn therefore, if youre limited in your budget, you need to look at where actually your budget is worth an awful lot more than it may be in mainland America. This doesnt mean you have to look at the most impoverished places in the world! Far from it! Countries like America and Britain are overburdened by taxation and social care programs, they require one to pay out for health care in the form of private insurance or National Insurance and as a result, ones money is restricted in terms of how far it will stretch because of policies that one has no control over. If you look to countries where the economy works differently, youll quickly realize that there are places in the world where you will taxed far less and even have to pay much less for essentials such as medical care. Countries such as Costa Rica and Argentina become affordable at this point, as does Mexico. Or what about nations such as Belize, Malaysia and Thailand where there are retired persons incentive programs that make it cheaper and easier for you to live in such countries once you hit retirement. You may even be able to live in them 100% tax-free legitimately. Considerations you need to keep in mind when looking for an affordable place to live include the amount it will cost you to physically relocate there, what your month to month tax obligations may be, how much you will have to pay out for any insurances from medical to earthquake and then what basic and essential groceries and foodstuffs cost on average. There are many forums where those who have expatriated already gather to chat, and in such forums youll find valuable information about what the cost of living is really like for retired Americans. Be sure to check out every day costs in person before you commit to relocating if you can. Spend an extended holiday in your chosen retirement destination getting to know it as a potential resident rather than a perpetual holidaymaker! How on Earth Can You Make Your Retirement Income Go Further? Having found the right country to live in and an ideal home for your retirement, the final issue to tackle is making sure you can stretch your pension income far enough to sustain your lifestyle every single month. You might like to consider your options for topping up your pension with part time work after all, once you move overseas all sorts of new opportunities could arise.

Dont Let a Lack of Money Be an Obstacle to Your Retirement Abroad | EFAM | Escape From America Magazine $20.00 You may find you have a knack for teaching and your language abilities alone make you into a desirable teacher or perhaps you have professional skills you can offer to local companies or through advising or lecturing. Maybe a hobby youve always enjoy as a distraction from work could earn you an income abroad or would you consider going back to what you have always done but in a part time capacity in your new country? All these options mean youll be earning more and therefore youll have more reserves to play with each month. But if working isnt an option you can or want to consider, the management of your day-to-day money will be key to your long-term financial success. Budgeting will be central to you managing your money effectively; you therefore need to work out your essential costs each month and meet them but dont go over them. You can save and reinvest any money you dont spend, taking advantage of any improved interest rates perhaps available abroad for example. Shop around for goods and services just as you would in your old home nation and learn to haggle like the locals do! In most countries it is totally acceptable to make an offer below the asking price particularly when it comes to big ticket items. And in some nations its even normal to haggle at the market when youre doing your weekly shop! Talking of shopping, look at how the local people shop. Whilst you may be used to everything being cheaper and easier in the hypermarket back home, overseas it may be the case you should go to specialist food sellers to get given items, and shop at the weekly or daily market for most produce. If you build up a relationship with store owners, after a while they will almost certainly see you right when you continue to shop with them! This can have the effect of your grocery bill going down in terms of costs each month. In Conclusion Its an absolute fact that our money can take us far further if were prepared to consider retiring overseas and that retirement abroad can provide us with a high standard of living in a beautiful home and a fabulous environment. Finding and securing such a life for yourself does of course require dedicated effort in the form of research and planning for example, but the benefits are definitely worth it.
