Installation Notes
The DIgSILENT license server is a program that provides license information for all DIgSILENT clients of a computer network. The only dongle requested is the network dongle, which must be located at the computer, where the license server will run. All DIgSILENT clients must have write access to one directory on this computer's hard disk. Installing DIgSILENT License Server: 1) Run SETUP.EXE from CD-ROM main directory 2) Select Install Network License Server 3) Attach your license server dongle to the parallel port of your computer 4) Start the License Server from the Windows program menu Installing DIgSILENT License Server as a service on a Windows NT system: 1) Install the license server as described above. 2) Log on Windows NT as administrator, enter a DOS Box, change to the directory, where the license server is located on your hard disk and run the service installation program diglsvc.exe. install: diglsvc /i deinstall: diglsvc /d 3) Start the service the first time, using the Windows NT control panel or reboot. The service will automatically be started during system startup. How does the DIgSILENT License Server work: The DIgSILENT program (client) will communicate with the license server via binary files written to the license server working directory: 1) The DIgSILENT client will create a request file (*.req) 2) The license server will answer by creating a user license file (*.use), the request file will be deleted 3) If the number of users is UNLIMITED, the user license files (*.use) will be deleted immediately after the client has read the file 4) If the number of users is LIMITED, the DIgSILENT client will check temporarily, if the license file exists and will delete at the program end the license file himself. So the number of (*.use) files corresponds to the number of users, currently working with DIgSILENT (as shown in the License Server About Box). If the number of license files is greater or equals to the maximum number of users, the license server will not respond ! Unused license files (e.q. from killed DIgSILENT clients), may be deleted manually. The license server will delete at the program end ALL license files ! Attention: A clients will change to demo version, if his license file was deleted. Hint: The DIgSILENT About Box will show the current license file name. DIgSILENT client: The DIgSILENT client must fullfill the following conditions: 1) The client must have WRITE ACCESS to the license server working directory. 2) He must select the item Dongle in Network in the User Settings dialog on the installation page, and he must select the license server working directory in the same dialog. Running DIgSILENT License Server: The license server is like the DIgSILENT program a 32bit application, so it cannot run under Windows 3.x (16bit). Start the license server via the start menu or with a double click on diglise.exe in the file manager. The license server has two options, which can be modified by editing the file diglise.ini: 1) Refresh time t in ms (default 1000ms=1s, max 10000ms=10s): minimal response time: the license server will write license files all t ms (if the Sound menu item is checked, the license server will beep every time the directory is read) 2) Working directory (default: subdirectory Run) read request files from and write user license files to this directory Hint: The network dongle can not be used as a local dongle for DIgSILENT. It can be accessed only using the license server !
