Sanitary Design
Lowe Sanitary Equipment is commonly used in industries where sanitary is of primary concern and processing equipment hygiene requirements are necessary. Our mixer and blender designs lead the sanitary industry with efficient mixing technology, thorough clean-out between batches and minimal long-term maintenance.
Sanitary Equipment
Cleanability
A major feature of Lowe Sanitary Equipment is its cleanability and wash down capabilities. Cleaning-In-Place (CIP) and Sterilization-In-Place (SIP) are systems designed for automatic cleaning and disinfecting with out disassembly and assembly. This is important to many industries where the processing must take place in a hygienic or aseptic environment. Fluid-driven trough vessel nozzles as shown below are especially suited for CIP systems. No motor source is needed due to the reactionary force of the cleaning liquid to rotate the spray head. Spray angles range from 180 to 360 to meet most application needs. Due to their low impact and ability to withstand cleaning chemicals, they are best suited for final rinse or sanitation applications. They can be calibrated to a variety of flow rates and pressures to achieve the required impact. Other features include: Rotating and fixed designs Sanitary lances Reduced water and chemical use High-impact cleaning which eliminates post-cleaning tests.
Hygienic Design
Our stringent, quality control system complies with the following ISO 14159 design features below: Product contact surfaces Metals Non-metal parts Non-product contact surfaces Surface texture Cleaning & inspection Disinfection, pasteurization and sterilization Microbial ingress Draining Dead spaces Joints Coatings Internal angles, corners and grooves Seals, gaskets, O-rings and joint-rings Fasteners Process flow disruption caused by intrusions Shafts and bearings Sensor and sensor connections Opening & covers Insulation Supports Product contact with machinery fluids
Finish
Any components for which there is a 3A standard will be employed in the finished product.
Internal surfaces are polished to a minimum #120 grit finish with no cracks or crevices to trap product. The agitator components are welded and then ground smooth with free flowing, curved surfaces to allow easier cleaning. Split seal housings are removable without tools for easy removal and
inspection. Structural components are available in stainless steel for use in wash down environments.

The Fabrication and Machining Distinction that Makes Lowe Sanitary Equipment Second to None
Agitators
Lowe agitators are hand crafted and precision machined to provide efficient mixing action utilizing continuous inner and interrupted outer ribbon flighting. Paddle designs are also available. Lowe agitators feature solid mainshafts that are machined to provide minimal run-out through the seal area. Plate spokes are used for ribbon supports and include large radii welds to the mainshaft for ease of cleaning.
High-Speed Choppers
Lowe High-Speed Choppers are ideal for incorporating and dispersing minor ingredients, reducing agglomerates or cutting in shortening or oil into bakery mixes. Choppers operating at 3600 RPM are used to provide controlled amounts of high shear to the product. Lowe Choppers feature a split-shaft extension for ease of maintenance and a variety of cutter-head designs. Choppers can be used on both ribbon and paddle agitator designs.
Bearings
Heavy-duty, pillow block bearings are used with each Lowe Sanitary Equipment blender. Bearings are typically mounted on stainless steel support plates. Mounting holes in the bearing housings are capped with machined plates to avoid pockets where contaminants may be trapped.
Discharge Valves
Covers/Hoods
Lowe Blenders are available with a variety of custom cover designs. Features such as bar-style hinged covers, hinged bag dumps and hinged hood assemblies allow complete access for equipment wash down. Hinged hoods are equipped with locking pneumatic or electric actuators. Access openings are protected with safety grates and limit switches. Ingredient inlets are offered in flanged or sanitary weld ferrule connections with all configurations designed and built for specific installations.
Split Seals
Discharge valves are custom fabricated for each blender. The popular paddle valve features a minimal pocket between the trough of the mixer and the valve. The valve has a mechanical seal that works well for throttling products and closing against material flow. Paddle valves are not recommended for liquid applications. The valve disc and lever actuator are removable for cleaning and maintenance. The following types of valves are also available: butterfly, ball, slide gate, hinged contour, flush plug, roller, contour slidegate and spherical disc valve.
Split seals are fabricated from 304 or 316 stainless steel. The seal mounting plates and housings are machined as match sets. The follower plates are machined to a tolerance of .025 greater than the diameter of the mixer shaft. The split housing design simplifies cleaning for applications requiring high levels of sanitation. Either UHMW or food grade TFE V-rings are available with lantern rings for air-purge capabilities.
Trough Assembly
Lowe Blenders are offered in sizes ranging from 2 to 325 cu.ft. capacity. Typical construction features include 304 or 316 stainless steel contact surfaces, continuous sanitary interior welds and the option of carbon or stainless steel exterior structural components. Split sanitary stuffing box shaft seals are standard with optional mechanical seals available. During final assembly, all welds are chemically passivated and the mixer is brushed to a high-luster finish.
