Adam Reishus Nabil Salehiyan Gabe Wyland Process Paper- The Manhattan Project Our group got together

to decide what topic we would be using in our project, using the list of examples as a reference. We narrowed down two topics that we felt we could do a good job on, the Manhattan Project and the American Idian movement. We chose the Manhattan Project because we are currently juniors taking physics classes and the atomic bomb does relate, also the idea of a top secret government project intrigued us because the government today could probably pull of something of the same magnitude. To gather information at first our group simply used the internet to learn more about our topic. Later we read a couple articles, books, and primary source documents to get an even deeper knowledge of what we were going to be building our project on. We have three members of our group to whom conducted individual research. Gabe was in charge of the actual dropping and descruction caused by the atomic bomb as well as how the decision was made. Nabil covered the physics of the bomb in terms of how it worked as well as the secrecy betweeen the scientists and their research. Lastly I took the area of what lead to the decision as well as reasons why the decision was made to go forward with the plan. Our group concluded that a website would be the best way to display the information that we found. All of our group memebers are adequatly proficient in the use of modern technology so we felt it would be relatively simple for us to accomplish this task. Another reason why we chose to construct a website is because we have done a website before for National History Day two years ago when we were freshmen, remembering this we felt comfortable in this field. We created our project using the website provider, weebly as instructed, Gabe led the website creation as he was the best at it.

Our project relates to this years theme, Rights and Responsibilities, for National History Day because the government of the United States of America had and still had the responsibility to protect the well being of Americans, after the attack on Pearl Harbor it became known that the safety of Americans was at risk. It could also be called into question if President Theodore Roosevelt had the right to take countless lives in this plan. The project doesnt so much put rights and responsibiliy side by side, it contrasts them, which is what I like about it. It was the reponsibility of the government to safeguard its people, but contrasting that, did they have the right, or was it right at all?
