Foundations of Interior Design Syllabus Bonnie L.

Risinger, CFCS Course Description: First Level Class in Interior Design Pathway Open to any student at PHS The Foundations of Interior Design class is designed to introduce students to the widely changing field of Interior Design. Students will explore the Elements and Principles of Design and apply them to projects done in class such as room drawings, and color theory projects. Students will also learn basic sewing skills, Archicad computer drafting, and improve math measuring skills. Careers within the Interior Design field will also be explored. FCCLA: Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America FCCLA is the student organization affiliated with this class. Mrs. Gibbons and Ms. Risinger are the sponsors. All students will learn basic information about FCCLA even though students are not required to join the organization. Opportunities for leadership, competition, community service, and field trips are available through membership in FCCLA. Membership dues are $14.00 for the year and entitle the student to all that FCCLA has to offer. More information will be forthcoming about FCCLA. Classroom Materials: The textbook for this class is Housing Decisions by Evelyn L. Lewis and Carolyn S. Turner. The textbooks will not be issued. They are used in class only. This means that all assignments are completed in class. Student Supply List: 1. 1 or 1 three ring binder (This binder is just for this class. Do not include items from other classes.) 2. 8 Dividers 3. Notebook Paper 4. Pencil or Pen (No red ink.) 5. Colored Pencils or Crayons Attendance: Attendance is essential for success in any class. It is imperative for students to make up all work from an excused absence in a timely manner. All school board policies will be followed. I will be available after school as needed to assist students who need more time to complete assignments, projects, and tests. Grading System: The following system will be used to calculate grades: 40% - Formative - Classwork 60% - Summative - Projects & Tests 100% Topics of Study: Introduction and FCCLA Career Interior Designer Chapter 7: Understanding House Plans Chapter 10: Elements of Design Chapter 11: Using Color Effectively Chapter 12: Principles of Design Chapter 16 Arranging Furniture Learn to Sew

Rules, Regulations, and Procedures: 1. Be on time for class and ready to begin working. 2. Follow all instructions. 3. Comply with all safety practices in lab situations. 4. Cooperate and work well with others. 5. Use time efficiently. Do not distract others. 6. Use self-discipline. 7. No cell phones unless instructed otherwise by the teacher. 8. Do not spray perfume, lotion, or any scented substance. (Teacher is allergic to fragrance.) 9. No make-up or other grooming during class. 10. No food during class. 11. Clean your work area at the end of class. Restroom Usage: Students will be given a sheet of hall passes each 9 weeks to allow for emergencies. Use restroom passes sparingly. Snack Machines/Lunchroom: These places should be visited before school, during break, or after school. Do not ask to go during class time. Discipline: My job is to educate students. Behavior issues will not prevent others from learning. If a student chooses not to follow the rules, regulations, and procedures, the following choices could be used to change the students behavior. 1. Warning One time only.
