For my live play review, I decided to watch The Laramie Project, which describes the town of Laramie after a young, gay man was murdered there. The play really made me think about how I see the world compared to how others view it, and how this relates to my everyday life. The performance made me reflect on my own everyday thoughts and actions, and its unique format helped with this. Each actor in the play was more than just one person, portraying multiple people. The most interesting part was that almost the entire play was composed of actual quotes, and the characters portrayed were actual, live people in this town of Laramie. The play itself was very entertaining and interesting, and I am so glad this is the play I ended up watching. The live play review really helped me sort out my feelings and put all of my thought and emotions down on paper. The review also made me sit down and think about what I had seen instead of just watching the play and taking it for face value. I was able to appreciate what each actor and stage crew members had done, and I was able to see how much hard work had been put into the production when I was paying attention to it. The process that I took for writing this piece was also different from the process that Ive taken for writing different types of assignments, such as essays and paragraphs. The paly review was more about my own opinion rather than an objective topic that I had to back up with textual evidence. Instead of finding facts in the play and using them to write a cohesive review, I had to think about what I personally liked and disliked about the play, and how this was shown throughout the play. I have never written a play review, so it was a bit strange for me to try out a new format of writing that I have never really tried before. I really did enjoy writing this piece, and it shows in the quality of the writing. This is part of the reason why it is important to include this piece of writing in my portfolio. Because the play review has a subject that is very important to me, this shows in how passionate I am about what I wrote. This passion is also shown in the quality of the writing. One of my favorite parts of this play review is the ending, where I discuss how people often perceive those around them as different from who they actually are, or as objects and not people. The Laramie Project, as well as my play review, showed how this is not a good thing, and this subject is something that I believe is very important and should be talked about more. I very much enjoyed writing my play review for The Laramie Project, and I am very proud of the review I wrote for it. Heavy subjects, such as the unfair treatment of gays that the play and my review discussed ought to be talked about more often throughout homes and schools, so it is very important that this review is included in my portfolio.
