.........(lecturer's name)...... on the ......(date of the asgnmnt given)..... This is an individual assignment. This assignment is a research on a widely spreading social problem which is child abuse. The reason I chose to write on child abuse is because it is a cronic issue which is spreading fast in our nation. It is happening everyday before our very eyes . Lack of concern and awareness towards this social problem had cost many kid's life. Almost everyday we come across heart melting news on child abuse. Cases such as children being hit, raped, murdered by their own blood are often published in the newspapers. Yet, we as the community are not doing our part to curb this problem . Statistics states that more than 10 000 kids are being brutally abused each year. To complete this assignment , I reffered to many sources for information. Inthe process of completing this assignment , i have learnt that child abuse is one of the major social problems arised among the Malaysian. This problem is hidden and des not come to light because children are not given the rights to voice out . Their cries and screams are not heard. Sometimes we come across parents scolding or beating their child in next door. We assume that it is just the normal punishment for the child. But how many of us are concern that it might turn out to be child abuse. Child abuse leaves a deep impact on a child. A child who have been abuse tend to have inferiority complex. They are afraid to come out and e a part of the world. Eventually they are forgotten and left behind. On the other hand, a child who had been abused tend to be aggresive . They turn out to be violent to protect themselves from threat. A support-group structure is needed to reinforce parenting skills and closely monitor the child's well-being. Visiting home nurse or social-worker visits are also required to observe and evaluate the progress of the child and his/her caretaking situation. The support-group structure and visiting home nurse or social-worker visits are not mutually exclusive. Many studies have demonstrated that the two measures

must be coupled together for the best possible outcome. Children's school programs regarding "good touch...bad touch" can provide children with a forum in which to roleplay and learn to avoid potentially harmful scenarios. Pediatricians can also help identify children at risk of maltreatment and intervene with the aid of a social worker or provide access to treatment that addresses potential risk factors such as maternal depression. Unintended conception increases the risk of subsequent child abuse, and large family size increases the risk of child neglect. Thus a comprehensive study for the National Academy of Sciences concluded that affordable contraceptive services should form the basis for child abuse prevention. April has been designated Child Abuse Prevention Month in the United States since 1983. U.S. President Barack Obama continued that tradition by declaring April 2009 Child Abuse Prevention Month. One way the Federal government of the United States provides funding for child-abuse prevention is through Community-Based Grants for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (CBCAP). Resources for child-protection services are sometimes limited. According to Hosin (2007), "a considerable number of traumatized abused children do not gain access to protective child-protection strategies." Briere (1992) argues that only when "lower-level violence" of

children ceases to be culturally tolerated will there be changes in the victimization and police protection of children. As the conclusion, prevent is better than cure. Child abuse leads to many bad effects not only for children that are being abuse but also the person who abuse the children. We should prevent it from getting worse as the children today will be a leader for tomorrow.
