This primary source is about a man in a prison who lacked quality healthcare. Not only does it talk about Daniel Hall's experience with lack of healthcare it also talks about others with similar situations. Print. The source states that California's healthcare for prisoners is unconstitutional. Making it better would be too expensive for the government to handle. Print. This source shows a medical check of a prison's healthcare. The official report was not released yet, but some doctor can out to speak. One commented about other then walking though the gates, he did not know they were inmates.

One is the amount of security and no accountability. Some say that companies that come in are for profit and do not do their best for inmates. Butterfeild, Fox. "U.S. Suing Louisiana on Prison Ills." New York Times 6 Nov. 1998: n. pag. Print. This source states that Louisiana is being sued by The Justice Department for not taking care of youth inmates. Louisiana is believed to have the worst prison situations for youth in the nation. Most do not have anyone to turn to either for help and suport. "Chase Says City Prisons' Healthcare Is Improving." New York Times 1971: n. pag. Print. This source is about a specific prison and how the healthcare of its prisoners is improving. Now the care is not where they want it to be, but is better then what it was. Some inmates say the improvements are just to please the public and that the care is still bad. Chen, Stephanie. This source broadens the topic even more to new areas. Healthcare in prisons is not just for sick young people, there are many older inmates now and we still have to take care of them. Also it stated different medical conditions and how they should handle those.

This article talks about how prisoners get free health-care. People can go to prison for a treatment when they are poor and not pay anything. Some even go to prison for the winter. Gardner, Amanda. The health of our inmates is much higher than the general population according to this article. You have a much higher chance at having a serious illness in the prison system. This source says that even with your prison sentence you still get more punishments, bad healthcare. Prisons would be a hard place to have good healthcare with all the security and restrictions. This source talks about a group's report into prison healthcare. It states facts about the healthcare for New York State prisoners and how it it bad. This article has a real story about someone who died in a prison. It also connects why we should care about healthcare in prisons, it can affect us as well. It talks about money and how they can provide good care but do not.

They might save on cost or maybe do not. You can not monitor them as much and that makes them bad.

As inmates grow older with their life sentence, they need better and more expensive healthcare. It will only grow worse with these inmates aging more and new older inmates coming. Lipton, Eric. The biggest reason for all the problems is the over populated prison system. You either have to wait or fall through the cracks. Preston, Jennifer. The cost is going to be lower than the state providing healthcare. The quality is going to be the same or above that of which the state had. Rohde, David. This has happened after the jails were switched over to privatized care. It stated the problem is with the company and the fact that its for profit. drugs. Most of the first human testing of drugs are done on inmates. This article wants to ban this type of testing in hope of improving healthcare. Simons, Robert. "For-Profit Healthcare Penalizes Prisoners." New York Times: n. pag. Print. This article criticizes governments that hire for-profit companies to oversee the healthcare in prisons. They do not have to meet any requirements or any expectations. They cut services to raise profits. Sterngold, James. They are being pushed to do better, but lack tools to do so. The source also says the violence between prisons and the problem it creates. US Const. amend. VIII. Print. This amendment to the Constitution of the United States says no cruel and unusual punishment shall be inflicted. This pertains to healthcare because having no medical care in prison would be cruel. This article states the bad healthcare for California inmates. There is long wait times for simple care. The population of the prisons also is a major problem for healthcare.
