This newsletter has a conservative Republican viewpoint. It may or may not reflect the views of the NSRF Board of Directors. It is intended for the thoughtful consideration of our members, to inform, educate, and as potential discussion starters.

All U.S. Senate candidates were invited to our Forum. Amy Stephens had a previous commitment and wont be able to attend.

In August, 2013, a Quinnipiac poll found that Colorado senator Mark Udall's approval rating was +13 (47 percent approved of his job performance and 34 percent disapproved). But a new Quinnipiac poll out today shows that Udall's positive approval rating has evaporated, and just as many Colorado voters approve of Udall as those who disapprove (with 44 percent in each camp). In hypothetical matchups, two different Republican contenders trail Udall by just three points. Ken Buck, a district attorney who lost the 2010 Senate race to incumbent Democrat Michael Bennet, trails Udall 45 percent to 42 percent. Businessman Jamie McMillan trails Udall 43 percent to 40 percent. http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/quinnipiac-poll-colorado-senator-mark-udall-trouble_767945.html

"With Coloradans by my side, Ill keep fighting to ensure the Affordable Care Act works for Colorado families and helps to keep our communities healthy." ~Sen Mark Udall (Facebook, 12/11/13) Despite Obama Promise, Many Coloradans Losing Their Health Insurance Plans
Four years after Democratic Party leaders promised a skeptical public that passage of Obamacare wouldnt interfere with their existing health care coverage, a very different reality is taking shape as thousands of Coloradans receive notices from their insurance providers that they will not be able to extend their current health care plans. Changes from health care reform (also called the Affordable Care Act) continue to take effect in 2014, a September 10 letter from Anthem BlueCross BlueShield to one policyholder begins. To meet the requirements of the new laws, your current plan can no l onger be continued. We would like to notify you that your current policy will be discontinued or not renewedon December 31, 2013, because Humana will no longer offer your current health plan in the State of Colorado, read a similar letter sent by that company to many of its policyholders earlier this month. The drop letters stand in stark contrast to the assurances provided by President Obama during the heig ht of the health care battle. For those who have insurance now, nothing will change under the Obama plan except that you will pay less, read a 2008 Obama campaign white paper a pledge reiterated by the President just a few months later during the push to gain public support for the controversial plan. We will keep this promise to the American people, said Obama in 2009. If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, a Colorado Democrat and Obamacare supporter, voiced similar sentiments at the time. [I]f you have coverage and you like it, you can keep it. If you have your doctor, and you like him or her, you should be able to keep them, as well, Bennet said in a 2009 floor speech. We will not take that choice away from you. Colorados other Democratic U.S. Senator Mark Udall, who faces re-election in 2014, echoed the same talking point during a 2009 interview. If you have an insurance policy you like, doctor or medical facility that provides medical services to you, youll be able to keep that doctor or that insurance policy, said Udall.

But the drop letters sent out by companies like Anthem and Humana as implementation of the presidents health care law gets underway seem to run counter to those commitments as many Coloradans are pushed out of their current insurance plans and into more expensive, Obamacare-approved plans they may not need or want. One of those Coloradans was U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner of Yuma. Last month, my wife, Jaime, and I received notice that our health care plan would be discontinued Dec. 31, Gardner wrote in a recent op-ed. To comply with the myriad new regulations, requirements and mandates of the presidents health care law, my family must find a new health care plan. Gardner noted that his monthly premium will more than double as a result of the new policies from roughly $650 a month to $1,480 per month. Choosing a health care plan is a difficult and time-consuming process, Gardner added. Those who have been happy with their current health care plans are now being forced to find new plans and must navigate the maze of new regulations in doing so. Gardner isnt alone. Thousands of notices like the one his family received have gone out in Colorado, according to a Humana spokesperson. Last month, Humana sent letters to approximately 8,800 individually-insured policy holders in Colorado whose plans are not considered grandfathered under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Humanas Western Region Spokesperson Marina Renneke told TCO in an e-mail. The letters outlined two Humana plan options for 2014 and encouraged recipients to learn more about the health care reform law. Humana is currently working with the Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI) to ensure that our communications are as clear and consumer friendly as possible. Renneke added. With the DOIs approval, we plan to send revised letters to the same group of members to further clarify their options. But recent studies suggest that those options may be more expensive. For the vast majority of Americans, premium prices will be higher in the individual exchange than what theyre currently pay ing for employer-sponsored benefits, read a recent analysis conducted by National Journal. According to a recent report in The Hill newspaper outlining the findings of a Government Accountability Office (GAO) study, young and healthy Coloradans will see a considerable spike in health care costs as a result of Obamacare. The drop letters will likely intensify an already tense political tug-of-war over funding for the controversial health care law, which remains a key sticking point in budget negotiations between President Obama and lawmakers. Anthem BlueCross BlueShield did not respond to requests for comment. http://thecoloradoobserver.com/2013/09/despite-obama-promise-many-coloradans-losing-their-health-insurance-plans/

PANTS ON FIRE: DORA Chief Lied When Exonerating Udall

Published on January 24, 2014 by ColoradoPeakPolitics

Were you lying on January 23rd or on January 14th, Barbara Kelley? Kelley serves as the head of Colorados Department ofRegulatory Agencies (DORA). On January 14th, two days after liberal Sen. Mark Udall and his staff drew fire for bullying Colorado Division of Insurance employees because the employees reported that 250,000 Coloradans had lost their health insurance due to Obamacare, Kelley assured Rep. Amy Stephens that Udall had been exonerated by a panel convened just for this purpose, as reported by The Denver Post:

A neutral and objective panel from the executive directors office interviewed a number of Division of Insurance staff, coll ected and reviewed e-mails and other correspondence between the (division) and Sen. Udalls staff, wrote Department of Regulatory Agencies director Barbara Kelley in a letter to state Rep. Amy Stephens, R-Monument. Today, The Colorado Observer reported that, in a response to a Colorado Open Records Request, Kelley is now backtracking on her claims that a neutral and objective panel drove the investigation into the behavior of Udall and his staff. Heres what she said: For clarification purposes, the Department first conducted a fact finding review, focused exclusively on DORA staff and processes, actions and perceptions during and after e-mail exchanges in early to mid-November, with Senator Udalls staff. Having found no evidence of any intimidation or coercion as a result of this fact finding review, there was no need to proceed with any further investigation. So, which is it? Did Kelley conduct this fact finding review herself? Is that why shes hiding? Either there was a panel convened and she isnt willing to provide the documentation, which is a violation of CORA. Or, there was no panel convened and she lied to Rep. Stephens (and all of Colorado). Which is it? This reminds us of another b.s. cover up from President Bill Clinton. He said in front of a grand jury, It depends on what the meaning of the word is is. Does Kelley not know the meaning of panel? Just in case, heres the definition from MerriamWebsters dictionary: (1)a group of persons selected for some service (as investig ation or arbitration) <a panel of experts> (2) : a group of persons who discuss before an audience a topic of public interest Youre welcome, Ms. Kelley.

CASCADING FAILURE: Udall Backed Obamacare Tanking Entire Health Industry

Published on January 23, 2014 by ColoradoPeakPolitics

Quick, Senator Udall, bust out some more B.S. on how you are defending Coloradans privacy because weve got some more bad news on Obamacare that you enabled. As reported by The Washington Times today, the rating agency Moodys Investor Service has changed its outlook for the entire U.S. health industry from stable to negative. They pulled no punches when they placed the blame and put it squarely at the feet of Udallbacked Obamacare. While all of these issues had been on our radar screen as we approached 2014, a new development and a key factor for the change in outlook is the unstable and evolving regulatory environment under which the sector is operating, Moodys said. Notably, new regulations and presidential announcements over the last several months with respect to the ACA have imposed operational changes well after product and pricing decisions had been finalized. [the Peak emphasis] Wow, that is impressive impressively incompetent. Not only can Udall and Obama flush an entire industry that comprises over 17% of Americas GDP down the toilet, but they can do it without even accomplishing what they set out to do. And a Gallup-Healthways survey released Thursday said that, despite the rocky rollout of the Obamacares online markets, the uninsured rate for January dropped by 1.2 percent to 16.1 percent. 1.2% drop in the uninsured sounds really good, until you realize the percentage of Americans without health insurance in 2008 before this whole Obamacare fiasco started was 15.4%. The ineptitude of Udall and this law is astounding especially when you figure that 16.1% comes after the fact that whole swath of young adults are covered under their parents insurance until 26 now. Lets recap what exactly Udall voted to happen to Coloradans: 1) Higher healthcare costs 2) Higher uninsured percentage 3) Ca use one of the largest industries nationally to be put on death watch by rating agencies. If this is how Udall keeps his promises, were afraid of what our privacy has coming to it in the near future.
