KOKOMO, Ind. The Indiana University Board of Trustees approved 11 new degree programs for the Kokomo campus, which will provide more majors and educational options for students in the region. Brand new to this campus are three degree programs, which are chemical biology, biochemistry, and health sciences. The additional eight programs, currently offered as Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), give students the option of pursing a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) as well. They include biological and physical sciences, chemistry, biology, psychology, mathematics, sociology, new media, and communication. These programs will require a final stamp of approval from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The Trustees and IU President Michael McRobbie see the full potential of the Kokomo campus and its commitment to providing relevant and meaningful programs, said Chancellor Michael Harris. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the faculty, faculty senate, and administrators at IU Kokomo who worked so hard to make this possible in a short amount of time. IU Kokomo will continue expanding its offerings in order to be relevant and respond to the needs of the region. Through academic excellence, we will contribute to the economic well-being of the region and improve quality of life. These new degrees will offer students the opportunities to work in a variety of health care related fields, including pharmaceutical companies, environmental consulting firms, and careers in medicine. The B.S. degree requires additional course work within a specific major and can help students gain admission into physical and social science graduate and professional programs.
