CBSE GUIDELINES FOR INTERNAL ASSESSMENT IN MATHEMATICS


CLASS IX AND X

INTRODUCTION
The curriculum at Secondary stage primarily aims at enhancing the capacity
of students to employ Mathematics in solving day-to-day life problems and
studying the subject as a separate discipline. The whole purpose of
introducing the concept of Mathematics laboratory and internal assessment
at secondary level is to make teaching-learning of the subject an interactive,
exciting, fun-filling and life related experience. The scheme primarily aims at
helping the student learn the basic and essential concepts and skills by
doing simple activities and projects. This is likely to promote interest for the
subject and enhance academic attainment of the students.
BREAKUP FOR 20 MARKS
The internal assessment of 20% is to be awarded on the basis of performance of a student in the activity
work, project work and continuous assessment as per the following scheme:

PROJECT WORK
Every student is also expected to undertake one project in the subject during the year. This project may
be in the form of extended learning in the subject and related to real life situations.
The students are required to maintain proper record of the activity work done during the year. The Board
may ask any school/student to produce this record work, if required.
PROJECT WORK REQUIRNMENTS
1. The list of projects (as discussed with the students from time to time) is only suggestive. The subject
teacher may guide the students for its proper selection and procedure, if need be.
2. Project work can be done by a group of students, which consists not more than 3 students. Student
may also do the project work individually.
4. Project reports may be supported by PowerPoint presentations, use of some external source if there is
any scope for it.
3. Before finalizing the group and the topic for the project, students are required to get it confirmed by
the concern teacher. This should be done on or before summer break.
4. Last date of submission of the complete project report is _______________.
5. At the completion of the evaluation of the project, it will be punched in the Mathematics Laboratory
so that the report cannot be reused but is available for reference only.

PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION OF PROJECT REPORT
1. Proper report of the project work, preferably handwritten, is also to be maintained separately.
2. The total length of the project report will be 20-25 pages. It may vary depending upon topic chosen.
3. The project report will be presented in a neatly bound simple folder.
4. The Project Report will be presented in the following sequence:
(a) Cover page showing project Title, Student information, school and Year.
(b) Objective and Description of the Project.
(c) Preface and Acknowledgement (acknowledging the institution, offices and libraries visited
and person(s) who have helped)
(d) List of Contents (Index)
(e) Main Write-up (includes calculations, results, and conclusions if any). It may be subdivided
in different chapters with suitable headings.
(f) Conclusions (Summary and suggestions or findings, future scope of study)
(g) Bibliography (name of books referred, web site visited - mention complete link)
(h) Teachers Report (Attach this Performa at the end of the Project report for teachers remark)
