Abingdons Treasures:
Chadwell Animal Hospital opened its doors in September 2003. It was a collaborative effort by Dr. Keith Gold and Ruby Schaupp (a husband and wife team). Both had worked at various animal hospitals in Baltimore County. This would be the first time they would join forces, each bringing their experiences, ideas and skills to create a veterinary hospital with a professional environment that would be efficient, always educational, compassionate and fun! The Chadwell name was derived from their first dog, who in turn, was named after a town on the island of St. Kitts. Chadwell was adopted from this island as a puppy. It was in his memory, that of a resilient, loyal and brave companion that the practice was named. The hospital is a 5500 square foot facility with 4 exam rooms, 2 surgical suites and a surgical prep room. There are separate dog, cat, and exotic wards, and an isolation room with it's own ventilation. The intensive care unit is located just off the treatment area where those patients are monitored continuously throughout the day. There is a special procedures room for radiographs, endoscopy, and ultrasound. Chadwells goal is to practice high quality medical and surgical services for all species, believing that no matter how small, all are equally important. We will always be an advocate for our patients and provide an environment of care and compassion in such a manner as one would expect for their own children. We strive to keep all lines of communication open and continue to educate clients on pet wellness & health care. Together, doctor, client, patient, staff...we will work toward what is always in the pet's best interest realizing that pet ownership is a responsibility and a privilege.

New Harford County Animal Licensing Rules to Take Effect February 18, 2014
(Dagger News Service):
The Harford County Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits (DILP) has announced that changes to the countys animal licensing procedures will take effect on February 18. These changes are the result of Harford County Council Bill 13-47, introduced at DILPs request and passed unanimously in December. The changes are intended to take advantage of the capabilities of DILPs new licensing system, which will be operational in July. One example is the implementation of rolling calendar year licensing. This will allow for renewals to be spread throughout the year, alleviating the need to process approximately 9,000 licensing renewals over a two month period. Other examples of improvements that the new system will provide are the issuance of a single tag for the life of the animal and the ability to submit an application or renewal of animal licenses online. Replacement tags will be available at a minimal cost already established by law should a tag be lost or misplaced. These provisions will be effective in July 2014. Another change is the end of multi-year licensing. The new system will allow for a more efficient interaction for county citizens seeking to obtain animal licenses. Existing multi-year licenses set to expire in 2015 and 2016 will not be affected. County citizens should also be aware that a one-time extension for current licenses that are set to expire July 1, 2014 was approved. The extension will establish a new expiration date of September 1, 2014. The one-time request allows for licenses set to expire this coming year to be fully handled and take advantage of the new system from notification to reissuance. Renewals that are traditionally sent out in May of each year will now be sent in July. For more information, please contact Rich Truitt, Deputy Director for the Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits at 410-638-3366.
