Normal Hill
Individual normal hill competition is an event in which athletes jump from a HS 105 hill (HS = hill size). The longest distance reached is around 105 meters. Athletes make two jumps, with only the athletes with the best results in the rst jump making a second jump. The highest total score wins.

2010 U.S. medalists in Vancouver

U.S. had no individual or team winners, though Bill Demong, of Park City, did win gold in nordic combined, which involves jumping off the large hill. Johnny Spillane won silver in the event. Demong is returning to defend his gold medal.

Large Hill
For the men, individual large hill competition is an event in which athletes jump from an HS 140. Therefore, the length of the jump may be up to 140 meters or a little more. The competition is structured and jumpers are scored by judges for form, not just pure distance, just like on the normal hill.

Team event
Team competition, again only for the men this year, takes place on the large hill, the HS 140. Teams consist of four people. In the nal round the eld is reduced to the eight teams with the highest scores on the rst jump. The team with the highest total score for all jumps is declared the winner.
