ASIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS EXCHANGE PROGRAM (AMSEP) JAPAN MALAYSIA 2014 __th March 2014 - __th March 2014

PROPOSAL OF ASIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS EXCHANGE PROGRAM (AMSEP) JAPAN MALAYSIA 2014 ASIAN MEDICAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION 1.0 OBJECTIVE

This proposal poses as a bid for the AMSEP committee of International Medical University to play host to the Japanese delegates under the AMSEP JAPANMALAYSIA 2014 program. This exchange program is ubiquitous in forming a sense of unity between the countries stemmed from friendships, such that pertinent medical issues and medical systems in their own respective countries can be shared. This heightened awareness of the country-specific epidemiology benefits both parties as medical knowledge will be internationalized and diversified. Apart from the academic aims, AMSEP aims to serve as an active platform for the exchange of culture unique to each country. With more understanding of their demographics and practices, rapport with the Japanese, at present and in future, can thus be created on an amicable ground. We will introduce them to the culture of Malaysia, including the food, practices and beliefs of the various races and religions. Additionally, this will also serve as an international meeting point, given that the AMSEP IMU Committee Board bears members from countries other than Malaysia. Thus, the committee members functions as the mouthpiece of their own race, religion and country. The amalgamation of all these traits into a single AMSEP committee truly points to the rich cultural diversity present in Malaysia. The execution of this program will be over the timespan of 1 week, and the planned events promises to be enriching and funfilled for the delegates, simultaneously introducing them to the culture of Malaysia so fondly known to many. 2.0 INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND

2.1 Introduction Originally founded in 1985 in Manila, Philippines, Asian Medical Students' Association (AMSA) is a student-governed organization representing the concerns of physicians-in-practice spanning across Asia and Asia-Pacific. This aims to train doctors to combine and share knowledge, undertake activities and social services and lastly, to create international and trans-continental friendship. The last point corresponds to that of our aim stated above. The AMSA in Malaysia, a non-profit and non-political organization was originally pioneered by a group of students in the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Currently, AMSA Malaysia had been

appraised for nearly 20 years of outstanding service and contributions to the local society, as well as her Asian neighbors. The vision of AMSA Malaysia is Knowledge, Action and Friendship and its mission is to expose physicians-in-training to scientific and medical activities, expanding their knowledge in this profession and benefitting the community at large. Moreover, a good rapport between medical students of different chapters in the Asia-Pacific region is also sought after. The aims of AMSA Malaysia evidently ties in with AMSEPs. AMSEP puts them into action by promoting interactions between counties. The IMU AMSEP committee is enthusiastic to carry this activity out, so that the aims can be put into action and realized. 2.2 History/ Record AMSA Malaysia had become the host for the following international conferences: Year 1983 Conference The 4th Asian Medical Students Conference (AMSC) The 8th Asian Medical Students Conference (AMSC) The 13th Asian Medical Students Conference (AMSC) The 19th Asian Medical Students Conference (AMSC) The 26th Asian Medical Students Conference (AMSC) The 22nd East Asian Medical Students Conference (EAMSC) The 23rd East Asian Medical Students Conference (EAMSC) The 34th Asian Medical Students Conference (AMSC)
