The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers swept the elimination round to clinch their
first championship since 1967. The Final Four format was supposed to be in its first year of
application but since the rules stipulated that once a team wins all of their elimination round
games, the postseason is scrapped and that team is declared the automatic champion.

After La Salle's two ineligible players were discovered after UAAP Season 68, all of their games
from Season 66-68 were forfeited. Prior to the forfeiture, La Salle returned their Season 67
championship trophy and their Season 68 runner-up trophy. The UAAP Board subsequently
awarded the trophy to FEU on 2006.

Since La Salle, Ateneo and UE finished the eliminations with identical 10-4 cards, the quotient
system was used. La Salle emerged with the best quotient among the three, so UE and Ateneo
figured for a one-game playoff for the third seed. The winner will face the second seed, while
the loser will face the first seed. The top two seeded teams possess the twice-to-beat
advantage.
Controversy surrounded the UAAP after De La Salle University-Manila (DLSU) discovered that
two members of its men's basketball team were ineligible to play in the UAAP from the 2003-
2004 up to the 2005-2006 season. The players failed Department of Education's Philippine
Educational Placement Test Certificate of Rating (PEPTCR, a replacement for a high school
diploma). The University has offered to return the 2004 championship and 2005 runner-up
trophy and file a leave of absence from the league.
In its meeting on April 21, 2006 in Adamson University, members of the UAAP Board
unanimously decided to suspend DLSU in all sports events of the UAAP for the entire 2006-2007
season as a consequence of the university's negligence and inaction against the two ineligible
players.
The board has also forfeited all of La Salle's men's basketball games from 2003 to 2004. The
board awarded the 2004 title to FEU as a result.
All of La Salle's victories in the playoffs were also forfeited; if La Salle won the 2005 title, they
would've surrendered back the trophy to the finals opponents, FEU

San Beda Advances to the Playoffs
It was the 12th senior’s basketball championship for the Red Lions since 1978 ended 28 years of
title-drought.
After allegations of identity switching circulated via text messaging, Philippine Christian
University (PCU) was investigated by the Management Committee (MANCOM) for alleged
eligibility infractions on several of its varsity teams. The MANCOM has completed its own
investigation and are waiting for PCU's internal investigation and has hinted of suspending the
Dolphins for Season 83 after PCU's representatives did not show up in the MANCOM meeting.
After the deliberation by the MANCOM, the NCAA, via a statement issued by NCAA and José
Rizal University (JRU) President Vicente Fabella, suspended the Dolphins from all events after
four players of the Baby Dolphins basketball team were found to have used falsified
documents. The Baby Dolphins were ordered to return their second-place trophy from last
season's tournament and all individual awards. The senior Dolphins' 2005-06 general
championship trophy was retained, however.
