Segn datos estadsticos el 42% de la poblacin econmicamente activa de Pelileo esta ligada directamente a esta actividad. La economa del Cantn Pelileo se basa en la produccin agrcola, en lo artesanal y sobre todo en la industria textilera. Pelileo durante muchos aos viene desarrollando esta importante actividad econmica. Su producto emblemtico es el Jean, el cual le ha dado renombre a nivel nacional e internacional, es altamente cotizado en pases vecinos como Per y Colombia y sobre todo en el mercado interno del pas, por su calidad, por lo cual nuestro Cantn es conocido como la CIUDAD AZUL El desarrollo de esta industria se debe gracias a la implementacin de la tecnologa en el proceso de confeccin.
