Edugems
Each month, I will be highlighting a few educators and the incredible ideas and resources they share. The Edugems for this first issue are:

Tyson Seburn (Canada), Maria Theologidou (Greece), Jake Duncan (US), Sarah Thomas (US), and Sylvia Guinan (Greece) Follow them here, http://list.ly/list/Ect-edugems
Tyson Seburn created the English Language Teaching (ELT) Calendar which features professional development events, physical and virtual, from around the world. Many are free and you can submit any event you know of including physical ones, like conferences and workshops. Maria Theologidous new blog, Class Objects Revisited, provides lesson ideas, activities, and games associated with an ordinary object like a pencil or eraser. I think many teachers will enjoy these ideas. Jake Duncan, this months honorary Tech Ninja, has a site with a list of helpful Google Apps and Scripts. Learning about Google Apps and Scripts this year has

saved me tons of time with grading, providing feedback to a 100+ students, sending mass communication, and creating lesson materials. I recommend learning Goobric, Formmule, Doctopus, and Flubaroo. Sarah da Teechur does free technology training sessions on Google HangOuts. I really enjoyed her recent one, Level Up! 5 Steps to Gamify Your Class. These sessions are easy to follow even if you have very little experience with technology. Sylvia Guinan is one of the moderators of The Crafting the ePerfect eTextbook online session. She has recently written two fantastic posts about visual design in developing teaching materials. She talks about the importance of visuals, color, multimedia, happiness and much more. Click to visit Thoughts on Visual Design Inspired by Global Educators and The Importance of Imagery in Materials Design.
