Eulogized by Lord SrIranganAtha: I salute that Sri Manavala Mamunigal (ramya


jAmAtaram munim), who is the recipient of the divine grace of SriSaileSa
(Thiruvaymozhip Pillai or Thirumalaiyazhvar), who is the ocean of auspicious qualities
such as knowledge(gnAnam) and devotion (bhakti) and who is deeply devoted to Swami
Ramanuja (yathIndra pravaNam).

asmath AchArya paryanthAm vandE guru paramparAm ||

Eulogized by SrI kUratthAzhvAn: I salute that acharya lineage which begins with none
other than the consort of SrI, Sriman Narayana, and bearing incomparables like SrI
Nathamuni and SrI yAmunAcharya in the middle, up until my own acharya (Sri
Ramanuja in the case of kUratthAzhvAn).

Eulogized by SrI kUratthAzhvAn: That Ramanuja who every day with great love
immersed in the service of golden hued lotus feet of Lord achyUtha and considers all the
other things as hollow, I surrender to the divine feet of such Ramanuja, who is my
acharya, who is complete in all divine and auspicious qualities, and who is the ocean of
mercy, as alone the means.

SaThakOpa (nammAzhvar) who is always adorned with vakuLa flowers (Mimusops
elengi), that cardinal preceptor of our community(of prapannas1) whom I and those who
follows me think as the mother, father, wife, children, treasure and everything.

one’s sins get vanquished without any remainder and whose lotus feet meditation alone is
the sole cause of any objectivity in me.

The hymns to be recited before studying SrImad bhagavadgeeta according to guru
parampara and tradition.

1 vyAsaM vaSiShTha naptAraM! SaktE:


pautramakalmaShaM! paraSarAtmajaM vaMdE! SukatAtaM
tapOnidhim!!

I prostrate before vyAsamaharShi who is the great grandson of vaSiShTa, grandson of


Sakti, son of ParaSara, and has undergone great penances.

2. samya~gnyAya kalApEna! mahatA bhAratEna cha!


upabRuMhita vEdAya! namO vyAsAya viShNavE!

I prostrate before vyAsamaharshi who is the composer of brahma sutras and


SrImahAbhAratam, and who is none other than the incarnation of Lord viShNu.

3. sArathyamarjuna syAjau! kurvan gItAmRutaM dadau!


lOkatrayOpakArAya! tasmai kRuShNAtmanE nam:!!

I prostrate before that charioteer of arjuna who delivered the nectar called bhagavad geeta
to protect all the sentient beings.

4. prapanna pArijAtAya! vEtratOtraika pANayE!


~g~jAnasamudrAya kRuShNAya! gItAmRuta duhE nama:!!

I prostrate before that kRuShNa who is the protector of all those who take exclusive
refuge in Him, and the One holding a horse whip in one hand and keeps another hand in
the posture of knowledge churning the nectar of geeta.
5. karakamala nidarSitAtma mudra:

parikalitOnnatabarhibarha chUDa:!

itarakara gRuhIta vEtra tatrO!

mama hRudi sannidhi mAtanOtu Sauri:!!

May Lord KrishNa stay dear in my heart, who poses the symbol of knowledge in one
hand, and holding a hairy horse whip on the other, and adorned with most wonderful
peacock feather.

6.agrE kRutvA kamapi charaNaM jAnu naikEna tiShThan!

paSchA tpArthaM praNaya sajuShA chakShuShA


vIkShamANa:!

savyE tOtrM karasarasijE, dakshiNE ~g~jAnamudrA!

mAbhibhrANO rathamadhi vasan pAtu sa ssUtavESha:!

May Lord SrI krishNa protect me, who is looking compassionately at the surrendered
arjuna with an index finger pointed towards him, who sat in a posture advancing one leg
forward, and another leg folded in front of Him.

7. kRuShNaM kamala patrAkShaM! puNya SravaNa


kIrtanaM! vAsudEvaM jagaddyOniM! naumi nArAyaNaM
harim!!

I worship that son of vasudEva who is none other than Lord nArAyaNa, who removes the
sins of all who take exclusive refuge of Him, who is three fold reason for the existance of
the universe, who makes the lives of men singing and hearing to His glories
transcendental, and the One who is Lotus Eyed.

8. kRuShNAya yAdavEndrAya! ~g~jnAnamudrAya yOginE


nAthAya rukmiNIsAya!! namO vEdAMta vEdinE!!

I offer my obeisance to Lord SrI krishNa who is the cause of glory to the dynasty of
yadu, who is holding the posture of knowledge symbol, a great yOgi, the enjoyer of all
sentients and insentients, one who is absorbed in the thought of rukmiNi dEvi, and the
quintessence(actual Lord) to be known from vEdanta.

Prayers to geeta
1. geetASAstramidaM puNyaM! ya: paThEt prayata:pumAn
viShNO: padamavApnOti! bhayaSOkAdi varjita:!!

One who meditates on this transcendental geeta will overcome the sufferings of fear and
sorrow, and will get to the Lord with a form similar to the Lord.

2. geetAdhyayana SIlasya! prANAyAma parasya ca


naivasantihi pApAni! pUrva janma kRutAni cha!!

One who persists with the practice of meditating on geeta, and sincerely practises the
breathing practice called prANAyAma will get rid of the results of all his sins from all his
previous births.

3. malanirmOchanaM puMsAM! jalasnAnaM dinEdinE


sakRudgItAmbhasi snAnaM ! saMsAra mala mOcanam!!
The bath one takes every day can remove only the dirt of the outer body, but a bath in the
realisation of geeta's message will remove the dirt called repeated birth and death cycle.

4. gItA sugItA kartavyA! kimanyaiSSAstra saMgrahai:! yA


svayaM padmanAbhasy! mukha padmA dvinissRutA:!!

For one who attentively sings geeta which is none other than the revelation from the lips
of Lord padmanAbha(the One from whose navel a lotus emerges), understanding the
essence of all other scriptures is no task.

5. bhAratAmRuta sarvasvaM! viShNOrvaktrAdvinissRutam!


gItAgajgOdakaM pItvA! punarjanma vidyatE!!

There is no rebirth in this material world for one who hears carefully and practices the
bhagavadgeeta according to its message, which is revealed directly by Lord SrI KrishNa
Himself and which is like the nectar of essense of the epic ‘mahAbhArata’.

6. sarvOpaniShadO gAva:! gOgdhA gOpAla naMdana:!


pArthO vatsa ssudhIrbhOktA! dugdhaM gItAmRutaM
mahat!!

Just like a cowherd milks a cow keeping a calf infront of the cow, Lord KrishNa, who is
cowherd by nature, milked all the upanishads which are like a cow, keeping arjuna as a
calf, and gave the world the milk called bhagavadgeeta which is pure, enjoyable and
capable of increasing goodness in the careful practitioner.

7. EkaM SAstraM dEvakIputra gItaM!


EkO dEvO dEvakIputra Eva!

EkOmantrastasya nAmAniyAni!

karmApyEkaM tasya dEvasya sEvA!!

The song sung by Lord Krishna alone is the scripture. SrI krishNa alone is the Lord. The
names of SrI krishNa alone are mantrams. And serving Lord KrishNa alone is any
credible action.
