INTRODUCTION
%emperature is the most-measured process +aria$ e in industria automation. Most common ,- a temperature sensor is used to con+ert temperature +a ue to an e ectrica +a ue. %emperature .ensors are the "e, to read temperatures correct , and to contro temperature in industria s app ications.
' arge distinction can $e made $et/een temperature sensor t,pes. .ensors differ a ot in properties such as contact-/a,- temperature range- ca i$rating method and sensing e ement. %he temperature sensors contain a sensing e ement enc osed in housings of p astic or meta . &ith the he p of conditioning circuits- the sensor /i ref ect the change of en+ironmenta temperature.
0n the temperature functiona modu e /e de+e oped- /e use the LM34 series of temperature sensors. %he LM34 series are precision integrated-circuit temperature sensors- /hose output +o tage is inear , proportiona to the Fahrenheit temperature. %he LM34 thus has an ad+antage o+er inear temperature sensors ca i$rated in degrees 1e +in- as the user is not re*uired to su$tract a arge constant +o tage from its output to o$tain con+enient Fahrenheit sca ing. %he LM34 does not re*uire an, e2terna ca i$ration or trimming to pro+ide t,pica accuracies of 31.24F at room temperature and 311.24F o+er a fu -50 to 53004F temperature range. %he LM34 is rated to operate o+er a -504 to 53004F temperature range.

0t is eas, to inc ude the LM34 series in a temperature measuring app ication. %he output +o tage of LM34 is inear , proportiona to the Fahrenheit temperature- it has a Linear 510.0 m6/4F sca e factor /hich means that ,ou /i get n:10.0 m6 output +o tage if the en+ironment temperature is n4F. %he LM34 series is a+ai a$ e pac"aged in hermetic %8-4; transistor pac"ages- /hi e the LM34C- LM34C' and LM34# are a so a+ai a$ e in the p astic %8-92 transistor pac"age. %he LM34# is a so a+ai a$ e in an <- ead surface mount sma out ine pac"age. 0n our functiona modu e- LM34= in meta can pac"age >%8-4;? is used in the functiona modu e- it is +er, important to "no/ that the /iring of sensor shou d $e $ased on the positions of the eading pins in different pac"ages.

A, rep acing the LM34 /ith another precision integrated-circuit temperature sensor LM35- /e can easi , get an output +o tage proportiona to the centigrade temperature. %he LM35 sensor has a inear 510.0 m6/4C sca e factor and a temperature range from

-554C to 51504C.0n fact LM34 and LM35 are among the same series of temperature sensors so that the, can $e easi , e2changed in different app ications. %he /iring for LM 35 is the same as that of LM34. ! ease refer to the datasheets of LM34 and LM35 for more detai ed pac"aging and features information. 3. WIRING INSTRUCTIONS
&iring of the LM34 temperature functiona modu e consists of /iring of functiona modu e $o2 and /iring of the sensor pro$e. %he sensor is mounted on the pro$e head and the pro$e is connected to the modu e $o2. For LM34 in meta can pac"age >%8-4;?- the sma ta$ on the sensor indicates the position of C56sD eading pin >p ease refer to Figure 2 and datasheet of LM34?.
