SAN FRANCISCO – August 10, 2009 – Scribd, the world’s largest social publishing
company, today announced the launch of redesigned, more interactive pages on
Scribd.com. The move is part of the company's longer term strategy to turn publishing
and reading into a social experience on the web and mobile devices. Changes include the
addition of a "scribble" box, publishing feed, a one-click publishing button and an ability
to "subscribe" to any user and their public activities in real time. Deeper integration with
Twitter and Facebook is also in the works.
"The next major evolution of the 'print' medium will be social, with readers participating
in the never-ending life of the document, the book, the presentation," said Trip Adler,
CEO and co-founder of Scribd. "To kick-start this evolution, we’ve launched new social
publishing pages on Scribd that make it super easy for people to instantly share what
they’re reading and publishing with their subscribers on Scribd."
Scribd users include millions of everyday people who share their business presentations,
short stories, original music compositions, family recipes and more. Professional
publishers on Scribd include journalists and bestselling authors; major media brands like
The New York Times and Chicago Tribune; politicians and public organizations like
Senator Mark Warner, The World Bank and the World Economic Forum; and publishing
companies like Simon & Schuster and O'Reilly Media.
