Sleep Deprivation and Academic Performance of Nursing Students of St. Jude College Manila 1.

What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of: 1.1 Age 1.2 Gender 1.3 Educational Program 1.4 Year Level 2. What are the academic performances of the 3rd year nursing students? 3. How does the sleep deprivation and academic performance of 3rd year nursing students of St. Jude College Manila relate to each other? Significance of the Study The output of the study may help the students realize to explore the relationship between the sleep deprivation and academic performance of nursing students of St. Jude College Manila. The output of the study can enhance the awareness of the students that having a good enough sleep is important for cognitive restitution and also to academic performances of the students. It influences information processing, learning and memory consolidation. This study may also enhance the awareness of individual quality of life can be disrupted due to many different reasons, one of the important causes for that is sleep loss. The phenomenon of sleep deprivation is common among students most especially when their examination is fast approaching. Sleep deprived persons feel tired, irritable and confused even though they are able to do well motivated tasks with their usual strength and skill. People who work with their minds need just as much sleep as manual workers To remain healthy, one must go to bed at regular hours because the good which sleep does depends upon keeping up a regular rhythm of sleep and wakefulness. Strenuous work or activities needs more of sleep and also the amount of sleep needed to replenish and promote good health of individuals vary with individuals, age and environment. Hence deprivation of sleep influence the development of cognition, language, attention and neurological functioning remains poorly understood. Sleep deprivation affects cognitive and motor processes as well as emotional stability. In other words, Sleep deprivation impacts many aspects of cognitive and behavioral functioning in adults. Sleep time reduction showed that even small changes of sleep length could lead to cognitive and non-cognitive deficits for the student. The output of the study can contribute in addressing the institution general approach regarding the Sleep deprivation its impact on the academic performances of the nursing students. Furthermore, it can be a basis for them to modify their approaches depending on the needs that may arise as a result of this study. Researchability This problem is researchable because to the following reasons: Related literature and studies of the study can be found The variables can be measured by assessing the respondents by the use of standardized survey questionnaires about the relationship of sleep deprivation and academic performance of the students. A supplemental questionnaire based on related literature and studies will be provided in case a standardized questionnaire in unavailable questionnaires.

Feasibility This research is feasible because of the following reasons: The researchers estimated time for data collection is approximately two weeks. The researchers will conduct the data collection among students enrolled in health- related in Programs at St. Jude College Manila. Facilities, Equipments and Cost: Printing Cost --------- P800 Binding Cost---------- P500 No right of respondents will be violated in the conduct of the study The researchers are interested in this topic to able to see the academic performances of the students enrolled in health-related programs Respondents The respondents of the study are the nursing students of St. Jude College, Manila Year 20142015.
