The article presents a survey of the history of orthodoxy in the trans-ural
region and the history of the diocese of kurgan (created in 1993). It discusses
in detail the contemporary religious situation in the diocese of kurgan, particularly the statistical information of the diocese as of 2013.

for a synodiK dictionary]
In this study the author makes an attempt to find answers to some unresolved
questions of the history of the russian orthodox church in the ural-Siberian
region in 1621, the year when the Siberian and tobolsk diocese headed by
archbishop cyprian was founded. First of all these questions deal with the
history of St. Nicholas monastery in Verkhoturie. The author reconstructs the
biographies of the two monks, abbot avraamy and builder Varlaam, who both
played an important role in the monastery life at that time.

The article is devoted to the creation and development of the higher ecclesiastical
school in russia in the XIX early XX century. more specifically it deals
with the history of The idea of the academy as the basis of this school. The
topic is relevant due to the russian ecclesiastical and educational reforms in
the recent years. having studied materials of the pre-revolutionary reforms of
theological academies in russia, the projects, analytical reports and discussions,
the author shows the influence of Western scientific and educational models,
on the russian universities experience and theological schools experience and
implementation of the idea of academy at different stages.

The article deals with the competence approach to modern professional
education and the possibility of its implementation in theological schools
through development and improvement of students research competence.
one of the possibilities to introduce this approach into the learning process
is students research work. The author characterizes students research knowledge and skills and gives the main objectives and principles of educational
and research work. The article states that students research work provides
opportunities for student self-expression, which, in its turn, develops students
creativity and independence, and their ability to assess the information flow,
to choose and to process the information they need.

translation and PrEliMinary obsErvations
This article presents a russian translation of the ancient greek text of a sermon on the Feast of Encaenia at Jerusalem (Oratio de sancto sepulcro habita
Hierosolymis), which is a part of the corpus of the so-called greek Ephrem.
The translation is preceded by a discussion of the possible place where the sermon was delivered and its dating and authorship, special attention being paid
at the S. heids hypothesis that attributes the sermon to St. Ephrem the Syrian.
