Returning Residents
Once current residents have indicated formally, around late October of the previous year, that they wish to return to College, the Principal reviews each residents application against the following readmission criteria: satisfactory academic progress; contribution to College life; observance of College regulations; and payment of all due accounts. To accept a College offer for readmission the following are required to be returned by the due date indicated on the Offer Letter: the Contract duly completed and signed, the completed Student Record, a payment for $500 to secure the Contract. Contract Dates 2010

The standard postgraduate contract is 45 weeks in 2010 from 31 January 2010 until 11 December 2010. The 52 week post graduate contract runs from 31 January 2010 to 31 January 2011. Contract dates are not normally open to variation. Exceptions can be made in special circumstances by appointment with the Principal. No variations of contr act will be permitted where a residents fees are not in accordance with their contract. By agreement with the Principal some new residents may need to arrive early to commence ANU courses or undertake international orientation programs. Please email the Principals Assistant on pa@burgmann.anu.edu.au with any request of this nature. Please do not arrive unexpectedly before contracts commence

Contracts with the College - Not for a Particular Room

The Contract between a resident and the College is for accommodation, not for a particular room or room type. The College will do its best to meet residents preferences, but this is not always possible. In addition, long-term maintenance schedules may mean that the College has to close off sections of the buildings during vacations and temporary relocation may be necessary for residents in affected areas.

Resignation or Shortening a Contract

Postgraduate and honours residents are liable for the fees for the full contracted period of their contracts. Where they wish to resign from their contracts, they must apply in writing to the Principal giving at least four weeks notice. An Application to Resign from College form is available from the Principals Assistant . The Principal may accept such an application for a cause which the Principal views as exceptional and where the contract can effectively be taken up by a new resident. A $90 turnaround fee is charged for residents vacating their room before the cont ract end date. NB Where a resignation is not accepted the Contract remains in force and the resident is liable for the fees for the full contracted period. Where a resignation is accepted, the resident loses their Deposit and other Initial fees and must pay the room fees until another student is found for the room in question.

Readmission for 2010

Honours students must apply for readmission, by convention, during late October on forms supplied by the College, even though some may have a contract extending into the following year. In such cases the readmission application confirms the earlier intention.

Donation to Burgmann College Bursary and Scholarships Fund (optional)

The College now makes many awards annually to deserving residents through its bursaries and scholarships. The Fund has been built up over many years from donations from parents, former residents and friends of the College, together with substantial assistance from the ANU. The College tries to ensure that no resident is denied the benefits of life at Burgmann because of financial need. It therefore warmly encourages donations from parents and others to the Bursaries and Scholarships Fund, and a letter to this effect is enclosed with the Contract documents. Donations are tax deductible.

Academic and Course Enrolment Information and Academic Progress

The College prizes its academic reputation and seeks to assist residents to achieve their highest possible academic goals. Academic prizes are awarded each year at the Commencement Dinner in March, and more importantly, academic support and leadership by residents is recognised at Valete in October. Residence in the College depends inter alia on satisfactory academic progress. It is a condition of membership of the College that the Principal and Sub Dean have access to residents course enrolment information as well as examination results in order to monitor academic progress and make academic and admissions decisions. Residents are required to advise the Principal promptly of any changes to academic course or institution and upon the completion, termination or suspension of their academic course. Residents whose continuing academic progress falters, need to ensure a continued full time enrolment in order to reside at Burgmann.

Parking
The College has acquired 58 spaces on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park adjacent to the College. These paid spaces are secure, designated locations within the facility. The College can therefore guarantee parking for this number of residents. Complete the section in the Contract if you are interested and we will put your name on our waiting list. (The College charges a $10 administration fee per annum for one of these spaces.). In addition to the parking structure, there is parking around the College in several parking bays, together with restricted street parking on Daley Road. Parking structure costs vary depending on whether you are undercover or top floor, and whether it is for the calendar or academic year. For 2009 costs refer to: (http://transport.anu.edu.au/Driving/Parking/Students.hml)
