GLOBAL WARMING

What is Global Warming? Generally, global warming is the current rise in the average temperature of Earth's oceans and atmosphere. Global warming is when the earth heats up (the temperature rises). It happens when greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane) trap heat and light from the sun in the earth s atmosphere, which increases the temperature.

How It Operates?

Temperature Changes

Evidence for warming of the climate system includes observed increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea level.

External Forcings

External forcing refers to processes external to the climate system that influence climate. !limate responds to several types of external forcing, such as radiative forcing due to changes in atmospheric composition, changes in solar luminosity, volcanic eruptions, and variations in Earth's orbit around the "un.

Greenhouse gases

#aturally occurring greenhouse gases have a mean warming effect of about $$ %! (&' %().)he ma*or greenhouse gases are water vapor, which causes about $+,-. percent of the greenhouse effect/ carbon dioxide (!01), which causes ',1+ percent/ methane (!23), which causes 3,' percent/ and o4one (0$), which causes $,- percent.

Particulates and soot

5tmospheric soot directly absorb solar radiation, which heats the atmosphere and cools the surface. In isolated areas with high soot production, such as rural India, as much as &.6 of surface warming due to greenhouse gases.

Attributed and Expected Effects

Global warming may be detected in natural, ecological or social systems as a change having statistical significance.

7ost of the increase in global average temperature since the mid81.th century is, with high probability, attributable to human8induced changes in greenhouse gas concentrations.

7ost ecosystems will be affected by higher atmospheric !01 levels, combined with higher global temperatures. )hus, it will result in the extinction of many species and reduced diversity of ecosystems.

9ulnerability of human societies to climate change mainly lies in the effects of extreme weather events rather than gradual climate change. Impacts of climate change so far include adverse effects on small islands, adverse effects on indigenous populations in high8latitude areas, and small but discernable effects on human health.
