PIQUA A tour of the Upper Valley Career Center had only just begun as Terry Krogman, instru tional super!isor, led the "ay from # ott $aill%s &VAC' (&earting)!entilation)air onditioning)refrigeration te hnologies* lassroom ba + into a series of hall"ays, A little misgi!ing from the outside, the Upper Valley Career Center on -ooney 'oad an be a disorienting on e inside, at least to a ne" omer gi!en one "ants to rubber.ne + along the journey and for good reason, There%s a lot going on in the multiple lassroom (/!en outdoors* in luding an Aerospa e 0 upations Program that "as the re ipient of a donated 1233 Chero+ee airplane, 4They a tually fle" it in,5 e6plained Krogman, the donation re7uiring a little bit of maintenan e and at the right spot for the job, As he tou hed base on ho" the Aerospa e program initially started after the 8AC0 &istori al #o iety "rote for grant funds from the Paul 9, :u+e ;oundation, The latter besto"ing a generous <=>,>>> to start the program and 'i hard ?orgerding, a ertified ;AA Airframe and Po"erplant (A@P* te hni ian brought on board as the instru tor, ?orgerding omes "ith a "ealth of e6perien e, in luding repair training after ser!ing in the U,#, $a!y, Airfor e, and $ational 9uard, And though Krogman%s ba +ground is in automoti!e he%d his o"n "ealth of information in luding the tena ious do umenting and logging of e!erything related to plane engine repair to assure proper fun tioning, 8or+ that must be o!erseen by an A@P ertified te hni ian su h as ?orgerding thus emphasiAing the in.depth and thoroughness of the pro ess and program, $ot to mention a bright future for the Chero+ee airplane, ?oth instru tor and students "ere at the #idney Airport during the time of the tour, "or+ing on the donated Chero+ee, "ith parts of the engine in the UVCC lassroom, the latter also home to a flight simulator, among other high.te h items, As students in the program also "or+ on remote. ontrol airplanes, simulators for other flying ma hinery su h as heli opters, and mu h more, The Aerospa e program lassroom "as also housing the 8orld 8ar II B>>.!olt generator re ently donated to the enter, an item that had been used by the $a!y for ommuni ation de!i es, 8hile predominately made up of male students, Krogman "as 7ui + to point out that t"o "omen are urrently attending the Aerospa e Program at the Upper Valley Career Center, 48e en ourage that in any "ay, shape, or form that "e an,5 said Krogman of UVCC guiding more "omen into #T/C (# ien e, te hnology, engineering and mathemati s* related programs,

and that many employers are loo+ing for non.traditional hires, as "ell, 40ne of these things "e tell them (female students* is that a lot of times they are the first to be hired,5 In fa t, a ording to the U,#, :epartment of -abor, there "ill be 1,D million job openings in #T/C related fields by D>1=, but not enough 7ualified graduates to fill them, Ceaning, the Upper Valley Career Center is the pla e to be for anyone interested in su h a field that "ill ha!e a host of potentials in terms of employment for many years to ome, Stay tuned '
