How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks

For my ancillary task I created both a magazine cover and also a poster to promote sales of my film The Fall I wanted these to grab the audiences attention and intrigue the viewer as to what my film is about. I wanted these forms of advertising to attract the target audience, ideally they would be seen in magazines and locations of my target audience to entice a larger audience and to promote sales. For my magazine cover I used an online magazine cover creating website. I created an original magazine named Hollywood Times, although my film is entirely British I want it to also be a hit in the states. The idea of the magazine Hollywood times was to create a magazine looking at the film industry globally, this would not only look at films in the media by directors, actors, celebrities and news etc. For the image I wanted to photograph a mid-shot of my main character Martha portraying both her character before and after her accident and showing both sides of this character that is seen in my film. For this I wanted a classy wardrobe, I put her in a clean white shirt which shows her social status yet gave her edgy dark eyemakup to show that there is more to this character and then photographed her holding dead birds. This shows her middle-class status yet gives an edgy and harder look. I wanted her to have a serious facial expression and body language to hint at her rebellious character without giving spoilers to the film. When it came to the editing of the cover I wanted to use colour to make the cover eye-catching and stand out. I then used catchy phrases to entice the reader. I wanted the magazine cover to suggest the film genre, I did this by using a simple photograph of the character against a plain background as I did not want the image to be too busy and misleading. I wanted this magazine cover to support my film by putting it in a positive light and promoting not only the film but also the actor as I wanted Marthas character to be largely relatable to bring the film to life. I then created a poster promoting my film. In this I felt one of the most important aspects of my poster must be the visibility of the name of my product. I took a simple yet effective image of the character Martha wearing riding clothes and with a horse. I gave her a darker outfit in this compared to my magazine cover as I wanted it to have a darker atmosphere and overall feel to the poster, making it more intriguing and appealing to the viewer. The point of my poster is to sell my film so I ensured to include ratings such as the five star rating and also a quote from The Times. I used lighting, facial expression and body language to express Marthas mental fall. The character looking up portrays hope and her lit- face shows her seeing the light. With posters the image is of high importance so I wanted to make this the main focal point by using little text. This poster shows the importance of the horse to the character and the name The Fall implies an accident or suggests that something bad is going to happen, I this this, next to my chosen image for the poster, will intrigue the viewer and attract my target audience, promoting sales for my media product.
