AST 201 Term Project Submission Instructions

All students will be submitting their assignments on Portal. To hand in your project, make sure you have all of the following ready before you begin the submission process. 1. Your actual term project file (poster, podcast, or video). 2. Your bibliography of sources you cited, including sources of information as well as sources of images, video, sound effects, etc. This should be in a standard bibliographic format. You can find out more about bibliographic formats here: http://www.writing.utoronto.ca/advice/using-sources/documentation Once youre ready to submit, log onto Portal. Follow these steps: 1. Re-read the Term Project Description posted on Portal under Course Documents. Make sure you completely understand all the rules governing the project. 2. In the course menu on the left side of every page, click the Submit Term Project link. You will be taken to the project submission interface, which looks like this:

3. Click View Rubric to see the criteria which will be used to grade your project. Make sure that what youre submitting conforms to those criteria.

4. Your next step will depend on the type of project you are doing. a. Poster: i. Put your poster into PDF format. If you made your poster by hand, this can be done by taking a picture of your poster with a camera and converting the picture into a PDF. ii. Click the Browse My Computer button below the text editor. iii. Find and attach the PDF file of your poster from your computer. It should be a PDF file SMALLER THAN 2 MB. If you are having trouble reducing the size of your PDF file, see a site like this one for information:! http://www.wikihow.com/Reduce-PDF-File-Size b. Podcast. You have two options here: i. Upload your own audio file. Your file MUST be in MP3 format and must not be larger than 2 MB in size. Upload it using the same instructions as for the poster option. ii. Upload your audio file to an audio sharing site, such as Soundcloud. Post the LINK (URL) to your file in the Submission window. If the URL is not automatically recognized and made clickable (i.e. if it doesnt turn blue), then highlight your link, click the globe icon ( ), and paste the link into the URL window. Make sure to include the http:// Be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the content you have shared online is viewable to the public. If your TAs are unable to access your file online, you will receive a grade of zero for the project. c. Video. i. Because video files are to large to be uploaded to Portal, you will need to upload your video file to a different site. You can use a third-party site, such as YouTube or Vimeo, but whatever site you chose must be a STREAMING video site. TAs will not download videos. You can also use UofTs own MyMedia site, hosted through the library. This allows you to retain total creative control of your video, without having to accept the legal terms of use of YouTube or Vimeo. Separate instructions will be posted explain how to use MyMedia. ii. On Portal, post the LINK (URL) to your video in the Submission window. If the URL is not automatically recognized and made clickable (i.e. if it doesnt turn blue), then highlight your link, click the globe icon ( ), and paste the link into the URL window. Make sure to include the http:// Be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the content you

have shared online is viewable to the public. If your TAs are unable to access your file online, you will receive a grade of zero for the project. 5. All students should paste their bibliographies into the Submission window. If you have included a URL to your project, please make sure that your bibliography is posted BELOW this link. Dont make the TAs huntyoure your all-important project link! Make sure that your bibliography is formatted in a readable manner in this window. If it is garbled, you will not receive credit for it. 6. You can ignore the Comments window on the Portal assignment interface. 7. If youre not sure that youre done, click Save As Draft. You can come back and edit your submission later. 8. If and only if you are completely happy with your submission, click Submit.
