Friday, April 23, 2010 Rodney Watson, University of Southern IndianaEagle Coaching and PVC Chute Drills 3 Rules to Live by at USI Basketball o Illegal activity is not acceptableit carries a heavy penalty o Class attendance is non-negotiable o Enjoy playing basketball Bullet Theory o Each coach on staff is awarded four plastic bullets at the start of the fall semester. We are allowed to have a tantrum at our discretion (practice, game, locker room, team meal, scouting report, class check, etc.) At the end of the day following the tantrum the individual coach must surrender a bullet After four bullets are surrenderedNO MORE TANTRUMScoaching only! o Coach starts the drill at the top of the keythis is the only passer that can throw a lob o Play to three points 2 on 2 Down Screens o Defense has to jump to the ball 2 on 2 in the Post o 3 on 3 o Turnover consequence is down and back o Missed block outs are down and back 4 on 4 Help and Recover o When player on the wing gets beat the helper cuts off the penetration outside the lane o Weak wing has to help the helper and split the weak side offensive players 4 on 4 on 4 o Play with three teams in the half-court o Non scores you have to take the ball back to the center circle o Turnover means you are automatically out 3 on 2 Pass/Power o 3 offensive players against 2 defense Bubas Drill o 4 on 4 catch-up o Use the whistle to make the offensive team get back on defense Tricia Cullop, University of ToledoTransition Game 3 Man Break 3 on 2, 2 on 1 Cyclone Drill Post Double Drill o Three defensive players and three offensive players are required o Three offensive players are wings and post o Three defensive players are guarding wings and post o Coach/manager throws pass to post side wingopposite wing defender goes to double o Wing enters the ball to the postpost skips to opposite wing o Doubling defender has to sprint back out to cover o Post player follows pass and weak side wing defender has to double once the ball goes back into the post Penetration Series o Coach/manager always hits the player that initiates the dribble drive o Drive and kick for to player in the corner for a wing shotget pass from coach in the corner for corner jumper o Penetratehit crackback and then the passer goes through to the opposite corner for a shot o Penetrate and kick baselinepasser comes back on the same side for a wing shot o One more pass (same as above with extra player getting the shot)passer still comes back on the same side for a wing shot Dana Altman, Creighton UniversityWheel Offensive Movements Players still have to learn to make readsjust as in Read/React Coaches can utilize mis-matches and scoring opportunities that the defense presentsgiving the coaches a lot of control Offense works effectively against a zone as well o Players just hold cuts in the gaps for longer periods of time o More screening of chasers (up defenders)

Steve Alford, New Mexico UniversityIndividual Workout Drills Players are made in May, June, July, August, and September Three main keys to work on in individual workoutsball handling; pivoting; shooting W Dribbling o Working on going from cone to cone as fast as you can with two balls Three Line Cone Drill o Players start with a ball at half-court and complete the task instructed by the coach o Players do not stop until they have went through all three lines Three Line Chair Drill o Players pass to coach who sets the ball down on a chair o Players pick up the ball and have to pivot/rip o Players can come from half-court (forward pivot) or baseline (reverse pivot) Championship Shooting o Four chairstwo on the blocks and two on the elbows o Player curls on outside for first jumper o Each jumper after that forces the player to go down through the X o Player will shoot where the coach instructs him to do soflair for three, curl at the elbow, rip through for jumper off one dribble, etc. o Players may have to make a certain amount in a row or 2/4whatever the coach wants Tight Cuts 21 o Player starts at half-court and must shoot a lay-up; two-point jumper; and three-point jumper o Player cannot stop until he gets to 21 points o Some high-level players are able to do this three times before they are done with their workouts 3:00 3s o Keep records for thistop guard/top forward/top big o Players cannot shoot a three from the same spot two times in a row o Rebounder continues to rebound and pass to the shooter for the entire three-minutes Saturday, April 24, 2010 Jerry Hoover, Logansport High SchoolTurning a Loser into a Winner D-1 Team Camps; Rick Mount Shooting Camps; Five-Star Camps Dont exclude groups or people from your team o Is there anyone that you are excluding?
