Overview

It was March 2014, a beautiful day considering the harsh winter that Toronto experienced this year. Srivatsan, the president and Chethan, the vice president of BTMA were going through the performance of the club so far and were impressed by the hard work and dedication that the entire executive team had put in to turn around the club this year. But the job was only half done. Recollecting the interest that the club generated this year, Srivatsan knew that it would be a daunting task to select the incoming executive panel for next year and maintain the momentum going. His attention turned towards his team and after a brief discussion, key selection criteria evolved. Everyone left the room confident of criteria being focal point to select the incoming executive and the club to be passed on to good hands for next year.

About BTMA
The Graduate BTMA is the focal point for networking, recruitment and learning for members of the Schulich community that are interested in technology management. The Graduate BTMA provides a platform for graduate students and alumni to collaborate, network, and represent Schulichs technology community to the industry. The Graduate BTMA also strives to provide the student community with opportunities to apply and expand their skill set in the area of information technology in the context of a business environment. Vinod Gupta, the pioneer of BTMA, propelled it to heights in the first year of its launch. 2012 was the year to forget for BTMA due to lack of events and membership. Under the leadership of Srivatsan, the executive team of 2013 worked in unison and as a collaborative unit to conduct events that drove the popularity of the club and rise to being one of the few clubs that Schulich that caught the attention of Graduate Business Council for its superior performance. The member list had swollen and constantly growing. The alumni involvement was at its best.

Incoming Executives
A perfect blend of diversity, intelligence, experience and team bonding was core to selecting the new team members. Interest in technology and how once can translate that to efficient contribution to BTMA was the key differentiating factor. It is of prime importance to identify what improvements can be made in existing operations and a rational idea that would achieve great heights for the club in the coming year. Revenues are an important source for functioning and hence the club sought creativeness in enhancing revenues and means to sustain in long term. Participation is key to an event and more the participation, be it in the panel or event participants, more is the popularity of the club. Methodoly and meticulous planning of events is key to make it success, and it is a skill that is most desired by many. Above all, it is important to drive a sense of team, in terms of leadership and also as an active contributor to the success of the event.
