If students fail to learn appropriate digital behaviors related to copyright laws, how will this impact society? Objective(s) Participants will understand that: The use of technology requires digital citizenship and responsibility which requires the teacher to know and understand the safe, legal and ethical practices related to digital information. As educators, we must model legal and ethical behavior and proper digital etiquette to our students. Knowledge of digital tools, resources and teaching strategies are necessary to teach students 21st century skills. Also include a search of Facebook. This allows participants to consider how accessible digital information is related to them personally. Give quiz on the copyright laws (http://www.csus.edu/indiv/p/peachj/edte230/copyright/quiz.htm) Review and discuss the results of the quiz. Discussion question: In your experience as a student (K-12 and Higher Education) and a teacher, how consistent are the faculty and school administrators in following these guidelines (do not include names only anonymous examples)? Post-Workshop Assignment Find an instructional video from YouTube which uses multimedia (graphics, photographs, images, music, video, etc.). Critique how well the creator of the video followed copyright laws. Your critique should include (1) which copyright laws were followed; (2) which copyright laws were broken (3) if laws were broken explain how the creator could correct the video to follow copyright laws. Provide the link to the video.
