Personnel: Sgt. Ferrell remains off with an injury. He sees is doctor on Thursday and we are expecting to get him back to work in a lightduty capacity next week. Staff continues to work on employee evaluations, year-end reports and other related human resources functions which are customary this time of year. Detectives: On Wednesday detectives initiated a traffic stop that resulted in a search of the vehicle. Raja, the department K-9, located 2.7 grams of methamphetamine. One adult female and one adult male were arrested. The suspects provided additional information to detectives for a probable cause search warrant to a room at the Back Bear Casino. Detectives assisted the Sheriffs Department with the warrant and officers located additional 19 grams of methamphetamine in the room with three more suspects being arrested on related charges. Patrol: Officers were busy with snow related calls for service. It seems that the local residents are very cranky over the placement of snow this time of year. Several neighborhood disturbances were mediated by officers. In addition, several vehicles were ticketed and towed as a result of the recent snow event. Last Friday Officer Adam Reed responded to 507 22nd Street for a report of an assault. The

incident started over a neighbor whipping donuts in the complaints yard, nearly striking the porch. When the neighbor confronted him the driver excited his vehicle and then ran towards the neighbor. A few words were exchanged and the driver then grabbed the neighbor, threw him down, and proceeded to kick and punch him several times. The victim went for treatment at the Cloquet Hospital. The driver was arrested for 5th degree assault and other related charges including driving after revocation, reckless driving and no insurance.

Community Policing: Project Child Safe Press Release

The Cloquet Police Department will provide 300 gun locks and free firearm safety kits through a partnership with Project Child Safe, the nationwide firearms safety education program. The safety kits, which include a gun lock, will be distributed at the Cloquet Police Department and local gun shows during the course of the next year. Project Child Safe, a program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, has distributed more than 36 million firearm safety kits throughout the country since 2003. The program is supported by the firearms industry. The Cloquet Police Department encourages Cloquet residents to pick up a project child safe safety kit so they can securely store their firearm. According to Cpl. Mark Laine, "Each kit contains a safety curriculum and a

cable style gun lock. The locks fit most types of handguns, rifles and shotguns. The goal is to prevent a child or any other unauthorized person from accessing a firearm in your home. By partnering with Project Child Safe, the Cloquet Police Department is collaborating in a national effort to promote firearm safety education to all gun owners. Project Child Safe has distributed gunlock safety kits to all 50 states and 5 US territories. "We are pleased to have the Cloquet Police Department as a Project Child Safe partner," said Bill Brassard Jr., the Director of Project Child Safe. Project Child Safe is an important step forward in helping ensure that all firearm owners fully understand their responsibilities with respect to safe handling and storage of firearms." In addition to handing out safety kits, Cpl. Laine plans to present two unique presentations, first McGruff the Crime Dog on gun safety for grades K-6 at our local grade schools and "It's Your Call: Playing It Safe Around Guns" for grades 7-9 at the Cloquet middle school.
