Objectives:! By the end of this lesson, students will understand the parts of speech and how they are dened. ! They will be able to identify and give examples of the parts of speech.! Students will work together to promote teamwork and collaboration.! Lesson & Procedures:! Intro: This lesson is aimed for an eighth or ninth grade class studying english and the parts of speech. I would introduce this lesson with an informative PowerPoint (the one shown on my class page). The students would visually see this information on the projector from my computer and hear the music in the background from the speakers. Each part of speech would be dened and examples would be given for the students to understand these terms.!

After introducing the PowerPoint I would demonstrate the activity that the students would be
doing after. Here, I would perform a section of my rap: ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Adjectives, describing words! Choice of speech now by the nerds. ! Say its silly, whack, absurd, ! Those are your describing words! You learn your parts of speech (x4)!

! !

Once the students saw my performance I would turn the spotlight on them. I would divide
them up into groups and assign each group a term from the parts of speech. They would then have to create an original rap or a few verses on their understanding of the term. !

Each group would get a turn to come up to the computer and pick a beat or instrumental

version of a song for their rap. They would be exploring different websites like YouTube. They would also type up their verses on Microsoft word so I could save them and put them online for future references. !

! ! !

Reecting:! I could tell if my students learned the material by the words they used to describe the terms in their raps.!

Once each group had performed, I could also ask my students to give me examples of each
of the parts of speech.!

I could also assess them individually and give them homework (like it is listed in the PP) and
have them create their own sentences and underline and identify a part of speech in the sentences.
