A thorough, regular inspection of the machine is necessary to maintain machine performance, availability, and safety. Perform a walk-around inspection in conjunction with the maintenance procedures that are scheduled for every 10 service hours or daily. Note: Initiate corrective action for fluid leaks, damaged parts, excessively worn parts, loose fasteners, missing parts, accumulated trash, dirt, grease, or oil. Refer to the Article Walk-Around Inspectionin this manual. Refer to the Maintenance Interval Schedule in this manual for all maintenance recommendations. Note: Before you operate the machine on severe slopes, refer to the footnote in the Article Refill Capacities in this manual.
Mount the machine and dismount the machine only at locations that have steps and/or handholds. Before you mount the machine, clean the steps and the handholds. Inspect the steps and handholds for damage. Make any necessary repairs.

Face the machine whenever you mount the machine and whenever you dismount the machine. Use three-point contact whenever you mount the machine. Use three-point contact whenever you dismount the machine. Three-point contact can be two feet and one hand, or it can be one foot and two hands. Utilize steps, handholds, and other machine parts to establish three-point contact.

Prestart Checks
SMCS Code: 7000 Before the start of each operational shift, or every 10 hours of operation, perform the checks and tests. The checks and tests are in the Maintenance Interval Schedule.

Note: When you change operators at the beginning of each shift, adjust the seat. The operator should be seated against the seat backrest. Adjust the seat so that the operator is allowed full travel of the pedals. Inspect the seat belt and the belt mounting hardware. If the seat belt or the mounting hardware are damaged or worn, install a new seat belt or mounting hardware. Keep the mounting bolts tight. Fasten the seat belt before you start the engine.
Test the Backup Alarm. Test the Brakes. Inspect the Cab Filter (Fresh Air). Clean the Cab Filter (Fresh Air). Replace the Cab Filter (Fresh Air). Check the Cooling System Level. Check the Engine Oil Level. Drain the water from the separator at the fuel filter. Test the Horn. Check the Hydraulic System Oil Level. Check the Indicators and Gauges. Check the Pivot Shaft Oil Level. Inspect the Seat Belt. Check the Transmission Oil Level. Perform the Walk Around Inspection.
